I don't think she gave a reason, really...she just seemed to think that he ought to have a wedding ring on him.

Mostly I think it's set-up for a later plot point. :D Guybrush is bound to lose that wedding ring at some point (since Elaine specifically told him not to), and I'm willing to bet that it somehow ends up in Morgan's possession through a series of bizarre circumstances which will be hilariously misinterpreted by Elaine later.

Very spiteful of her to give Guybrush back that ring. Anyone who's played CMI knows just how much work it took just to get the ring. Being buried alive, almost being murdered by smugglers, falling off a cliff, reuniting two dead people in love. Much more work than just going to a jewelry store and after all that she gives it back.

But that's not the cursed ring anymore :) That was destroyed on Blood Island, remember?

no, but she only turned back when you put this one on her, so maybe it was basically a "coverup" as in shes only human when shes wearing it.

you have it backwards. she was only gold while wearing the cursed ring. her default appearance is human, not gold.

Then how do you explain the fact that she only resumed human form when the Goodsoup ring was put on her finger (as opposed to when LeChuck's ring was removed)?
  • edited August 2009
because simply removing the ring wasnt enough to turn her back into human. the cursed ring wasn't "maintaining her" as gold, but it merely turned her to gold the once. when you take of the ring, she was still gold because her "form" was now permanently golden. the ring wasnt KEEPING her golden, it had just turned her gold the once.

then guybrush needed ANOTHER special ring to turn her back.

    2 rings, 2 spells.

    1 spell per ring.

the cursed ring wasn't KEEPING her gold, and the uncursed ring isn't KEEPING her human.

Very tidy and convincing explanation! My stand corrected.

Actually, I remember when playing MI2 I was feeling pretty bad about this one - although I also thought it was pretty funny ... :)

While I'm glad people were shocked by Guybrush's hand being lopped off (as that was part of the point), it's nowhere near as gross, to me, as when you remove LeChuck's leg at the end of Monkey 2. That had bone bits and guts and things. (Admittedly represented as about 20 pixels, but still.)

    Bring on MI2:SE ... :P

There was clearly something behind this that hasn't been brought up yet. Having a wedding ring perhaps protects you from the pox or stalls it or something - hence Elaine only showing pox symptoms a while _after_ she has given Guybrush the wedding ring. Of course Guybrush also shows some symptoms of the pox after she gives him the ring, so perhaps this explanation is off. But it's pretty clear that Elaine feels it is important that Guybrush has a ring, rather than her actions being in any way spiteful.

Regarding the manatee, it seems very plausible that the "path of the mouth" is actually that: the path that the mouth takes. This is why da Cava wanted to build his submarine; it is likely that he either got stuck wherever we are going or that he chose to remain there; either way we are likely to meet him.

Am I the only one who doesn't want Lechuck to stay human? I don't want him to be that way forever.. I want the evil demonic Lechuck we'd all grown to love back. I'm guessing that Lechuck has a hidden agenda though and the pox spreading is all part of his plan.. well I hope so becasue Lechuck being the good guy and not the evil villain just doesn't feel right.

aye but it was decent enough work around given they couldn't get the proper voice actor

I beg to differ; the current voice actor is really doing a terrific job. And therefore it would have been totally unnecessary to even think of plotting in a work around for the (slight!) voice change. Telltale's up to something with human LeChuck & I definitely like where this is going.. *hops around excitedly*

I think it would be awesome if at the end of the seris, they have cutscenes during the credits, like at the end of sam and max season one, where they use la esponge grande to turn all the pirates back to normal. then at the end, there is an ominous cutscene where lechuck finds the sponge with all of his released evil voodoo and prepares to go back to the evil ghost/zombie/demon pirate we've been missing.

I think she doesn't trust Human LeChuck at all and is just playing along with him to keep an eye on what he's up to. You can tell at the end where she tells Guybrush "Trust me."

Yeah in my view that was a dead give-away.
He even says he's working on an evil voodoo spell with the monkeys... so I think we know for sure that she's just keeping an eye on him.

    Lair of the Leviathan
My prediction for Lair of the Leviathan... is it'll be pretty short. As others have said... you'll somehow follow the path of the mouth, and end up getting LSG... which I'm guessing is just a crappy sponge. This may involve Guybrush holding his breath for 10 minutes (something that chick going after him can only do for 5 minutes...)

Guybrush will then remove the pox using the sponge (a really easy task) but this will reveal the real mystery behind the story... i.e. what's LeChuck doing with those monkeys? Some evil voodoo thing...

    Trial and Execution
Believe it or not the pirates WANT to pox! Since Guybrush has removed the pox, they'll want his head! I'm also guessing that there's a power thing in this one... i.e. having a bunch of angry pirates is fine because the people have the power... but when it's only LeChuck with the power... that's dangerous. So... by removing the pox, Guybrush is guilty of stuffing everybody up. He's also done a countless number of crimes during his journey already... so IMO the trial will be textboox stuff... "he's guilty, burn him!!"

No idea what the execution will be, but he'll escape. No idea why or how, but he's good at that kinda thing. As a twist one of my thoughts is LeChuck MIGHT rescue him (out of necessity rather than good will.)

    Rise of the Pirate God
LeChuck... he's been a ghost pirate in so many ways, shapes and forms... and some idiot has somehow still managed to kill him every time!

The monkeys are going to help him turn himself into a God, and that's your finals enemy. In a seemingly hopeless situation, Guybrush will kill LeChuck in this form, ridding the Caribbean of him forever (or until somebody decides to create a new Monkey Island game.)

Oh and Elaine will be okay... sorry LeChuck; you and Elaine were never to be.

Either that manatee is part of the horde of sea creatures taking you to La Esponja Grande or the manatee is the leviathan! (meaning its 'lair' is its belly)

If that was the case they probably would have went with "Belly of the Beast" as a title. I think it's an actuall lair since most chapter titles were pretty acurate.

I have 2 wild guesses about Lair of the Leviathan.

    1) It may turn out Guybrush wasn't swallowed by the monster, so he must go back to Roe island and use the "Path of the Mouth" to track and save Winslow, the Narwall and Morgan.

    2) The Lair could be an abandoned Merfolk city, maybe located beneath the Rock of Gellato. It could be underwater, so Guybrush would have to hold his breath.

I predict that the next chapters will go more or less like this:

    Chapter 3
Guybrush, winslow and morgan are taken by the manatee to the lair of the leviathan where Morgan and Guybrush will probably meet de Cava and have to find the sea sponge.
Off course they will complete this task, probably by holding their breath for several minutes.
Maybe they have to make their own voodoo sucking sea sponge (like the ultimate insult in MI4).

    Chapter 4

Guybrush has to return to Flotsam Island because he needs to redirect the winds to Flotsam to be able to suck all of the pox of lechuck into the sea sponge.
There he will be stopped by the pirates who indeed want the pox and he will be trialed (what would explain the courthouse on Flotsam island).
However, he will be rescued by Morgan and get rid of the pox of lechuck.

    Chapter 5
Lechuck will use the sponge to return to the evil ghost/zombie/demon pirate we all love and Guybrush has to kick butt once again. (perhaps by making another sea sponge with items he finds on the island)

    This is only speculaton though

I hadn't thought about the "reverting the winds towards floatsam to "concentrate" the whole pox cloud in one place" thing, but it makes a lot of sense...
Also, it could be very interesting to see the rather bland floatsam folks having gained some pireteyness this time ;)

I think that Guybrush and Morgan will hook up, but Guy wil be unsure until he finds out that Elaine and LeChuck are hooking up too. Then, in the end, we find out the evil LeChuck masterplan (THERE HAS TO BE AN EVIL MASTERPLAN), Guy wants her love back, but after defeating LeChuck, Elaine says that they're not close ase they were when they met and they divorce. And maybe Guy and Morgan have wild sex in the sunset...err...sail in the sunset.

But yeah, from seeing many manatees in this game, I know what they look like. And leviathan in legend is a huge water SNAKE! *looks at the people on the forum* Yeah a SNAKE. Get it in your head guys!

A leviathan is not specifically a snake at all, just a (monstrously) large, ambiguous sea creature of some kind... A giant sea-snake would be a leviathan, but so would an enormous whale...or even a manatee?
  • edited September 2009
yes, the leviathan is described in religious texts as being many different things, a snake, a fish, something with seven heads even.. the only common theme is something huge that lives in the sea.
  • edited September 2009
Grossman said that they (Guybrush, Morgan & Winslow)
would not be in the giant manatee for the entire chapter
    and that
there will be other people inside the manatee

What about Grandpa Marley? He's been in almost all of the games to date, and this would be the kind of place he'd show up. Admittedly he's gotten his memory back though, but another series of events has probably occured since then meaning he got swallowed by the manatee.
