Wow, he really looks like Jake Gyllenhaal there.
Just look at the eyes! :p

V3 is my favourite too, it fits with the SoMI:SE design as well as the designs from Curse onwards.

For anyone using Firefox or Opera, the colors in the last Guybrush concept image may be showing up incorrectly due to some bug in how the LucasArts guys saved the file.

Here is a version with somewhat more proper colors (now corrected by LucasArts!):
    gb_v3.jpg

Notice too that this version has the Original MI2 Guybrush sprite in pretty much its actual colors. Whereas viewing the concept art in Firefox or Opera shows the "Reference" GB sprite as oddly over-saturated, like this:

    Thank you!
    I absolutely love it!!!

If the rest of the game looked like CMI, I'd have no problem with Guybrush looking like this. Same if Tales was a 2D game too, I think Guybrush would look great this way.

but he looks too old in V3 if you ask me...

    Don't like it.

    I have to agree.

He looks a bit too 'matured.' To be fair though it's gotta be tricky to give Guybrush a short beard and have him not look older than he did in Curse...

'cause the Guybrush in Curse doesn't look like he could grow a beard even if his life depended on it.
  • edited May 2010
while I like it, he does look older in the face... older than he looks in curse..so that would be odd.
  • edited May 2010
To be fair, I also think it's the eyes, modern Guybrush has Blue Eyes, he didn't in Curse, just normal style Cartoon eyes, so even the eye colour makes him look a bit more dignified, I have to say though, I DO prefer this one a lot more to the final, ever since the first SE they've tried to blend Guybrush together with his taller form from Curse onwards, so why not just go all out like this? Funnily enough, what I like about this one is that it matches the SE version to, the side view looks like he has the same shavings as the MI1 SE version but is styled better.

edit: And here's my somewhat zombiefied looking version (NOTE: I AM TERRIBLE AT PHOTO EDITING!)

    V3 looks great.
And yeah, better than the "final"...
  • edited May 2010
I preferred V1 actually, but with a different face. I didn't really like the face.

I like V3 a lot. I always interpreted his LR sprite as being older like that

Just thought I'd post this here - they apparently got Wally's voice actor back for the special edition. I was looking at his wikipedia page (for some reason) and found that he was also the guy who narrated the codex in Mass Effect... versatile or what?

I always laughed at MGS3, he plays Colonel Volgin in that game, one of the main bad guys and he's just worlds different from Wally but in my mind I still imagine him as Wally.

  • Sounds like Craig Derrick is really interested in continuing this special edition work, and he says he's got his eyes on Maniac Mansion. He also said he'd like to change it up to make it a little more challenging for the old fans. As far as Grim Fandango, he said that it doesn't make as much sense to do a special edition, but there might be some things you could do with it if it were ever re-released. I realize he isn't' the guy who makes decisions to green light these remakes for Lucas Arts, but it's at least nice to hear about his love for these games.

By the way, has anybody heard who's going to fill Darrel Rodriguez's shoes at Lucas Arts? I'm still disappointed with his departure and I'd like to know more about that situation, but I'm sure more info will come to light with time.

I don't think anyone posted this screen of Dave, Ron, and Tim commenting on the game as cartoonish silhouettes in the foreground.

I liked V1, but not V3. V3 looks like Patrick Stewart but not Guybrush Threepwood.

Lucasarts original concept on the left and an edit on the right....

I toned down the red in his nose and cheeks and shortened his head a little and tamed his bangs a little. Whomever did this was obviously inspired by Ryan Jone's Guybrush concept they even seem to have tried copying the skin tone flushed cheeks and nose and those are definitely the same boots

V4 looks like a kid, a smug kid at that, it actually makes me want V3 even more, screw the age difference, beards CAN make people look older after all.
  • edited May 2010
Vfinal model is my fav ^^
  • edited May 2010
the last one looks most like the original sprite but it wouldnt fit in with the way Guybrush looks in the other games.
  • edited May 2010
    Don't like V4.

    On to V5.
  • edited May 2010
I think V4 is the first one I absolutely hated... its so amateur looking....
  • edited May 2010
Again, here is V4 with color correction *now properly done by LucasArts!* for Firefox/Opera people:
    gb_v4.jpg
  • edited May 2010
I like V4 as a concept, although the angle of the face looks pretty wonky.

Also weird that they went through all these concepts and still seemed to end up with something that looks so similar to the first SE's model

Thank you ATMachine, that was driving me crazy, haven't gotten around to putting FF on this comp yet.

And, yeah... Amatuer is an understatement. It looks like a 12 year old drew the face... What's up with that?!
  • edited May 2010
Looks like a 3D model to me.

    ...You're right! Weird..
  • edited May 2010
It's just concept art. Looks like a mishmash of 3D and photoshop drawing on that one; just experimenting to find the right look. If they had gone with that design I'm sure they would have ironed the kinks out before they finished.

Yeah, I like everything but the head. The stance, the clothing, etc - good. The head - it's strange, it doesn't look like Guybrush, and it just overall sucks.
  • edited May 2010
Considering v4 looks rough and unfinished, it was likely just a quick mock up. Calm down. It's not like they're actually using this one.
  • edited May 2010
V4 looks decent. better than V1, but not V3 or V2. and still better than the finished product. so far, the finished product, ironically, is the worst, imho.
  • edited May 2010
V3 reminds me of Alan Ruck.

    ANNNNND LAST:

  • edited May 2010
I don't know why, the finished one looked to me like he was wearing glasses, even from the first screenshot I saw.
  • edited May 2010
    Reflection fail.

    Anyways...
  • edited May 2010
Agh, why do they always seem to go for one of the ugliest ones. I'd go with V3 or V4, but not the last one.
Then again, I'll probably get used to him after playing the game for a while.
It just annoys me a little that they always seem to end up with one of the worst ones.

They should have showed us this when they were still working on it, to at least get a pointer to what the fans wanted.
  • edited May 2010
I like this one, he looks younger, his beard is less in your face and his stance is correct. Although his eyes make him look tired, and his left hand is frekishly long and thin
  • edited May 2010
I think V5 rocks he looks young with a crap beard tomake him look old somthing mi 2 original tryed to sugest but the sprite made him look like a mature
