Yeah. It's pretty much stuff we already knew was happening, which is always a shame. We need more surprises.

I see surprises coming tomorrow.

Wait until VALVe comes out and says: Surprise. Half-Life 3. It's already in the retail stores but not on Steam.

Well, the thing is, apart from Star Wars 1313, all of today's were multiplatform. Microsoft's only really big thing, apart from exclusive/early DLC, was Halo. And Sony's was their Smash Bros. clone. Nintendo, on the other hand, has at least 3 Wii U game reveals tomorrow, not to mention whatever they have in store for the 3DS.

Also, before anyone dares say anything about it: IT IS AN INDUSTRY CONFERENCE. THERE ARE NO "WINNERS" or "LOSERS". THE POINT IS TO DRUM UP PUBLICITY.

Ribs, that's enough of that.

Just like there are no winners or losers in business? Surely a winner is the company that generates the most interest/publicity in its products, as that will transform into sales. I get the whole industry angle you are going for, but I fail to see how that should really matter for the fans.

Anyway, looking forward to the Nintendo conference this evening (5pm UK time, I think). I'm interested in what they're actually planning to do with the wii U platform. They have a lot resting in their conference, with investor confidence at a low, and Microsoft seemingly allowing the 360 to do the same stuff with their smart glass thing. I doubt their will be much their game wise to entertain me, what with smash bros being pretty much no further along than it was last year, and I doubt a new 3DS zelda game is going to be far along either. Maybe I can hope for a 3DS okami game ( or okamiden remake. That game is beyond words.)

Metroid would be nice I guess, but I hope it's a 2D style platformer in the 3DS. I have no plans to buy a wii U, and I think the 3D and the 3DS form factor is better suited to that style Metroid game. Hand cramp sucks.

The Smart Glass thing is really a very inelegant solution to Wii U. "Oh hey you can hook your tablet up to Xbox and use it to do stuff in game" the game that you control with an independent controller. This means dropping your controller mid-game to look at a minimap or read a journal entry on a totally seperate device. I can't imagine many people saying this is the future of gaming.

The stuff they did with TV however, like the map on Game of Thrones showing you where the action was currently taking place was cool, and that was sorta the whole theme of Microsofts conference. No games, but you can shout at your Xbox and watch hockey on it, which is 10,000 times less convenient than just watching TV.

Yeah, it's not the greatest E3 so far. Beyond looks interesting and there is probably going to be some reveal on the Colonial Marines game on Thursday, but other than that, I'm not really invested into much.
• edited June 2012
well for me, I got this
• More Assassins Creed 3 footage(I went from hating the series, to wanting more within a day)
• A pretty good Vita bundle(Assassins Creed, White Vita, and a memory card). Anyone know the pricing for that?
• Rayman Legends
• That one indie boom blox kinect game
• heck all the XBLA indie games looked cool
• Beyond
• Last of Us

And that was just 4 members of the big 5. Is it not today when the other devs can actually show off their games?
• edited June 2012
I think South Park: The Stick of Truth made this E3 the best E3 ever.

I know, but isn't there something about a years worth of PSN + for free? Or did I misunderstand something.

AC3 has me actually MORE worried about the game than before. If it crosses the line into the patriotic American theme, there will be countries full of people who wont give a shit about it. It's one thing to paint nazis as your villains, it's another to pick the british. It's walking a fine line, like I said. Integrating the assassins story into historical events is perfectly fine, I'm not bashing American history here, but it's very easy for it to get lost.

Oh. Dang it!

Not to mention Connor is said to not be fighting this war, but the assassin templar war. So far I'm seeing more British dieing by Connor's hands than Templars. Heck, what happened to you fighting US soldiers as well?

Anyone know where I can get a live feed where I can pause it and resume it at the same point later?
• edited June 2012
Well, he WAS pushing them out of the way, that's fair right?

I'm not on the hate bandwagon quite yet though. There is probably story regarding what was seen in the trailer and gameplay beyond what we see, ...I just hope it's more than what it looks like.

Well they would pick the best bits to show off, right? Like the boats. That looked EPIC.

AssCreed3 looks amazing to me and my only concern is that the 360 version (the console I have the rest of the series on) will probably end up the lesser one, probably split onto multiple discs. But otherwise, bring it on.

Try this one. Their Sony one worked grand pausing for me, but it was only for 30 seconds absolute tops.

I'll also try to keep up with the Twitter feed from the Kotaku-ites. Link if you want to follow, just hit the '.' key when there's a new tweet to refresh the page.

- Something Pikmin related is happening, apparently. Just a fancy intro, apparently.
IT'S A NEW PIKMIN. Nintendo just won E3. It's on the WiiU and uses the GamePad for an overhead map. You'll need a Wii MotionPlus, Nunchuck AND the WiiU Gamepad for this one.

- The WiiU will be getting Amazon Video, YouTube, Netflix and Hulu, and it'll support TWO of the gamepads, not just the one as previously thought. Also, the MiiVerse is exclusive to the WiiU at first, but eventually you'll be able to access it through the 3DS, PC and other web-enabled devices (like phones and tablets, I'm guessing).

- New Super Mario Bros. U. Dammit, we're gonna get loads of games ending with U, aren't we? Same characters as the Wii one, including the two generic toadstools. Interestingly, a fifth player can do stuff like add blocks in useful places.

- Batman: Arkham City: Armoured Edition. I've heard clunkier names. Sounds like a launch title. You can use the Gamepad to do scans and control Batarangs using the motion sensing thing. Both Batman & Catwoman can have (exclusive to WiiU) armour, which activates when you fill a meter by beating up dudes.

- Scribblenauts Unlimited (pretty sure it'd be somewhat limited though). HD version of classic gameplay, although we actually learn something about the main character now. Has multiplayer.

- Big list of WiiU games coming: Darksiders 2, Mass Effect 3 (confirmed as a launch title), Tank! Tank! Tank!, Tekken Tag Tournament 2, Trine 2, Ninja Gaiden 3, Aliens: Colonial Marines

- New Wii Fit game. Guess the name. Basically more of the same, only including the Gamepad to let you continue playing without the TV and stuff.

- Sing. It's a karaoke game. Joy. Lyrics displayed on Gamepad, but you sing into a standalone mic.

- 3DS stuff! New Super Mario Bros. 2 first, and there's an obsession with Gold Coins that turns Mario gold when you collect enough. OK... Out August 19th, the day after my birthday, wink wink.

- Paper Mario 3DS is now called Paper Mario: Sticker Star, and presumably has an emphasis on stickers. They're literally your battle commands, and can be found in the world - you have to pull them down to get them.

- Luigi's Ghost Mansion apparently has spiders. And co-op, from what I can tell.

Twitter feed seems to have tied down somewhat. Eek.

- Lego City Underground. It's a WiiU game that features some nifty platforming as you go undercover in a Lego City to find criminals. The video ended with the character building... a Warp Pipe. Probably my favourite thing of the show.

- Just Dance 4. It exists. What more do you need.

- ZombiU. Still a stupid name. Uses the Gamepad for stuff like scanning and hacking. Also, they turned Reggie into a zombie. I heart them for this.

- NintendoLand! It's the Wii Sports of the WiiU. Apparently. It's a little confusing. Apparently it's like a theme park, and all the attractions are minigames of sorts. A few were shown - one for Zelda (Battle Quest) that's an on-rails shooter and way more awesome then I'm making that sound, one based on a Japanese show that involves pointing the Gamepad at the screen and sort-of flicking the screen to launch shurikens, and another is Donkey Kong themed and has you tilting to Gamepad to move a Mine Cart down some girders (aha, I see what they did there).

...and it's over. I'll add some links to news articles that go into a bit more depth about some of the things mentioned here.

Marsden, it's Armored Edition, not Hardened Edition.

also, I was impressed by the actual usefulness the controller showed in Batman: Arkham Asylum and ZombiU.

Huh. Wonder where I got THAT from then.

We got a nice little Link talking about all of the games shown at the conference(key highlights I saw, is BAC:AE, has all GOTY content as well as the WiiU content, and also a Pikmin 3 trailer). Also, on an interview with Spike TV. Reggie said ALL games shown at E3 are either launch titles for the WiiU or in its launch window.

That's right, Pikmin isn't too far off the WiiU's release date:D

Oh and there's an Animal Crossing minigame in NintendoLand. Here's a video.

Batman: Arkham City Armored Edition looks good. Of course, so does Mario, but those are always fun, especially when they go with the classic format. Can't say much about Pikmin since I never played the first two.

But Bioware, seriously? Mass Effect 3? WTF. You can't import your Shepard into this version, so you're already screwed in Galactic Readiness, so unless you really, really, REALLY love multiplayer, you're not getting a "good" ending. Pass.

Somewhat disappointed that they didn't show Zelda 3DS...unless it's going to be shown tomorrow? But I doubt it. Why make us wait?

There's an Animal Crossing minigame in NintendoLand. Does that count?

Speaking of, here's a closer look at the Zelda minigame.

You realize for people who only own Wii, this may be their first introduction to the game right?

One potential problem with the Gamepad.

Also, E3 Games I'll pick up (at some point):

Assassin's Creed 3
Assassin's Creed: Liberation
Lego City Undercover
LocusCycle
South Park: The Stick of Truth
Star Wars: 1313
Tomb Raider: Reboot

And yes, I know some of those weren't technically E3 games, but whatever.

And I'm sure they'll be really happy when they find out that they get a choice between only two endings and likely devastate Earth anyways. If it were all three games, that'd be different. But it's just 3. A lot of things that you have a choice about, you won't in this version.

• Professor Layton vs. Phoenix Wright not mentioned at all Correct so far

fix'd

Tanks! Tanks! Tanks! (best name EVER)
The actual name is "Tank! Tank! Tank!"(singular). You're naming the game after a crummy Kotaku headline pun.
