To Guybrush_Threpwood: Well, they're not any charity nuns. If they made and sell games, they want money for these games. It's their job after all, their way to earn money for survive.
But it's clear that's is a job they love to do, and they do it very well.
Of course, but one thing is saying a company is a cold hearted money machine, and another is saying they ask your money for good products they do with passion and love. What I was criticizing to jazzIrc is just that.

Well it's both. The company has investors. These are people who have tied up some portion of their life's savings in the company and they require it to turn a profit.
But at the same time, I am perfectly sure the programmers and artists enjoy working on the games they produce. So like any good capitalist venture it is both profit and passion at the same time.
Yep, as you say, BOTH.
jazzIrc's comment wasn't stating the same, but now it's OK, explained him everything.
Gee, I should have done the lawyer instead of the computer science nerd.

And sit in a soul crushing courtroom addressing ridiculous copyright issues all day? I think not. The only type of legal career I'd ever consider is TV judge! Judge Judy FTW.
Damn it is hard getting anywhere with the Japanese NES port of Maniac Mansion!
I have to make notes of what each verb actually is, and I think I need to make a table for the inventory... (I want to see all the different rooms of that version...)
Gente, I don't think there's a real need to keep begging Telltale with this. We all know this game will eventually be translated and released in Spanish. It's just a matter of time, and it will probably be a fact of the retail edition reaching Spain. This is an almost secure fact, mostly if LucasArts takes the lead in the publishing and localising. So it's not like we are going to have a new Tales of Vesperia fiasco here, that's for sure.
The question is, what would be actually reciving, a simple text-translation or a full translation and dub process?
Now, this is a risky matter with the Monkey Island series because of the complete and top-notch Spanish voice localisations The Curse of Monkey Island and Escape from Monkey Island (La Fuga de Monkey Island in Spain) got, both with the same excellent quality actors.
Antonio Fernández Muñoz proved with his excellent acting to be an equally good, if not better, Guybrush Threepwood than Dominic Armato. And let's not forget the great performances also done by Chema Lapuente as LeChuck and Juan Carlos Lozano as Murray (boy, this one is sweet acting dude), among others.
So, in order to fully please the Spanish audience of Monkey Island, if wouldn't be just a fact of fully dubbing the product, but actually to keep up the continuity rehiring the same actors that previously did The Curse of Monkey Island and La Fuga de Monkey Island, in a similar way than is being done in the original cast of Tales of Monkey Island with Dominic Armato reprising the Guybrush role.
Personally, I would kill to see most of the old cast reprising their roles in Tales of Monkey Island, along with the excellent script translating and humor readapting process that has been an standard within the four previous games (including the ones that were unvoiced).
Its very simple, its just the next games have with a little folder with a file that can be opened on notepad with all the text in the game, then anyone can translate then and share here on the forum.
The Monkey Island series truly deserves more than just that simple and average effort.
Patience is a sharp razor to swallow, like Sam said. I just hope for a full and top-notch quality localisation bringing back the old continuity actors, no matter the time to wait for that to come.
Why do these threads ALWAYS get out of hand? And why do people ALWAYS assume onlyamonkey is American? I have to say though, this thread is a lot better than the "Give us the translation" thread that basically turned into "Telltale games sucks and is a lazy company for not translating this game." I am an American and I support the localization of Tales of Monkey Island because it is such an incredible series and everyone deserves to experience the next chapter of it. So can we please keep the insults to Telltale to a minimum? They are an American company and the predominant language of their employees is English so it makes sense that the game would be released (originally) in English only. Also, as Emily posted a while back, you should probably try to post in English (or at least offer an English translation of your post) so that the English speaking moderators can ensure an acceptable posting environment. Telltale has already stated multiple times that they plan to address the translations at a later time, have some faith!
Also...NEVER say that anyone did a better Guybrush Threepwood than Dominic...EVER!:p
Hi, i am a big fan of this saga, and I play all the monkey island games because is the most biggest games of all. but i have a problem with tales of monkey island, the problem is her language, is english, and me not speak english and i wanna play this game.
if you see this is an important thing for much people. because for this i say:
I got my spanish version of EMI right here, but I don't want to install it really, but wasn't Guybrush's voice in it, welll.... MUY voz de PITO?
Eduardo: yes, I know that several parts of the game has this issue (specially at very beginning while guybrush is tied at the ship), but after that the dubbing is Antonio Fernandez Muñoz normal voice
I don't know what the hell the dubbers did with Guybrush voice in that scene (like played in fast forward speed )
I have listened both enough to be able to compare.
Your appreciation of "better" could be potentially compromised due to your Spanish roots hence rendering the Spanish performance more natural and well executed for your ears. In my case, and eventhough Spanish is my mother tongue and that I first played the Spanish version of Curse back in 1997, I prefer the original English voice mainly because of how poorly the Spanish dubber pronounces English words... Isla Bl/u/d comes to my head.
More like "Por el amor de dios" if you try to mean what I think.
You're right I think he's trying to say "For god's sake".

Maybe it is, maybe it's not. Most people definitely will behave like this no matter how good or bad is the foreign language dub because they couldn't make a difference when concerning foreign language, but I think I have enough knowledge and experience into English language (it actually comes from watching movies and playing dialogue-heavy games with English speech) to have a certain developed taste in English dubs, despite not being my native language.
I'll show you something proving this. If you are into the Metal Gear series, you'll know how popular was the Spanish dub of the first Metal Gear Solid, even to be considered by many "the best Spanish dub for a videogame ever". However, I prefer the English dub much more than the Spanish, I love the voice selection and acting effort of this dub which seems perfect to me (can't say the same about the Spanish one even if it's decent enough).
Concerning Monkey Island, I find both Dominic Armato and Antonio Fernández Muñoz properly representing the character of Guybrush Threepwood with their acting, but I feel Antonio's voice tone to be more fitting to the character than Dominic's is. He suits both his tone and acting mood very well to the different situations in The Curse of Monkey Island (also in Escape from Monkey Island, but for a strange directing reason they digitally modified his voice in some situations, as it has already been pointed out), and while I can say Dominic Armato also does, I ultimately prefer Antonio's tone more.
The same I could say about Murray (Juan Carlos Lozano) and LeChuck (Chema Lapuente). I would love these three actors to be reprised in their roles for a possible future Spanish dub of Tales as they were genius doing their characters' performance (well, and also Elsa Pinillos as Elaine because she's an important character and didn't do it bad). The rest can be done by whenever they want to, I really wouldn't mind if they keep continuity for them or not (Voodoo Lady, for example, can easily be done by any Cuban accent woman).
The pronouncing issue doesn't suppose a nuisance for me, because it's not related to acting performance but to language differences. Take a look at foreign language sentences in the English dubs like "Madre de Dios" (Madre de DÍÍos), "Pollo Diablo" (Puoiou Diablo) and "La Esponja Grande" (La EsponLLa Grande) and you'll see what I mean.
Because they HAVE already stated that translations to several European languages (including Spanish) are on the way but it's not a priority. All your whining won't do anything.
On the way, I know.
But have they said something about a translation update, or multilingual DVD at the end of the season, or something, if you buy the game now?
On the way, I know.

Nope. Nothing.
I hope this is a signal of LucasArts eventually handling the matter and investing for a complete localization, instead of Telltale itself doing a minor one.
just curious? now my english is far from perfect, and i learned most of it myself? why do you even like stuff in youre own language? i mean i wouldn touch a games translated to danish with a teen feet pole. it just sucks.
Yeah, but you danishs are good with english
We French are pretty lame at it.
I tried sam and Max in french, and max's voice sound wrong.
Then, when i read and write english a lot, i still had to use my dictionary when playing sam and max.
I hope this is a signal of LucasArts eventually handling the matter and investing for a complete localization, instead of Telltale itself doing a minor one.
That would be great.
Alas, that means two things:
* Unluckily for me (more exactly, for my parents and sister), I'll have to wait.
* Unluckily for Telltale, I won't buy the game directly to them. It would be nice if they give you some discount coupon if you buy the game now, so you'll be able to buy the localized game a little cheaper. But they didn't do that for Sam&Max, I don't think they'll do it now.
So, if there's no Telltale official and more concrete news about translations (besides the "they'll eventually exist"), my schedule is as follows:
* Buy english WiiWare version ASAP.
* Wait until PC localized version, whoever is the European distributor (TellTale, LucasArts, Activision, Nobilis, Atari...)
I only hope, for a eventually spanish dubbed version, that Guybrush's voice won't be as high-pitched as in EMI. That voice could fit the childish-looking Guybrush from EMI, but TMI's Guybrush looks quite "adult-er". Even being the same actor's voice, CMI's voice was way better.

thumbs up for the Eels reference!
Don't be sorry, pal, anyone can be wrong.
