I'm not that big of a fan either but I do like some good old school shit like "The Message"

Cool thread idea!
Anyway, I just bought Kendrick Lamar's new album yesterday and it is truly something special. It has everything, from hardcore boom-bap to jazz & funk throwbacks and even some spoken word interludes. Definitely worth the purchase or a listen on Spotify.

BY THE TIME YOU HEAR THE NEXT POP, THE FUNK SHALL BE WITHIN YOU.
Standout Tracks : "I", "The Blacker the Berry", "King Kunta" and "Wesley's Theory".
Dre and Em are great, even if Dre never wrote most of his big hits.
This might be sacrilege, but I don't like Ice Cube. He is (or at least was) a racist douche and a fake. That particular song is very good though.
He's got some great tracks, but some of his stuff was a definite miss in my opinion. But shit like Wicked was straight fire minus the extinguisher.

Plus, I thought he had some of the better verses when he was with N.W.A.
Super classic, it's hard to look back on songs like that and really enjoy the product today. Mostly because the same subject matter has been tackled far more extensively and better but I have nothing but respect for Grandmaster Flash and this great track.
I'd like to pick some of his work up at some point soon. Cause as I've told you "The Blacker the Berry" really peaked my interest plus I've heard some of his other material and enjoyed it a bit and heard that To Pimp a Butterfly was a really superb follow up to Good Kid, M.A.A.D. City.
I can't wait to see what else he's got up his sleeves.
Earl Sweatshirt is one of the few people that I find to be a genuine contender for a rapper that can hold such vile subject matter yet can still stand with some of the strongest lyricists out there.

"The Nas of Horrorcore."
I heard somewhere that he's not even in this song or something lol
The only rap song I've ever truly enjoyed, mainly because it features Aerosmith.
Oh yeah! I remember that album, shit was vile!
He's largely moved on from Horrorcore though. His currents stuff is more avant-garde than anything.

Yeah, actually I purchased his recent album "I Don't Like Shit, I Don't Go Outside: An Album by Earl Sweatshirt." And although quite the pompous title, the album was extremely interesting, I'm still not entirely sure I enjoyed it per-se, but it was some of most deeply personal material to date.
But I did love his first extreme mixtape, and Doris was spectacular no matter what anyone says.
Doris is absolutely one of my favorites. I'm not sure about his newest album (I refuse to type that title) . I think he could've gotten more producers on board and maybe pulled a few more people for guest verses. His rapping was rock-solid, but the whole thing felt absolutely dismal and dreary. The whole thing made it seem like Earl was in the midst of a breakdown (which is a very real possibility).
Well one thing I had heard from his Facebook account was that he was no longer with Odd Future and that he and them had had a falling out. And that that would be some of the subject matter addressed on the new album.
I'm not sure what happened but it is disheartening to know we might never get a great collaboration like Couch or Rusty again.
Much the same for me with this song, because it includes Anthrax.

That's a great one too, forgot about that.
I first heard it on the original Smackdown vs. Raw game in like 2006, at a friend's house. I don't know why I remember that.
I remember this song being on one of the Guitar Hero games, that's when I first heard it.
These threads never last long lol. I do like these type of threads though I don't like a lot of rap/hip hop bands. Except:
Hollywood Undead
Deuce
Bukshot
Twiztid
Boondox
ICP(to a degree, but mostly just their older stuff.)
I liked Twiztid's first two albums, and some of their work interspersed is decent enough but overall I find their lack of vision a bit distracting to the skill they posses.
And, as far as ICP goes, I too love their older material so much more than anything they've released in over the past ten years. Honestly, I think their last good album was The Amazing Jeckel Brothers.
Fingers crossed you're wrong this time.
Not bad at all.
Actually, on the topic of Aerosmith, I recently heard an Em song that samples Dream On. And it's one of his best to boot.
o
God, Eminem fell off.
And I didn't even love The Eminem Show personally, just so much better than any of his newer stuff honestly. Also, and this may be a bit controversial, but he was the greatest when he was spitting with D12 in my opinion.
I'll keep it alive. Even if I have to keep it on life support with terrible freestyling.
Big Blind for your mind one time
I keep this shit alive so it continues to thrive. WHAT
Even if it's just a few hip hop heads, that's fine in my opinion.
Also, digging that Nas reference.
That's a pretty good song, not bad Eminem.
Don't want to sound like a dick or anything but just saying my opinion because that's what you do on forums right?
I can't stand rap.
Care to explain/elaborate?
Not my kinda music.
Understandable I suppose, it's not for everyone although I can't stress enough that it's not all big booty bitches and weed puffin self-absorbed bullshit. There are quite a few great self-conscious material like The Roots or Immortal Technique.
But, it may just be the actual aesthetic itself that turns you off? In which case, yeah you're entitled to that opinion.
So anybody know any female rappers similar to those artist in listed earlier? I swear I can never find any good female rappers. (Not saying females can't be good rappers I'm just saying there doesn't seem to be a lot out there)
Today's album is 'Son of Yvonne' a collaboration between Masta Ace (from the Juice Crew) and MF Doom. It's a beautifully mellow and nostalgic album in which Masta Ace hops on some classic DOOM beats and raps about memories from his childhood and his rise to (relative) fame. It's just a great, very chill album and one that I'd heartily recommend to anyone, especially those who are turned off by the gangsta-isms of mainstream rap.

I mean, damn! The guy is rapping about his mommy. He's definitely over trying to convince people he's cool. Beautiful song and album: 9/10
Well, I've heard exceptional things about Snow Tha Product and there was a female member of Three 6 Mafia named Gangsta Boo who is pretty great. In fact, you've said you like Twiztid, and she was featured on one of their songs from Freek Show (the song was called Where's It Goin' Down and she killed).
Other than that, try out M.I.A., Lauren Hill is pretty ok (I'm not a huge fan but she does deserve props), and I know there was another fairly unknown artist I'm forgetting but she was good from what I heard... Damn.
Goddammit! I forgot all about MF Doom, I need to check him out also...
I have so much hip-hop musicians to catch up on. And I like the contemporary jazz playing in the back, it makes the flow oddly intoxicating and soothing... Good stuff.
Sweet I will check them out. Thank you.
I wanted to share a more dubious piece of information about the kind of rap I enjoy sometimes...
I actually find myself nodding to some of Waka Flocka's work and "Hot Nigga" but Bobby Shmurda is still pretty great... plus, although I don't like Chief Keef at all, I Don't Like (ironic, I know) had an infectiously catchy production and Keef had pretty good flow and intensity.

Plus, there was none of his goddamn dumb auto-tune.
And I also understand shit like this only reinforces negative stereotypes of rap to the lowest common denominator. But sometimes if something bangs, it bangs.
Eh, I thought the MMLP2 was a welcome return to form, actually.
As for D12; I always liked Em and Proof's rapping but I can't stand bizarre. He spits the same vile lyrics as Em, but lacks any charisma to back them up.
check out the Lady of Rage. The stuff I've heard from her is pretty good.
Quick! Who am I?
nuh fuhin nuh fuh nugguhs sosa shuh muk muh bang bang.
Anyway, I can agree with that. Hot Nigga has a surprisingly solid and catchy trap beat, as does this. A$AP Rocky is another swag rapper who's become something of a guilty pleasure of mine.
I find Chief Keef hilarious his mannerisms just crack me up. Though, I'll admit that he's a walking ad for the prison-industrial complex. I read somewhere that he might have aspbergers. That combined with a rough upbringing in Chiraq would explain a lot about his attitude.
Yeah, I'd say that stuff like Bobby Shmurda and Waka are the Anal Cunt of my rap interests. Aka something so obscenely juvenile and disgustingly bereft of all substance it actually gives my brain the thought equivalent of sweet tooth.
Hmm I guess I will bump this with a song from my favorite band. :P
