The only internet reviewer I really enjoy watching anymore is Jontron. I disagree with a bunch of his opinions (especially from his earlier videos), but he's entertaining enough to actually watch.

I said it before, and I’ll say it again:

    Duck Tits, whoo-hoo-oo!

I enjoy watching his videos, but I vastly prefer other reviewers on the site - Bad Movie Beat down, Shameful Sequels (supporting my fellow Brits!), The Nostalgia Chick and, until recently, The Spoony Experiment.

Doug seems to be doing the same shtick over and over again, and it's getting old. He also seems to be running out of decent material to cover, leading to some very questionable review subjects (Temple of Doom? Really?). I don't object to his crossovers, except when he's doing one with someone I don't like - JesuOtaku, I'm looking at you.

But yeah, that's my two cents.

And Afterburner is from his review of Surburban Commando, which also introduced us to 'I Was Frozen Today!'

I like Spoony even more after what he did and I hope he continues to act that way.
  • edited August 2012
I've never been a fan of any of his site. Once in a while I enjoy something.
  • edited August 2012
That was a classic line. ''I was frozen today!!'' Also i forgot about Douchy mcnitpick.
  • edited August 2012
I agree that Doug's earlier stuff seems to be better. Somehow it feels more genuine.

Also, I hated that crossover with Diamanda Hagan. Firstly, I have no interest in Heavy Metal and that review did nothing to spark any interest (ie. the subject matter was boring). Second, Diamanda's schtick was disturbing and, quite frankly, irritating.

So, yes. If Doug does any crossovers, he should do them more infrequently and only with people who are actually good at it.

List of people who can do good crossovers with the Nostalgia Critic:

    Angry Joe
    AVGN
    CR
    Blockbuster Buster
    Cinema Snob
    Nostalgia Chick
    Linkara
    Todd In the Shadows
    JesuOtaku
    Spoony
    MikeJ from Shameful Sequels
Film Brain from Bad Movie Beatdown.

Edit:I have fixed the names thanks to Darth Marsden for telling me the right names.

I haven't been paying attention to the site since the "It" review. That review really pissed me off. Completely. The drinking game and, well the choice of movie. That is not a bad movie no matter how much you want it to be.
Around that time Phelous did all the Mortal Combats I was gone for good.
I still have Spoony, Cinema Snob, LordKat & Nash bookmarked. On their own sites. And only check occasionally to see if there is a new Todd video. I don't care about the rest of the bunch. Never did.

So I noticed there was an incident with Spoony but I didn't get what it was. Can someone summarise it?
  • edited August 2012
There are 2 other reviews of Steven King miniseries and they are a lot better.

Spoony made an EXTREMELY bad rape joke about another contributor to the site. Like, a creepily specific rape joke.

Other contributors from the site and his twitter followers call him on it, all hell breaks loose. The guy does NOT react well to being called out, and goes about being the most offensive, bridge-burning psychopath he can be. He insults everyone, everything, in a very angry fashion for hours on end, constantly, for a few days. His tweets read like curse-filled ravings of a madman.

So he was dropped from the site.

Best way I've heard it described :D :D

AVGN and NC vs. Irate Gamer. Tired of being declared the weakest game reviewer on the internet, the IR goes on a rampage!
  • edited August 2012
The Irate gamer is a shtick based off an unintended shtick. Honestly these days, when AVGN does long, historical game reviews, I like them better than his ranting. He can be pretty informative. But then the comments are flooded with stuff like "why didn't you say buffalo penis more often!?"

If you're curious, he joked about
chaining JesuOtaku up in his basement and raping her.
    It wasn't pleasant at all.

I love the Nostalgia Critic as much as the AVGN, but unlike the AVGN I disagree with NC on some movies. For instance, he ripped Lost in Space and Twister apart, and I love those movies. And he obviously did no research on Twister because the movie is partially based on an outbreak of tornadoes in Oklahoma. Some years, they do hit like that. I also enjoyed Space Jam(as a kid) but I will admit it didn't age well. Also enjoyed Mortal Kombat. Liked Casper, the Super Mario Super Show, both Short Circuits, TMNT, Flubber, Quest for Camelot(shut up), Hook, Independence Day, the Flintstones, The Lost World(I'd rather he tear JP3 a new one, it deserves it), Little Nemo, and(I know I'm gonna get it for this one) Godzilla. But, even though I LIKED those movies, I still love those videos.

Oh, and as for Temple of Doom? IT SUCKED, DEAL WITH IT. If I were Indiana Jones, I would've left Willie at the damn village so I wouldn't have to listen to her anymore.
  • edited August 2012
Well I liked a lot of those movies too, but some of them were still terrible films.
  • edited August 2012
    He likes Spider-Man 3 ;) Don't worry i'm only joking and it's fine he likes Spider-man 3. I like Spider-man 3.
  • edited August 2012
Never said that some of them aren't bad films. I listed Independence Day, after all. Every now and then, I torture myself with crap. Examples, every now and then I get it into my head to watch the Super Mario Bros. movie. Or Eragon. I feel terrible afterwards, mind you, but I do watch them. At least I'm not so far gone as to watch DragonBall Evolution. Willingly.

If I were Indie I'd have left her and the kid in the plane at the beginning.

The Nostalgia Critic remembers it so you don't have to! ;)

It's all subjective anyway. Just because he doesn't like a film doesn't automatically mean that it sucks. His review of the live-action Grinch movie lampshaded that particular fact.
  • edited August 2012
I think the Moulin Rouge review was my favourite.

I'm biased because I'm a Brentalfloss fan, but I genuinely found it pretty darn hilarious! XD

Or "The Cell" or "It"... the list is endless.

Well, there are technical observations to be made when critiquing. Cinematography, pace, acting quality, etc.

Who renamed the thread That guy with the glasses thread??
  • edited August 2012
To be fair, I guess we have been discussing the whole site... but then it should be "The Channel Awesome Thread" as there are other sites within CA besides his.
  • edited August 2012
Yeah...i should have made 3 threads aka the reviewer thread trilogy...Part 1/Thread 1-Nostalgia Critic. Part 2/Thread 2:Tgwtg thread and part 3/thread 3- The AVGN thread...Don't worry there will not be any prequels to these threads;)

I love Jontron! His videos always make me laugh my ass off! And Egoraptor is awesome (pun intended).

Yeah, speaking of which, coming home and watching an episode of game grumps everyday is a weirdly nice way to wind down from work everyday. Not entirely sure why, but it's nice.
