...most sites delete topics when post counts hit 200-500 and just let a user start a new one.

and whoa whoa whoa...this is almost a single topic conversation in here... best say something random or who knows where this thread will be tomorrow.

I wonder when the new Beavis and Butt-heads are starting....there, there's something.

Most fun thread in the past few weeks and it gets shut down before it really gets going. Now I'm sad.

The most entertaining thread in quite some time has been locked. This is unacceptable. Since I have the contact information of everyone I want to talk to, I suppose I shall take a reprieve of this place - this time an open ended one. It's been a blast, all. Well, except when it wasn't.

To be fair, you guys derailed that thread so hard, you could've continued the conversation in literally any other thread on the boards and there wouldn't have been any difference. I'd say you guys should have your own thread for that sort of thing, but you know how that went the last time I thought it was a good idea...

I've just came up with what I think could be a pretty good plot for this videogame idea I've been working on for a few days.
Its fairly simple, its not exactly original and I haven't fleshed it all out yet, but I feel it works best for this game.

I've also been thinking a bit more about the gameplay too, and I'm wondering how to keep it fresh and interesting.
Tweaking the genre would be risky, but all the best games I have played always mixed it up a bit.

Its still very far off that sort of thinking though, so for now, I'm going to note some stuff down, and continue trying to flesh it out.
(need to get it working first obviously....)

Prometheus isn't even coming out for just over a year from now, and there aren't a ton of details about it yet, so the fact that no one participated much in the thread isn't that surprising.

Not surprising?! I only created the best thread ever conceived by man. The creation of that thread sits comfortably alongside the creation of fire, the wheel and those little sachets of ketchup you get at takeaways. I guess if Johnny Depp had been cast in Prometheus then I might have actually got a few more replies.

This place is so unfriendly any more the admins got us all whipped into a corner and we can't express ourselves anymore, they decide what ideas sound similar and take way our own freedoms of speech and anything we consider a new topic for discussion.

They are getting carried away. They must be getting paid 20 dollars a hour or something here...this is bonkers. This place doesn't feel as friendly as it used to feel.

This isn't the best timing for this new elite admin chain of moderators either.

I would have said it sooner then, because lots of my threads have been moved or deleted. It's not just me, this whole place is a train wreck of moved threads. :p

But, I'm being honest, that's how I feel. Next, I'll be in trouble for feeling that way ? I appreciate your response, but if I can't even express myself about this issue that the forums, then something is out of sync here, or whacked up severely.

If I can't even have a opinion about this here, then admins truly are on over drive.I apologize if I'm not being fair to you and the other admins. Some of my threads do remain un-molested , and I appreciate that, even if I don't necessarily deserve it by some sort of golden rules of forum-ing. I understand things have to be made up as we go and you'll all doing the best job that you can.

I actually agree with you on this. Whilst I fully understand the necessity for mods on this forum and that overall they do a good job, I have noticed that over the last few months it's slowly become a place where you feel like you're in school, getting a slapped wrist from teacher.

I'm an adult at 28 and I do take great care to act in a way that is restrained enough as not to offend young eyes (or more likely over-zealous parents). Yet, I often feel as though I have to hold back the adult side of myself and communicate as though I have a mind literally as innocent as a 7 year olds. At times, it feels like censorship of freedom of speech. Plus, none of this is even touching on the threads getting locked, moved and deleted as if there was no tomorrow.

A good parallel is the police force; as a society we require their presence and their right to act with authority. However, the police sometimes need to be reminded that they exist to serve us, the public and that with power comes great responsibility (cliché I know but also true).

I do see that some moderators recently had problems dealing with the contents of your threads and posts, but it was never the intention to limit your expression. You might have noticed that some of these threads were closed and moved, but to my knowledge nothing was deleted (I might be wrong there). This is not about limiting self-expression, but maybe about finding an appropriate way to do it. I can not speak for the whole bunch of moderators, but I can say that discussing the matter should help. I hope you know that reasoning works with me at least. ;)

The feeling might be an immediate result of having far more moderators around. There was a surge of new mods these past months, and they have all done a great job. But necessarily, if there's more "police" around, you do feel their presence more intensely. Making the rules clear is the key issue for all mods, and in some cases, this might also be the key problem. The "slap on the wrist" will always feel inappropriate while quite often, the original intent was just a friendly reminder. Regarding my last PM to you, well... you shocked us out of our wits with THAT one. ;)

I wasn't referring specifically to that particular debacle or regarding my own posts in general for that matter. I was referring to the forum and its users as a whole. None the less, I appreciate that the influx of new officers.. uh, mods is bound to have an impact. I just hope that things settle down a bit soon.

P.S. You're actually one of my favored mods Vainamonien, so please don't take my complaints personally or to heart. ;)

Yes, he's just doing a job, I can relate. If he wasn't being fair, he wouldn't take time to respond to so many emails and posts about his actions. He's a good moderator. With universal theory, he's a great moderator. As he listens to others and reasons with them. I gave him a A+ On rate my moderator.com

Going to go work out now.

Hayden, that's awesome! I prefer Within Temptation over Nightwish, but each to their own. Which performer of the NightWish did you enjoy the most? Which female fronted singer of the two?

I really can't call it, to be honest. Tarja obviously has a more impressive vocal range, and her classical style obviously brings a certain quality to her singing which Annette simply cannot achieve. However, with that being said, Annette does have a commendable vocal range, and she also has a certain warmth and character to her voice that I felt Tarja lacked. So, in short, I think they're both terrific singers, who have completely different styles, and shine in different areas, and are therefore incomparable.

    Who do you prefer?
You are aware of the "misheard lyrics"-videos, aren't you?

Yes, I am aware of them :D. If there was one complaint that could be made about Tarja, it would be her pronunciation of English words :). Her accent and pronunciation has never worried me too much, though.

I don't think so. I felt that way (that I was being scolded, that the place was losing its charm as threads were being split and locked the second they didn't talk exactly of the thread's subject line, etc) a long time before more mods arrived. I know for a fact Yare was still here because he was doing a bunch of the locking. The threads I had most interest in replying to were routinely the threads that I couldn't reply to because they had been locked.

This being said, I don't feel that way anymore. Since then I have felt like the number of threads I had any real interest in replying to has diminished greatly or even disappeared. I find it funny that Davies says he's being restrained when the only reason I noticed his comment was that you quoted him, Vainamoinen, since I've had him on ignore for a while. It takes a lot to get me to set someone on ignore, and hell, I'm hardly a restrained person myself, so how can one's being restrained still be so obnoxious?
I'm not trying to be offensive or to flame here, I mean, the reason I've been using the ignore list lately is precisely so I can leave people be rather than complain I don't enjoy their posts, but it boggles my mind that you are restraining yourself and you were still the reason I started using the feature in the first place.

Honestly, I don't think it's the new mods. I think the mods were needed earlier and now they're around but have too much to work with because the weeds have spread everywhere, and the posters who made interesting posts (and no, that doesn't include either of you, Alcoremortis and Comrade Pants, as much as you're my friends) have pretty much stopped posting or gone away, or are busy modding the forums.
And because people are used to little to no modding (Jake's a great admin, but he's got sh-t to do, and others have left) there is a huge backlash when the mods are trying to make the forums livable again.

Remember when the boobies thread had run its course and people kept talking in it, me included, instead of just leaving it be (probably because we didn't want to admit its good days were behind us)? Well the whole forum feels like that to me now, and I guess for a while I've been going anyways because I remember when it was a place I actually enjoyed, and I want that back.

Now I'm not sure that's ever going to happen, and that's a shame. But it certainly isn't the mods' fault. They can always trim the fat, but if there is no actual meat, you're just left with nothing.

On the subject of mod stuff, we'll almost certainly make a poor call sometimes and I'd much rather get honest feedback on how people feel than have them silently stew about it. We're here for you and the community as a whole, not to impose a totalitarian regime. At the very least that kind of feedback reminds us to be mindful of how actions are perceived and to provide a decent level of transparency. Of course, feel free to let us know if/when we're doing a good job too. :p

It's a shame that you've got me on ignore as you won't be able to read these words; you're an intelligent wonder, I've never done anything to try and compliment you before, I don't think I've ever so much as made one comment aimed in your direction the entire time I've been on this thread. Allow me to remedy that situation... you are a shining star, a true heroine, a credit to humanity.

You possess an incredible sense of humour and have never made me feel bad about myself without cause. Much love to you, you amazing miracle; I bet you would never ignore nice people who try to make others laugh in real life. You darn lovable, beautiful lady. It's also not in the least bit cowardly to put someone on ignore and then slate them. In fact, I highly respect you for it.

You are a darling, a genius, a great, large-minded sweetheart and if you spoke to me the way you just did to my face then I'd downright give you a massive hug.
