Your Movie Collection

edited January 2013 in General Chat
There is another thread on this forum about showing off our video game collections, and I thought we could also show off our movie collections.

At any rate, I have recently finished ripping all of my DVD movies to .m4v (they're mine, and I don't share them, so it's Fair Use to back them up.)

Icons is my fave more! I hated ISO though.

    lol. :D

That is just the folder where the actual files are. I have a different folder with shortcuts that looks nicer (though doesn't show movies from within other folders like that one does).

The ISOs folder is where I rip DVDs to (with DVDfab), and the icons folder has DVD covers in it. I use Handbrake to encode the movies to files.

Good idea (and you seem to have a good taste in movies as well :)). Here are the ones I own on DVD: http://mekestekst.eu/stuff/films/

I have no intention of listing all the movies I own. There's far too many.

I will happily share an image of the RiffTrax'd movies I have though!

    RiffTraxdMovies-1.png

Huh. THAT'S where all that hard-drive space went.

...and yes, I've donated to make up for the fact that I've downloaded these. Hush.

(Also, the misspellings are intentional to make sure Windows places the films in order. Very annoying. For those wondering, Star Wars Episode IV½ is the Holiday Special, which is every bit as bad as you've heard and then some)

Yeah, not happening. I own over or about 500 movies on DVDs(I haven't counted in years). I don't think I'm at 1000 DVDs yet, especially since I haven't been buying many in the past year. Ballpark? 600-700. I emphasize DVDs, I hate people who brag about having hard drives full of downloaded movies and music. Yeah, good for you. I also own over 1000 CDs. That insanity has all but stopped though. I have more than enough music.

Here's the bulk of my DVDs(including some TV). I have another old VHS cabinet full of DVDs plus a couple shelves of blu-rays in my room. I couldn't back up further, oh well.

People who have tons of downloaded music (ie. a hundred gig or more) use file sharing to get them, so that really doesn't count. Seriously, I have a lot of music and several audiobooks but they come out to 16.2GB. Having hundreds of gigs of music means you either compose (like MusicallyInspired), which is cool, or else you're a pirate, which is not.

I have recently discovered that buying movies via such as Amazon Instant Video is a bad idea because they are loaded with DRM, which is not cool. I rip and encode my own movies, and from DVD, so I have director commentaries included in secondary audio tracks on most of my files.

I know. Hey, if I sat down and ripped all my CDs, I'd probably have 100Gb or more... but that's not going to happen. I don't have that kind of time.

Interestingly, I find Chyron's and Darth's displays MORE personal. As impressive as Johro's collection is, I can hardly identify a single movie.

Ahhhh well... one of these days, I might make actual photographs of my collection. Hopefully in a way that allows individual movie recognition... and I'll have to translate some of the German titles also. ;)

They're mostly horror movies I think. That's fair, It looks like only Batman and Lord of the Rings are easy spots. Maybe I'll do a collage of closer photos tonight or tomorrow.

Heh, I'm quite aware. The photo is from months ago, I just didn't want to take another one. It has been rectified, I assure you.

I have 396 movies in DVD and Bluray, plus a few TV shows seasons. So it's impossible to take a photo.

I have only this list with my Blurays (titles are in spanish, sorry!):
    http://www.mubis.es/comunidad/nomecopies/listas/coleccion
It's a very mixed collection. And yeah, I love Pixar movies and Disney Classics :D

Okay, are you ready to get more intimate with me? There was a demand, so here we go.

First, I actually went and counted and I think... I think... I have 596 movies on DVD. 481 of them are pictured here(plus however many TV DVDs). Second of all, some of these were gifts from family members who don't really know me, so there is some out of place shit going on but they're fairly easy to spot. I know you can't read them all, but oh well, I just did this quick with my cell.

I spot The Life Aquatic Criterion, Batman TAS, Futurama, the good seasons of The Simpsons, Re-Animator, Critters, the People Under The Stairs, Phantasm, Police Academy, Robocop, and many other great movies. You have good taste.

Press the "Print Screen" button on your keyboard, which copies a screenshot of your current screen to the clipboard (pressing "Alt+Print Screen" copies only the current window.) Open an image editor such as MSPaint, Paste the copied screenshot, save the image, and upload it to imgur.com.

EDIT: oh, and try to make sure that images you post are only 800 pixels wide or less. If your image is too wide, it will push the right side of your post off the viewable window and force people to scroll horizontally to see all of it. It's simple enough to resize an image in Paint, after all.

Do you have Frenzy as well? That may be Hitchcock's best film. Out of the ones I've seen, anyway (Psycho, Frenzy, Marnie, The Man Who Knew Too Much [the one with Doris Day singing], and Dial M for Murder).

I personally have a very, very small DVD collection. Most everything my parents own.

Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl
Pirates of the Caribbean 2: Dead Man's Chest
Pirates of the Caribbean 3: On Stranger Tides
    The Mummy
    The Mummy Returns
    Sweeney Todd
    Dr. Horrible's Sing-a-long Blog
The Haunted Mansion Story (this is a documentary, not the lame movie)
    Imagineering the Magic
    The Ice Storm
    Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon
    Doctor Who, Season 2
    Doctor Who, Season 3
    Doctor Who, Season 4
Doctor Who, Key to Time storyline
You Bet Your Life (best episodes)

Yeah, it's kinda a weird collection, I'll admit. It's mainly stuff that people gave me or that my parents hadn't already bought. Or, in the case of the Ang Lee movies, something Berkeley sent out to all incoming freshmen.

I also used to have Season 3 of Black Adder, but I think I must have lost it during one of my many recent moves. Makes me extremely sad.

The one that’s a real bitch to find is Strangers on a Train. I haven’t seen it, so I don’t know if it’s any good or not. All I really know is who wrote it, Raymond Chandler and some other guy.

If you're talking about a Blu-Ray player, you can get a decent one for about sixty bucks. The only catch is that it would be an optical drive, so you'd have to do some extra finnageling to get it to run on your TV. I just got one, because all the new releases with the special features seem to be on Blu-Ray.

    Alternatively, just get a PS3! :p

I'll actually list the Blu-Rays I own, because that's a much shorter / more manageable list.

    Dead Space: Downfall
Dead Space: Aftermath (I like the series, OK?)
Professor Layton and the Eternal Diva
Smallville: The Final Series (OK, that's my Dads)
    The Blues Brothers
    Tron
    Tron Legacy
You Don't Mess With the Zohan

I personally found Frenzy to be the most perverted of Hitchcock’s movies. I always knew he wanted to do a sex scene in one of his movies, but this was a little too far.
  • edited August 2012
It was indeed very disturbing. But what was more disturbing? The actual sexual violence, or the fact that we, as an audience, almost liked the main character who perpetrated those terrible acts? Actually, this article explains it better than I can. In that respect, you could regard Frenzy as one big criticism against rape culture.

Paid 100€ for mine, and it still is a piece of shit. 250$ seems to be the absolute minimum for a decent player (a PS3, unfortunately).
