Why all the hate? I thought it was really funny.

Some of us didn't. With something this low brow, it gets a bit hard to just say no it's bad and you're wrong. It doesn't work that way, but I'll tell you what I didn't like.

I'm not a fan of direct parodies that just take plot elements and toss them together and go ho ho ho that's funny. Demo Reel is the equivalent of a Epic Movie or Meet the Spartans that Doug Walker himself would look down on.

Hey, let's spoof Ghostbusters and throw in ghosts from a bunch of movies we all know. That would be funny. Hey, let's spoof that hit Batman flick. With no comedic thought put into it whatsoever.

This is the basest, lowest, least clever attempt at comedy I could have imagined would come from Walker and I just...can't....laugh at that.

Oh, and the people around Walker aren't likable. Then again, that's not exactly a new thing.

I didn't watch much of it because I don't have time, but it looked like it was spoofing those horrible types of movies. So... it was like a spoof of a spoof.

I didn't find it particularly funny, but then again, I just skipped through it to see what it was like later on, so I may have messed up all the timing.

I don't think it was as good as The Nostalgia Critic but i did find some parts funny like at the end when Doug
keeps saying to the writer that it's still his ending but then the writer finds out Doug came in and changed it completely.
. Being fair here it was the first episode.

It's like the first NC episode where he reviewed the Transformers 2007 movie and was hyper about it like Chester A Bum usually is. But i think i don't think NC should have ended. I think all it needed was a break and Doug to come up with some new ideas for the show.

I mean i think Doug may be trying to be doing a little too much at the one time because at the start of Demo Reel's first episode he came up saying that Demo Reel episodes will be out every two weeks he said that they are working on more shows like i remember one of them he said was a game show. No offence but i think all NC needed was a break and maybe come up with new ideas to start making it more original.

The last time Doug tried something "different" with the Critic character, the result was the "Bart's Nightmare" video.

Besides, the Scooby-Doo Review was a perfectly good finale for the show. Why ruin that?

Hey did any one ever want to watch NC review Matilda?!? Well he still has not reviewed it but we got the next best thing which is the Nostalgia Chick reviewing it! :).....With a cameo from NC where we will see how people stopped him from reviewing it!
    http://thatguywiththeglasses.com/videolinks/team-nchick/nostalgia-chick/36832-matilda

Okay, that was good. Thoroughly enjoyed that review, especially the Mara Wilson cameo. And I loved that "Fine, I won't review Matilda! How about I do a Let's Play of Bart's Nightmare instead?" Whoops! :p

EDIT: Oh and Demo Reel...kinda hard to judge just now. Seems kinda weird. But it did teach me how to do a great Bane impression!

I like Sibling Rivalry, still unsure about Demo Reel, and yay for DisneyCember.

However, I do hope that the thing with Rob Paulson was scripted.

Guess who's back. Go ahead, guess.
  • edited January 2013
Does that mean NC reviews are back?
  • edited January 2013
Ugh. Better than Demo Reel, I guess.
  • edited January 2013
    YAY this is awesome news!
  • edited January 2013
What I've seen of Demo Reel is...okay. Much prefer Sibling Rivalry.
  • edited January 2013
February 2nd. Mark it on your calenders.

I didn't really enjoy Demo Reel. I saw what they were trying for, but it just didn't gel together for me.

Sibling Rivalry is great though. Hope that continues.

Okay, just watched the whole video. I'm gonna be honest. I've been expecting this. I personally felt that all Doug really needed was time to make the Critic fresh again. Demo Reel was okay, but it was lacking. It was an experiment and one that I don't think ended up panning out for everyone. That and I figured seeing a really god-awful movie would probably reignite the spark of creativity.

That being said...there NEEDS to be another Mara Wilson cameo in the future since the Critic's back from the dead.
  • edited January 2013
Yes!!! More old vs news!!! More Top 11s Also when Donnie looks around and it says come back!!! Am i the only one who thought it was Douchy instead of the dinosaur guy?
  • edited January 2013
Ryan, maybe you should rewatch the video, it does kinda explain it. Vaguely. Sort-of.
  • edited January 2013
I always thought he just needed a break, it sounds like he turned his passion into work and it just became too much. As long as he's doing this because he wants to then good for him! :3

Yeah sorry, i actually posted the comment before watching all the video.....I was so excited about NC returning :/
  • edited January 2013
Also he is not restricted to just 1990's-2000 movies anymore so we can see reviews of other movies like Scooby Doo 2, and others.

Now come on let's be fair here. NC is in my opinion better than Demo Reel. It had a good idea but i was really disapointed with the Wreck it Ralph episode :/. Second he's taken an break and is coming back with a fresh mind. There's a reason he said that episodes are going to take 2 weeks to make so Doug can make fresher jokes.

On a side note was Doug serious in the video when NC said that Doug didn't want to end NC but Doug had a burnout?
  • edited January 2013
It would explain a great deal. And I think removing the restrictions on "era" for a movie is REALLY going to help.

I am being fair, the entire site is a walking disaster and a plague in the net.
  • edited January 2013
I'll be honest and I'll come out to the hate. I kind of enjoy Phelan and Allison's stuff, but I don't watch them on Doug's site. There, I said it.
  • edited January 2013
I can respect your opinions even if I disagree with them.

Well, that lasted all of four months.

Why? The net has lots of reviewers for various different things.
What makes Channel Awesome so especially terrible?

I decided to reconsider my statement and went to TGWG and chose a random thing I'd never seen before. I chose "Awesome Video Games".

What I was confronted by was the same thing I see on the entire site. Unfunny, uninformative, unentertaining.
I then picked the latest episode of Ask That Guy. Same thing.

It doesn't help that the sheer amount of options, on the site, is overwhelming. And each one I pick that seems mildly interesting is just another 'random person acting in a way they think might be funny' shtick. Maybe I'd hate it less if there wasn't such a sheer amount of awful.

Oh, and he insulted King of the Hill. So screw him.

I personally loved Demo Reel, but it felt like it was already done with the story anyway, so I'm not sad to see it go.
  • edited January 2013
Brad Jones and Spoony are both still great and likable at least, but I go to their websites for their junk. Not TGWTG.
  • edited January 2013
The layout definitely needs work. You'd think people who play favorites with their producers would at least make said favorites easier to track down.
  • edited January 2013
Spoony isn't even on TGWTG anymore. They've parted ways.

Some people like TGWTG and find their antics hilarious, and some people hate it and find them completely un-funny. I used to enjoy it. I found them refreshingly funny when they first started out and were more amateurs, but now I'm starting to see that they kind of don't really know what they're doing half of the time and now that they consider themselves "professionals" it seems to come off as a bit pretentious. I guess that's the danger with any independent group, though.

I did enjoy To Boldly Flee a heck of a lot more than Suburban Knights, though. It seemed more cohesive. Though, it seems like over-dramatize a lot of their writing and drag on their scenes quite a bit with too much effects, camera work, and whatnot (I'm not film buff, these are just a couple things that started to bug me). But if it's what they like doing and people enjoy it, who am I to say it's not good. I don't really visit TGWTG anymore (I may check out the new Nostalgia Critic reviews...maybe) and I don't consider it important enough to check in my daily schedule, but more power to them if people enjoy it.

King of the Hill deserves to be insulted. The characters are either idiots or overly pretentious to the point of retardedness. Peggy Hill being the biggest idiot of all.

Yes but it had a few well-done subtle arcs therefore it is without fault

Peggy Hill being the biggest idiot of all.

But that was the whole point she was supposed to be a huge idiot who thinks she knows everything.
  • edited January 2013
They're idiots. Whether they're supposed to be idiots or not is irrelevant to whether or not it's a stupid show.

I don't see why Doug is to be hated just because he doesn't like King of the Hill. He doesn't really care for Harry Potter either, and I love Harry Potter. Does that make him the bane of the internet? Certainly not.

The fact that he produces little that's entertaining is further reason.

Little to you. And as it happens, to me. But not to everyone.
