Going through some old disks tonight and I find a some files I last accessed over 15 years ago, and that's the most recent stuff. They're documents in the old Microsoft Works .wps format but luckily they weren't too hard to open, just had to clear out a load of junk characters (I guess they would have meant something to Works but not to Word).

So I find a story that I wrote for an English assignment back in 3rd or 4th year of secondary school, so around 1994/95 but I remember starting it a couple of years before that because I remember that I was struggling with the assignment and with time running out before it had to be handed in I remembered this story I had been working. After a lot of polishing up and actually finishing it it got me a good to decent mark (can't remember how well it did exactly, but it was good enough at least).

There's also a couple of small story fragments, bits of beginnings that never amounted to anything. The biggest fragments remaining are actually attempts to continue the Red Dwarf books Backwards & Last Human (the Backwards continuation is a little more developed but only just past a prologue, but the Last Human one feels better written).

Looking back at this stuff is a little cringe inducing, as it's pretty clear that I don't really have a talent for narrative writing. But that is based on writing I did from the ages of 13 to 18 so not fully conclusive, granted.

I might post some of it, though the only real postable stuff is from the short story I wrote for the English assignment but parts of it make my toes curl. Part 1 especially and the first chapter and a bit of part 2, but that stuff is from when I was around 12 or 13 whereas the rest of it is from when I was at least a year, maybe two years older. Like that makes any difference really.

I think I've forgotten what the point of this post was a long time ago, so best just to end it now.

Why is it that we can't discuss potential projects such as the (potentially) new site/forum layout?

Speaking for myself, I like not being kept in the dark about what Telltale is up to. I mean, sheesh... they're notorious for keeping extremely quiet about projects until they're almost done, such that it's hard to tell if things are being done at all (eg. King's Quest).

I really would like to talk about what's going on behind the scenes, and it bothers me that we aren't supposed to know about it.

I just like Telltale, and it's hard to get behind or involved community-wise in what the company is up to if no one tells us what the heck is going on.

    It's like that old ditty.

    Are you lonesome tonight?
    Is your kitchen a sight?
Is your wardrobe all rundown and bare?
    Is your lipstick all smeared?
    Are your stockings not sheer?

    Do they make your legs...
    Show all your hair?
Do the tears on your pillow...
    Roll down as you turn?
Do they short out the blanket
    And make the sheets burn?

Is your heart filled with pain?
    Will you come back again?
Shop at Telltale and love me tonight.

@Vain: Thanks. I hate everything I draw, so I can't tell when I draw well.

Oh of course you can, as much as you like. But I don't think that people who've seen the work in progress should comment and supply behind the scenes info. It would just be completely unfair!

Fact is, there's something there, but mods STILL can't really know if it launches next month or, say, in 2014. Obviously not even Dan knows. So we'd comment on something that could still undergo drastic changes. Bringing info or even judgement out there, I think it's wrong right now.

Seriously, it's a good thing that this mostly is work under the hood. As I understand it, it isn't even meant to be under the hood for the whole duration of its development stage.

It's good. But I demand that you be excellent one day, young man.

    Secret:
You will possibly still hate everything you draw when you've reached that point. It's the fate of many brilliant artists.

I've been thinking about my future and I almost put up a huge post here about it before I remembered that I have a blog where I can put all that crap so that's what I did. Just as well really as it would have been huge and there is also the possibility that I would have lost everything that I had typed into here as it does that sometimes when the reply page has been open for a length of time.

I should use my blog more often really, I mean I started it nearly 19 months ago and I've just added my 9th post. So that's the speedy rate of about one every two and a bit months. Actually that's probably a decent rate for sometimes random stream of conciousness type style of writing. I do so like to go of on a tangent sometimes.

Is there something specific you're talking about, like the new website? I just updated Tjibbe's thread.

I'm happy to share whatever I can about the stuff Telltale's working on... just sometimes it's kind of contractually required that we don't talk about things we're not supposed to yet. :)

It will out from under the hood pretty soon! Like I posted in Tjibbe's thread, the public beta is currently slated for Thursday 7th Feb. An updated version will replace what's there at the moment. Comments and feedback are of course very welcome (that's what beta tests are for!), but they're probably more useful when folks can actually interact with the new site.

A movie about the Slender Man is being made. It’s called “Entity,” and it’s coming out in July.

Just finished getting a pork roast in the crock pot for pulled pork later today. This had better turn out awesome, because I'm waking up in 5 1/2 hours. 4 1/2 if my dad ignores the note on my door.

Right, because there haven't been about a hundred million short films on YouTube that have featured Slenderman in the exact same way this movie is going to.

Hollywood, leave the indie shlock horror to the internet, okay?

Exploration can be fun, but when you have to constantly switch between three characters and travel back over old ground - often multiple times if you’re finding a puzzle confusing - it soon becomes labourious. On consoles this can ostensibly be lessened with the ability to play cooperatively, or so I hear. On PC (our review platform) there is no co-op option. Which is strange, because there is a “Drop Player” option in the pause menu - which, incidentally, removes the option to “Save and Quit” if you press it ... The Cave on PC is an unprofessional and inferior product.

    Not a flattering Cave review.

I don't really care about the new version of the site, but it feels like Telltale's been in complete radio silence mode for anything that isn't the Walking Dead since... well... forever.

Aside from announcing Fables and Kings Quest a thousand years ago, nobody seems to have any idea what to expect, uh, ever. At least give us a tease one in a while!

Even though I'm all for teases, I think partial nudity would be pushing their site rules.

It certainly has better graphics than 8 pages. But they are perfect examples of tense horror games, and among the best of the genre of survival/psychological horror games.

Is Slenderman free for public use then?

The game? No, it’s going to be downloadable for, like, fifteen bucks. It’s apparently supposed to be a full-on video game, unlike the others.

I mean the character can anyone use him or is it copyrighted?

IMO, using Slenderman outside its intended ARGs made him less creepy and / or menacing.

8 pages just stops being scary after the first time you play it because nothing happens.
