Obviously the US will win. We've tied 1-1 with the UK, and if you talk to them about it or read their tabloids it's like they might as well have lost, and I'm pretty sure that's worth extra points.

When I was in France, I always hoped they'd lose as fast as possible so I could sleep at night :p

Yeah I was so angry after that match. I think Irish football fans will never let it down LOL

England not the UK. Scots and Welsh have their own teams and wouldnt be happy getting their teams mixed up.:p The USA goal was so funny but I felt bad for the keeper, the English newspapers will never let him live it down. I hope the USA do well, they have some good players and I have them in a world cup sweepstake in work :)

England is football-mad, so it's mandatory for me to be interested in this. The boys at work educate me about the offside rule and suchlike (they are exceedingly patient with me).

I hope England stay in it for a while (because their matches mean good parties here!), but of course my loyalty lies with the Aussies.

Actually France shouldn't be at this world cup due to the cheating which kicked out Ireland.

I hope they don't, so they close once and for all the stupid Maradona Church. No, really, they have, like, the worst Argentinian Team since the start of the history of Argentinian Teams. If they needed the Chilean Team won a match so they can clasificate, forget it!

This is somewhat stupid, and it's, but, I hope Spain doesn't clasificate to second round, so they will stop to name their Team "La Roja", because, We did it first!

    Nah...

No, that means they consider the US as a B-Grade Team and they can't lose againt a B-Grade team, ya' know? It's not worth extra points for the US, is worth less points for them.

Ok, the only actual thing I know about the World Cup is the Chilean Team, compared to the rest, is bad, but we hope they get to the 2nd Round ^^! And Bielsa is downright crazy.

I would only like to see Argentina win because I really like Lionel Messi. But Argentines don’t even like him because he left when he was 13 for Spain. They call him The Catalan because he went to Barcelona. Then again I don’t know anyone from Argentina, so I don’t have to listen the their fans:p

    I HAVE FURY!

Well as someone pointed out, England isn't the UK, so try and get it right. As a Scotsman, it would be a crime to say I supported England, but I don't anyway so it doesn't matter.

It's not some sort of petty reason like rivalry or because Scotland isn't in it, it's because of the English commentators and press and their god. damn. arrogance. They already act like they are in the final, the write off teams (like USA) and they don't stop going on about '66. Yes, we get it, you won, congratulations, now shut up about it seriously.

I hear you man! I don’t think I would mind as much if it wasn’t for the commentators and press but also 800 years of oppression doesn’t help:rolleyes: It really gets on my nerves. All I have to say is USA USA USA!!! I hope they win the group

I remain partial to Australia. And if they fail, New Zealand will get far I'm sure.

Well, France keeps going about 98 -_-'. It's more recent but still, to hear them they're the champions of the world and have always been and always will be. Come on!

I know. According to Justin Beiber you don't use the word "German" in America so expecting you to get non American countries right might be asking too much :P

    I hate sports.

The thing that pisses me off isn't really the noise, tho, just the fact that suddenly it seems like NOTHING else is happening in the world but the stupid game.

I can't get anyone to do anything for the next few weeks unless it involves a pub and a plasma TV.

Oh yeah, that's annoying too. And every time someone talks to you at school, work, or everywhere you start a conversation even with a stranger, that's what they talk about. At first I'm always "Mmh? What?" because I don't follow sports but pretty soon, without watching anything and while trying to avoid talking about it, I know who did what when and when the next game is and so on.

Same here, believe it or not. But, anyway, I learned a lot of time ago is better not avoid it and try to follow the conversation.

Thank godness here the matches are so early you can get the people do something different after the matches are over. The problem is going to be pretty much celebrate the match. Even is not Chile's.

I've never liked the World Cup. Now I truly hate it because of Italy winning it last time. I wouldn't care so much, but it was the first night of my holiday in Venice and I was jet lagged and the Italians just wouldn't stop celebrating... it was an absolute nightmare, so I really hope England doesn't win or I might have to go through that sort of thing again.

England never win so no worries mate! Though yesterday around my area was pretty bad, bunch of drunk fans outside ma window shouting about how England is the best and how they hate the US... Leiscester is a lovely town ;D

To be honest I'm more happy about Super Mario Galaxy 2 being released, GO YOSHI!

Anyway, was anyone wathcing the game on ITVHD? They crashed at the worst moment possible!
It was actually quite funny at the time!

This. Only replace "France" with "England". Actually, I'm already in England, so remove that clause altogether and replace "hoped" with "hope", "they'd" with "England will" and "could" with "can".

    Uh, this.

This is the first time in ... more than a decade, actually, that I'm not watching the World Cup. I just can't be bothered to get cable again, so I'm only following through the FIFA site. I don't know why; the American team pisses me off every year with their attitude. They're always so serious and focused on winning even though they're barely capable of getting to the second round so they're absolutely no fun to watch. It's like they have no love of the sport or pride in competing. You watch a team like Brazil where the players are like grace personified, or France under Zidane which was a well-oiled machine. Then you see USA play ... -_-'

Well, New Zealand has made it for the 2nd time ever (first time was 1982) so it's all very exciting even though nobody expects them to get past the current pool round.

And it doesn't consume us here the way the Rugby World Cup does (because we at least have a shot at winning that, even though we always crash out).

Soccer games are on between about 11:30pm and 7:00am, so it doesn't really interfere with daily life, except some people may be a little more tired than usual due to getting a couple of hours less sleep than normal.

The TVN (The Chilean National TV Station) is transmiting the matches online from their site. Watch if you dare. Because one of the guys who comments apparently is not talking proper "Chilean Spanish".

I don't know any site in English which transmites the thing. I got the TVN one with the tweets of my friends ^^!

Yay! Thanks Ginny! I'll try not to let his horribly un-Chilean accent from bothering me! Actually, for ESPN in America in English only one announcer is even American. The other is an Irish guy, and he's the only one who knows what he's doing. The American guy never shuts up and is constantly spouting random facts that haven't a thing to do with the match. It's like, "Give me the play; that's your job; I don't care that the ref is handling his 20th match."

Edit: Looks like ESPN is offering live streaming, too! Aaand ... New Zealand is playing at 4 in the morning ...

I think Deutschland made a good game yesterday, looking forward to the next ones. We could play against England in the eighth or fourth final, right? Oh please let it be a classic penalty shootout then! :O)

It's just that these Vuvuzelas get on my nerves and i quite don't understand why they are allowed at all, too loud, distracting noise, no fan feedback, they seem to be bad for the game as well as it prevents communication and stresses some players, they have no african tradition, just some from america imported rubbish. I also don't understand why at least the TV stations don't filter that noise out on their own.

I enjoy reading through the foreign press about certain games, as it's interesting to see how different views sometimes can be.

The world cup four years ago here was great. All those foreign people and colours. We had some nice convivial gatherings with Brazilian and Argentinian in the city, also when they lost their games.

All the Man of the Match awards are being voted for online. In the England game there was a push to get Green voted man of the match, didn't pull it off sadly :D

I can't say I'm much of a soccer fan, which is probably a good thing as Australia aren't looking promising at the moment.
