Favourite TWD Let's Player and opinions?

edited March 2013 in The Walking Dead
Who is your favourite TWD Let's Player you've seen so far?
I would love to hear your opinions on them too - what you liked and didn't like about their playthroughs.

I'll put it as a poll and include all the LPers I've seen so far (not too many I know), and have an 'other' option for the less popular players. :)

It's not meant to be an LPer hate thread, and any criticisms should be backed up I would hope...

Also if anything I say is not received well, I hope it doesn't stop anyone posting!

PewDiePie - Probably my favourite LPer so far. I thought he did a very nice playthrough especially towards the end. I thought his reactions were very natural and understandable. Not much more to say, it was just enjoyable for me :) Doesn't seem to be many PewDiePie watchers here though, and no, I am definitely not a fanboy. I can promise you that :p

Cry (ChaoticMonki) - The LPer I am very mixed about. Generally he did a great and enjoyable playthrough for most of the game. Unfortunately, I was very let down by the ending. I thought his reaction was... just too much. I know the ending is sad absolutely. But I just couldn't take the absolute rage-out Cry went on when the game ended seriously, nor the readback of every line with that heartbroken tone (even though he probably was). It was very awkward for me, especially not being one of his usual obsessive fans. I believe that he was completely genuine with his reactions and not acting at all, but it was just too much and kind of ruined the experience for me in a weird way. But he did do a very good overall playthrough!

Tobuscus/Toby (TobyTurner) - I'm generally not a follower of Toby, but I've seen one or two things of his when they've popped up here and there. His style is okay, but was weird when applied to TWD. It was interesting to watch it like that though, variety and all :) His -crying- at the end is debatable. I'm still under the impression he wasn't really crying, and if he wasn't that's kind of a slap in the face. But there are plenty who believe it was genuine, and it really could be for all I know! It didn't detract from the enjoyment though.

Nova (UberHaxorNova) - These last two I don't have too much to say on unfortunately. But I liked Nova's commentary even though people say he was being too shouty. I thought it was quite a funny watch for a less serious playthrough :)

Ken (CinnamonToastKen) - Once again another one I quite liked. Haven't seen too much from this guy though.

Most of the popular Let's Players were annoying. I loved Maximusblack's playthrough of the game:

    http://www.youtube.com/user/MaximusBlack

-He had a facecam on and it was hilarious.

Well, I hate all of the lets players especially (PewDiePie) you mentioned so... I'm gonna go other.

I like Mackscorner, OfflimitsPC, and that's about it.
  • edited March 2013
Hannah from the Yogscast did a pretty good lets play and Matt and Pat of the Switcher (Two best friends play) are doing a pretty good one as well
I've never heard of any of those on your list...
  • edited March 2013
OfflimitsPC, because she was very natural and didn't try to overact like a lot of LPs.

It also helps that she is very personable and cute!

Well... not counting those already mentioned in the poll, my faves are(in no particular order):
    FarFromSubtle
    DSPGaming
    OfflimitsPC
    NGTZombies
    Tetraninja
    theRadBrad
    PauseUnpause
    DanQ8000
    DanzNewzMachinima
    GhostRobo

Right... i think that's all. Out of the poll options i watched them all but enjoyed CinnamonToastKen's the best. He really gets into the game, thinking about how his decisions will affect the characters, and i love that.

The people i tend to like watching are those who get totally immersed in the story, and seem to genuinely care for the characters and the struggles they're going through. I dislike those commentators who focus too much on jokes or trying to get a laugh. While that formula may work, it isn't for me. I watch to see(and hear) the reactions of others to the game, not for comedy or to see different choices, and the above names were great to watch(not that i don't enjoy a joke every now and then, just not excessively).

All of those motherfuckers only do it for money and views, AKA more watched ads and more subscribers to get constant dough.
I'm not sure if PewDiePie qualifies as one of these "muthafuckas" (He has lots of subs and was the first one to get big views with it), but the rest of them do.
I'm subscribed to Toby and he didn't take anything seriously. Even the faked crying in the end.. That shit brought a tear to my eye.
I'm not hating on anyone, I'm just pointing that out.
Just to mention, I find PewDiePie extremely annoying, but he got the first page on many of his videos, so that's how I found it out.

OfflimitsPC because she seems really immersed in the story. I enjoy listening to her offhand comments and she didn't seem to fake reactions. Her cheering for Carley was especially hilarious.

I was verge of yelling at you for putting *shuddes* Pewdiepie on the top of your list. But then I realized I will be a more mature and rational individual then I have been in the past. I mean there has to be people with different tastes and views then I? Right? I mean some people must find some appealing qualities in him... Even if he's an overrated, fake, useless, creepy, raspy freak that has a fanbase quantity that SO MANY OTHER PEOPLE ON YOUTUBE DESERVE MORE THAN HE BECAUSE THEY ACTUALLY PUT EFFORT INTO THEIR FUCKING VIDEOS UNLIKE THAT STUPID ASSHOLE PEWD-

    Oh my, I uh... Hm.

    :p

Anyways I really liked OfflimitsPC's playthrough. Check her out if you have not already!

    Cry:
I had watched his videos from time to time because I liked the sound of this voice a lot :3 But recently I decided to just watch his ending of TWD. I don't think he was overreacting at all, the fact that he gets SO involved with the characters makes me like him that much more.

Uberhaxornova: I was actually pretty fucking pissed at him throughout his TWD walkthrough. And then at the end he continually made jokes (It's been a while since I've watched it so forgive me if I'm a bit off) It's fine that he wanted a 'funny' playthrough but I don't know, I didn't like it.

Pewdiepie: Pewdiepie is someone I'm always on the fence about, I just recently unsubscribed from him. It sucks that no one actually payed attention to the video because of the little 'pop up incident' but Pewds was the first person I watched TWD from so I actually did not know the ending and cried along with him.

My favorite would porbably be Cry's with Nova's being last.

I just added some of your favorites to the poll. Unfortunately, that's the only way I am able to edit a poll, so if you already voted (for "other, do tell" for example), you can't vote again, I can't make it happen. :(

If at least two forum members suggest the same addition, I'll gladly put it in.

Recording your incoherent babble over video game footage does not make you a 'Let's Player', it makes you a shitty commentator. CinnamonToastKen is an example of a good 'Let's Player', Pewdiepie is a shitty commentator.

Um, no. I'd say that statement definitely applies to Pewdiepie. In fact, he's the worst one out of the whole lot. The other people on that list don't deserve to be lumped in with the likes of him and Toby. I don't care how many subs or views he has.

This is for all those who mentioned OfflimitsPC - She's a really popular choice on this thread it seems, and honestly I've never heard of her. From what you've all said though, seems like a no brainer to go check her out :) I'm sorry I couldn't have added her to the poll myself, sounds like she'd be a winner!

He was mainly at the top of the list because he was the first TWD LP-er I watched, so he popped to mind first. Plus his views are highest (I think, don't quote me on that). I'm not a huge fan by any means, just a casual 'here and there' viewer like with most LP-ers. I do apologize :p
    Thank you, I shall do!

Sorry, I missed your post. I was wondering if someone was going to bring up my Cry reaction :p He has got an awesome voice in all fairness. It's hard to explain... I know that that kind of reaction is good. And it is a really awesome quality to get so immersed into a story to react that much. But unfortunately it didn't have the same effect, and made me feel... well... I don't even know. Awkward is the only way I can describe it, but not the 'aww no he's crying' kind of awkward. I am probably making no sense, but all I know is that his extreme reaction kind of put me off a bit for some weird reason. Luckily for Cry fans and normal people I think I'm the only one who thinks this way :p
  • edited March 2013
TJPguy, I actually felt the same for some reason when I heard Cry's reaction. So I know exactly how you feel...but I can't explain it either, lol. Awkward is a good description, though.

I was disappointed to see that CinnamonToastKen had no votes. His was probably my favorite, so I went ahead and gave him a vote.

Mornai - thanks for that list of people. FarFromSubtle was pretty awesome to watch.

There's no need to apologize. I don't begrudge anyone for being a fan of his, though, I don't understand the appeal, and people have different likes and dislikes. Of course Pewdie was going to show up on this type of list. My response was towards the person who was shitting on those other LP'ers and giving this guy a pass because of his popularity. In my opinion, Pewdie and Toby are the equivalent of top 40 radio. They're popular with the masses but they're completely worthless. They don't hold a candle to the rest of those LP'ers. This is just my opinion though, so take it for what it's worth.

OfflimitsPC.Mostly immersed in the game, and just generally awesome.

Well I can understand why some don't like Pewds, I do though... why? Because he has a great accent, he's the calm type, he reacts naturally, he is into gaming, he is funny, and as his walking dead let's play showed me, he has a serious and sensitive side, for a guy who doesn't take much serious, like you can see in his LPs, he took twd real serious and his crying in the end showed me, that he didn't need to "man up" in front of a couple of million views, but he showed a natural, true reaction, and that is something not many people would do on the internet, knowing that a couple of million people would be watching, that's a real man.

Now Cry is different, he is very serious, he has a great voice, and he is funny all the same, and that's what I like about him, he does great let's plays, he's no fame-whore, he tells people, that if they didn't like his vids, they should go ahead and leave, he plays whatever he likes, he doesn't do it for money, as he simply cancelles some LPs because he doesn't enjoy them, and if he doesn't enjoy a LP his commentary will suck, and we, the fans wouldn't enjoy it either. His walking dead LP was funny to me, due to his great reactions, I was laughing my ass-off, knowing what would happen next. :D His reaction in the end is debatable though, but I saw it coming, and so it looked natural to me.

OfflimitsPC deserves my vote. Not only she is totally immersed with the game and the wide range of characters, she's tends to notice a few things that I believe that most players would miss.

Since PewDiePie cryed and truly feels The Walking Dead he got my respect. So it's him.

I haven't watched the others, but I watched PewDiePie, Cry and Toby play it, and I'd have to say that Cry's playthrough was the best by far.

He played from the heart and was sobbing his eyes out at the end of Episode 5, and he played it so emotionally and beautifully and really thought about everything, and it was obvious how attached he got to the characters, especially Clementine.

I liked PewDiePie's playthrough too, although his was more humorous than emotional, it really depends on your taste in playthroughs.

I usually love Toby's videos, but for me, his TWD playthrough videos were a little boring, he talked through some important dialogue, and he spent most of the videos laughing at what he was saying.
  • edited July 2013
I respected Pewdiepie, I watch he every so often or when I am board, I AM NOT apart of his horde of brain eating hate everything fans, I liked his playthrough but I liked Cry more, he seemed really attached to everyone, his reactions were very similar to my own reactions.

    I'm the expert of let's plays!I've watched A LOT!Let's see:

I really hated pewdiepie (aside from the fact that he's annoying, over the top, overrated, blah blah) and offlimitspc, because if you are a little observant you can tell that they're not doing a blind lets play but a walkthrough.I'm not fond of fake, pretentious people,so i'm not watching any of their videos again.

I voted for Cry,who made,if not my favourite, one of my top 3 favourite lets plays.
    I liked a lot phallll and gamermd83.
    Other favourites,in no particular order:
    nulemdukem
    radbrad
    tetraninja
    ghostrobo
    forceSC2strategy
    NGTZombies
    regulardave2975
    Centerstrain01

I'm shocked a walkthrough for this game even exists. I'm absolutely horrendous at even the easiest puzzles in any game(and frequently need walkthroughs), but i never had to look one up for TWD.

Same here, the only help I had to look up was were the battery's were for Carley's radio in Episode 1 and sadly I needed a little help with the train puzzle in Episode 3, not that much I just needed to see the map, which I Found out could be used by pressing a button.

No,that's not what i meant.I was trying to say that they pretend to be doing a lets play (which means that you play a game for the first time,a blind playthrough) but it's obvious that it's at least their second playthrough (or they watched someone else's videos first and knew what was going on).

I shouldn't have used the word walkthrough.Sorry about the confusion.

I only watch blind let's plays too, i like it when they are genuine with their reactions. Sometimes it's difficult to tell if they're being real, or if they're just really good actors.

That's the problem with Youtube these days, most of the big ones just fake rage or fake scare to get people and it seems to work, I do not know if Pewdiepie or Toby knew everything that was to come, it mean it's hard to fake tears and it is hard to cry at the same thing twice in a row so I don't know.

Yeah,me too.Well... offlimitspc has bad acting skills. At some points she made some comments that made me suspicious and i started to observe her reactions and facial expresions (because she's oveconfident, obviously, and uses a facecam).I'm sure she was faking. One screw up that i remember clearly is this:when Lee watched the tape with Molly and the doctor, offlimitspc said "so,if you want to get some with Molly, you need to have insulin".She made that comment before the conversation between Molly and Lee took place. In the tape Molly just said "my sister is sick".There are so many damn diseases, how did offlimitspc know that Molly's sister is diabetic? Is she psychic or something?

I won't do an analysis, but what i said above applies here too.Comments, reactions etc made me believe that he's faking.Regarding the crying, maybe he did play blind in the last episode, maybe he didn't.In the latter case,it's not necessary that he faked the tears.Believe me,i've cried true tears during the ending scene, more than once (or twice :o )!

Well...Cry,Cinnamontoast and Maximus seem genuine.I watched a couple of videos of Toby and...oh,the horror.Legitimate or not,i can't bear to watch him.I also watched a couple of videos of Nova but for some reason i didn't like them.Maybe he was legit, but not my cup of tea.I haven't checked the last two yet.
