Lair of the Leviathan - Speculation

edited September 2009 in Tales of Monkey Island
Right, well... let's keep all the speculations in here (haven't found another thread, correct me if I'm wrong)

Anyway, I think the next episode (or, the most part of it) will be set entirely in the giant manatee, where I think we will also encounter Murray

Guybrush and Morgan will probably bond in a way but because of the title of chapter 4, I doubt it will end well...

i'm hoping that guybrush finds out that the parrot is cursed... and he can NEVER get rid of it... dah dah dahhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

I think your right with Morgan and Guybrush.. I thought straight away that those 2 will get close and it looks like LeChuck and Elaine are too. But in the end Guybrush and Elaine will be together sailing into the sunset .. and will Morgan and LeChuck hitch up? I'm thinking so

One minor thing i'm hoping for is that, if the whole episodes happens inside the levithan (or in its lair, as hinted by the title), therefore being basically an "escape the damn place" episode, we'll get more of those kinda "meanwhile" scenes like the ones whith DeSinge in ep.2. I don't know, i just love those sequances and it kinda lacked in the first chapter.

Oh, and LeFlay will turn out to be Largo LaGrande in disguise

I reckon Morgan will die horribly, but not until chapter 4 at least. I do think that Elaine will hook up with LeChuck, especially since she didn't seem to respect Guybrush as a person (I kind of got the impression she was talking to Guybrush like she would a daft dog, which leads me to wonder what their bedroom life is like...) in my mind, and implies a rather unhealthy relationship based around dependancy. Plus, they are both of the pirate persuasion, so it wouldn't surprise me for them to have a port of call in every port...;)

I can also see Morgan as the type of villain that will be redeemed along the way

elaine truly loves guybrush, you can tell. but i still think she'll be swayed by "nice" lechuck

when she didnt go with him i was like :(:( guybrush

am I the only one who thinks the leviathan (or was that beast even the leviathan??) looks friendly??.... it looks like a huge seal imo.

This could easily be one of the sea creatures taking the gang underwater to La Esponja Grande that is hidden in the lair of the leviathan. just transporting them in it's mouth as it were, and then spitting them out in the lair.

Further more, I feel that Morgan has a crush on Guybrush ("but you're married to Elaine...") and will eventually turn out good in the end.

I also got a funny idea about the Pox in Elaine... somehow it just seemed different on her (no actual visual pox and her eyes seemed different to the other pox victims)... Maybe it turns out she isn't really Elaine and the Pirate God (LeChuck???) has put some sort of spell on her.

The realm of the manatee is probably la sponga grande, and it eating guybrush is what was supposed to happen.

We haven't saw the Leviathan yet , that beast was a simple ocean beast! I think that we will meet the Leviathan in the next chapter.

I think Elaine knows a lot more about what is going on than she is letting on. There has to be a reason that she's letting LeChuck do his thing, and there has to be a reason why she gave Guybrush her wedding ring - although chances are we won't find out until the final episode.

Anyway, hm, I wouldn't be surprised if a few familiar faces turn up within the belly of the beast - like Murray or whoever.
I can't really think of what else to expect, though - we'll probably finally get plot revelations from De Cava, and maybe even learn something about the nature of the Pox itself, but that's all I've got.

*edit* Oh yes, and the sponge has to be there as well, right? Unless 'someone else' siezes it beforehand.
Thinking of that, we probably haven't seen the last of Macgillicuty.
  • edited August 2009
Of course that was supposed to happen. They did mention that he was going to be led to a mouth before finding the Sponge.
And it's a manatee. Not only do they say it as they're being swallowed, but that's a theme with the merfolks so it makes a lot of sense.

Yeah, I was just joking around. ;) I thought the forums were acting a bit slow, thought it was someone on my end. Damn stock markets, always messing up the forums...

Especially with all the hints to a "Path of the mouth".

Personally, I find it disgusting even considering exiting thru the Leviathian's backdoor.

And I don't really care if we get to see Murray or not. We got the Pyrite Parrot.

I think the beast is taking us somewhere else... I doubt a whole episode could revolve around the inside of a sea creature. Hopefully there'll be a decent portion of gameplay in there and maybe some sort of stranded character. Unless, as it's probably a magical sea creature it's inside might be bigger than you expect?

I think she doesn't trust Human LeChuck at all and is just playing along with him to keep an eye on what he's up to. You can tell at the end where she tells Guybrush "Trust me."

I can't wait for Murray's heart-stopping tale of malice and EEEEVIL! Mwahahahahaha!

It would be interesting if he was inside the manatee.
  • edited August 2009
I'm guessing we'll either see DeCava in there or later outside.

Since he had a map to "Path to the Mouth"... He's been there at least once. He'll be an interesting character for sure.

Am I the only one who doesn't want Lechuck to stay human? I don't want him to be that way forever.. I want the evil demonic Lechuck we'd all grown to love back. I'm guessing that Lechuck has a hidden agenda though and the pox spreading is all part of his plan.. well I hope so becasue Lechuck being the good guy and not the evil villain just doesn't feel right.

LOL, when I saw it I was like "That's no leviathan, that's a huge manatee!" XD and can't believe my friend said "That's the second biggest manatee I ever seen!"

But yeah, from seeing many manatees in this game, I know what they look like. And leviathan in legend is a huge water SNAKE! *looks at the people on the forum* Yeah a SNAKE. Get it in your head guys!

I think LeChuck will end up been his voodoo self by the end, I got the impression that he's starting to miss it when he got beaten up.

The sponge only soaks up the pox so he could end up sucking the pox back into himself.

Let's not forget that, according to the journal you can unlock in the Treasure Hunt, De Cava was fully aware he had to go to the mouth, but couldn't find all the golden artifacts, so he just made some himself (this is also hinted at ingame with the 'animal matchmaking'-book). The journal also talks about building some sort of submarine, which is also hinted at ingame, so I think it's possible we'll find De Cava stranded in his submarine inside the manatee/in his lair/at the bottom of the ocean.

The 'path of the mouth'-map in his cabin in the game could either refer to the route you have to take to get to the manatee, or it could be the route the manatee swims to get to his lair/the sponge. If it's the last one, it could mean that De Cava wanted to travel to the lair/sponge inside his submarine instead of inside a giant manatee (which would be rather sensible of him).

But yeah, my money is on meeting De Cava and his ruined submarine inside the manatee/lair/ocean floor next episode. Oh, and I just wanted to say that the last cutscene of Spinner Cay is the most impressive cutscene Telltale has ever made. Really, really impressive stuff.

BTW. Didn't it occur to anyone that Jacques could be the thriteenth Monkey of Montevideo LeChuck was trying to sacrifice, washed up somehow on shore, just like Guybrush? And that it may have some significance?

    huh?
  • edited August 2009
    huh?

Well, Jacques the monkey from DeSinge's lab in Chapter 1 looked awfully similiar to the same monkey (the thirteenth monkey of montevidoe) that witnessed the explosion of Elaine's ship from it's deck, and could be thrown away along with Guybrush (and then got to DeSinge accidentaly). I mean, there could be something importatnt tied to this monkey, considering everything that LeChuck and Elaine do with the monkeys in Chapter 2.
  • edited August 2009
never thought about that. i think we all just assumed it was just one monkey model they had in the game.

    who knows?

    besides telltale.

Even so, Jacques is a monkey. There's got to be something with the monkeys (I mean, just returning them to their natural habitat - it can't be simple enough as THAT). Plus, we do most likely return to Flotsam at some point. So there may be something boiling, who knows... besides TellTale, yes.

I think that the lair will be the "mouth everyone was talking about especially in the vodoo ladys lovers shack on roe island,(refer to the poster)
  • edited August 2009
The path to the mouth chart in the abandoned shack.. I wonder if that is some sort of map to get out of the creature??

    Thats what i was thinking.

I'm betting Morgan will join Guybrush's crew... A Guybrush+Winslow+Morgan+Murray crew would be so awesome!! Course Murray would only sit around (figuratively speaking) doing nothing and saying EVIL funny comments to everything. Or we get to carry Murray around in our inventory and he would comment our actions, kinda the same way Max does in the Sam & Max games.
And I don't know about you guys, but I think Guybrush is the kind of man that when he sees his girl getting too close to another man (like Elaine and LeChuck) would flirt with another woman (Morgan) just to make her jealous. :p

Im not so much guessing what happens in lair of the leviatian but in the whole series. I reckon guybrush dies (yes dies) in the end of the fourth episode, and that in the fifth episode (rise of the pirate god) he is re-incarnated as some sort of god to take on le chuck in a final battle royale (assuming le chuck doesnt keep up his nice-y nice-y act). Also, i reckon Morgan Le Flay is the love-child of de cava and voodoo lady (since we dont know her real name), and that elaine will fall in love with le chuck and the pox will make her as evil as him until she is cured. Its all just theory of course, but im hoping its not as predictable as this, as I would hate for a good seires like monkey island to become guessable. P.S. if any1 from telltale is reading this, though all the references to murray are fun, BRING HIM BACK!!! Monkey island isnt the same without a talking skeleton head!!!!
  • edited August 2009
If Murray does come back, will him and the parrot get on? Will they have a battle of egos? You can just hear them already .. Parrot: Scwaark I'm Guybrush Threepwood! Murray: Mwahh Ha ha ! or even the parrot will start imitating Murray??? who knows

According to the story in the first Monkey Island, LeChuck was in desperately love with Elaine before he ever died.

I find it funny how when Guybrush
decides to switch the plan on LeChuck so he can be the hero
he's actually giving LeChuck more time with her.
