well as paraguay have been knocked out by Spain, that leaves only Germany and Holland, who in truth have played the best football out of any of the teams in this world cup (credit goes to Brazil aswell, they too have put in some brilliant showings)

(...) What the heck am I posting here? I watched both games yesterday, drank no alcohol and should now that Paraguay is now out...that happens if rainy Germany's suddenly suffering from a heat wave. *lol*

So let it be Germany vs Holland or Uruguay vs Spain. :D

    Viva Hollandia!

    Yeah, I couldn't help it.

Oh man. You guys should see what I see when I look out of my window. Just one crazy happy sea of people. There's even some fireworks. I wonder how insane it will get if we win the last match. Which we will.

    The lion roars. Oh yeah.

So what? The best teams are going to win it not matter from where they are.

I promise you guys we'll win. It will be the first time in history that the Dutch win the World Cup. It's only the third time we make the finals, and the first time during my lifetime (the first two times being in '74 and '78). Normally I don't give a crap about football, but the World Cup is just so much fun. Especially when you watch it in a crowd composed of different nationalities. And, of course, when you're winning.

We can be quite grumpy as a nation, but last night was just one big mountain of joy. Winning that cup will mean a second baby boom for sure.

Spanish/German friends: It's time to get nervous. Like Vincent van Gogh said: Orange is the colour of insanity.

¡A por ellos, oé! ¡A por ellos, oé!

    SPAIN IS IN THE FINAL!!!!!
  • edited July 2010
Aw, dammit. Poor germans. Why did Mueller have to get that yellow card? I guess the game would have been quite different if he'd been on the field.

Suro is sad. Damn Spain. :(
  • edited July 2010
Spain won (again) - fair and square! We would only have made it with a LOT of luck, and entering the finale just because you were damn lucky isn't my idea of qualifying for it. ;)

    Congratulations, Spain. You deserved it.

Also, your doom is at hand.

Wow, my completely uneducated early prediction is looking pretty good now! Spain in the final. I am a soothsayer. :D

Has anyone else heard of the 'phsychic octopus'? My friend told me about what he had heard so I just looked it up. It turns out he's an octopus called Paul that is given two boxes with a mussel inside each. These two boxes have the flags of whomever's playing in the world cup match next on them. Whichever the octopus opens and gets the mussel from is the team that is going to win. So far, everything he has predicted has been right. Weird, huh?! Anyway, just thought I'd share, sorry if it's been mentioned before.

I just heard about that today. Paul the Octopus is pretty awesome. I hope he carries on his correct-ness... um, streak for the rest of the matches. XD

I hope that the guy who plants the mussels don't mess with the, um, mussels. That would make musselguy the hero and not Paul the octopus.

It's definitely been an interesting world cup, probably not the spectacle a lot of people were expecting but I've enjoyed it immensely (apart from watching England, all 4 matches were pretty much terrible). And we've got a guaranteed first time winner on Sunday which is always nice.

What a horrible game that just was.
  • edited July 2010
Yeah, I was glad Germany wasn't part of it. I thought the Dutchies were called "Oranjes" and not "Yellowjes"?

We had a much nicer game yesterday.

Wow.... can't wait to see all the depressed people tomorrow!

Congratulations, and a well earned win! I'm so glad Netherlands didn't win with the kind of "football" they "played".
  • edited July 2010
Like Simon Pegg said on his Twitter, we/they played more like the whole game was directed by Zack Snyder, 300 style

Congrats to Spain, and congrats to me for my Nostradamus-like talents of prescience! Too bad I don't gamble.

Congratulations Spain, and to Paul for predicting correctly who wins! XD
  • edited July 2010
Yeah, we lost, but we deserved it. They totally forgot what the World Cup is all about. I wanted to win by being the best, not by actually trying to kill our opponents. Strictly speaking, going by the rules that last goal shouldn't have been counted, but yeah, we sort of deserved it.

Congratulations Spain. I'm glad we didn't win that one (although we missed out on one hell of a party).
  • edited July 2010
Spain's goal shouldn't have counted? Lol. There was nothing wrong with it.

I still can't get over that Spain player drop kicking the guy from Netherlands. It was crazy.
  • edited July 2010
I think he means that it shouldn't have counted because the Netherlands should have had a corner half a minute prior to the goal. The Netherlands was pretty lucky to finish the game with more than 8 players on the field though. That being said, Spain deserved at least a couple of yellow cards more than they got.

Spain definitely deserved to win that match. Overall, the Netherlands impressed me a whole lot more than Spain during the World Cup. Just wish they would have played a better last match. Looked like half of the team suddenly was a van Bommel there.

Talking about Netherlands, why are their uniforms orange?
  • edited July 2010
Orange is the colour associated with the Dutch royal family, dating back to the origins of the kingdom in the Principality of Orange. Orange banners are used (in addition to the national flags) at festivities in the Netherlands that are related to the royal family (e.g. Queen's day, birth of a new prince), and orange is now used as some sort of a national colour in various other events, such as sport matches. For football fans it probably has the advantage that it's more recognizable than the red-white-and-blue tricolour national flag.

By the way, the Dutch away-shirts (that they wear when the home team plays with colours too similar to that of their home-shirt) are based on the national flag instead: white with red and blue stripes. ;)

I was in Holland when they played Uruguay, it was a crazy night, everyone was going bonkers! Left on the Sat though so I didn't get to see a pile of sad Dutch people after Sundays result thankfully

My dad thought that maybe was the color of the Royal Family, but, since I know almost nothing about Royalty, I prefer just come here and ask.

    Thanks you ^^!
