PSN Hack.

edited June 2011 in General Chat
The PSN hackers stole everyone's Email, Adress, D.O.B, Passwords, PSN Shoping history and may have stolen credit card info. No one seems to know if hackers have that yet though.

Hey and it only took them a week for any information, way to go SONY!
  • edited April 2011
It is a little ridiculous.. I'm thinking from now on PSN will not be getting my card number anymore... It will be strictly PSNetwork cards from here on out... Luckily I created an email just for PSN.. and I didn't keep my card number stored on my profile.. but if they are able to see the numbers from previous transactions they have it.... No activity on my end from this .... I do miss watching netflix on there though.

I wonder if I have to change my telltalegames password?
  • edited April 2011
Has everyones info been taken or just lots of peoples?
  • edited April 2011
I personally delete all CC info as soon as i've used it, so hopefully if they DID access any CC info they didn't access the main servers transaction records... i'd be safe then... I AM a little worried though, hopefully the fact that they waited a week to tell us anything means that it's not a huge leak and that only a few profiles got info leaked =(

Hell it don't matter if its one or one million they should have informed us of any potential attack on our details as soon as it happend.

I agree, it's important to all of us.

Prison is too good for the scum that did this.
  • edited April 2011
I worried about it too. I used my card to buy most of the stuff off the PSN :(

And its not like we can go in and change everything right now. I wanted to go in and remove my card information but you can't because you have to be signed in to do that.

Problem with that is that they keep your CC info when you purchase stuff. Unless that info from their previous server is being cleaned out they'll still have it in their servers.

Also you can watch Netflix on your PS3 still. Just try to login 3-4 times and Netflix will load after the 4th "Server is down for maintence".

actually, some people are NOT able to connect to netflix anymore (I'm one of them), I was able to connect the first 2-3 days without a problem, but now It keeps asking me to load the PSN when I actually start a program, then when i hit ok, and then hit cancel once it fails it gives me a message saying that netflix failed to load the video because I'm required to be connected to the PSN...
  • edited April 2011
Well that sucks. I can still connect.

I used to be the same until kotaku was hacked. Then I upgraded my password on all payment sites to a more complex one, with variations on a root password. Trouble is, I can't remember whether my PSN account uses the root password or my old one (I didn't update it, but I was using that password on a few sites already).

Is this going to be the end of Sony? I don't think this is overacting cos its worldwide outrage if card details have been stolen it could lead to possble lawsuits and extreme mistrust in Sony. Could all these be nails in its coffin.

It's not just the PSN Network. GameFAQs is shut down for maintenance as well! Do you have any idea when the website will be back on? :(

It's working fine for me.
  • edited April 2011
Well, I can see that GameFAQs' website came back up about an hour ago, so the maintenance is done.

The funny part is that before I even opened the link, the theme of "Still Alive" was already rolling into my head.

Its the millions of people who's info was stolen who have been most effected.

I doubt you need to worry, Anonymous did this to get back at Sony for forcing Georges ISP to give up all the IP's of people who had visited the site, I think you CC details are fairly safe and the backlash against Sony because of the breach should be epic.

So my original statement stands. Serves them right, hope they burn.

Anonymous said they didnt do it and although I don't just belive there word on it but this is a global scandal and Id think they would boast about it if it was them.

Arrgh repost since the first one failed to show up.

Can't be arsed to retype the whole thing so heres the short version.

Don't worry because if any CC numbers do get used Sony will be sued into oblivion (which has already started) and the money will have to be paid back one way or another. Shit may hit the fan for a while but Sony will have to remunerate any monies actually lost so it's all good in the end.

Just a pain in the arse changing all those passwords...

Call me crazy but I don't want Sony to die cos of this. I know they should have toild us much sooner and Im not standing up for them this is purly me liking the playstation system and even PSN (before the hack scandle :P) I will never use my card on it but id still rather use it not pay monthly on Xbox XP I know if this is the end of Sony they only have them selfs (and the hacker) to blame but it would be a shame to see all the history Sony has had to die here on such a sour note.

Sony will be fine in the end, They may take a good kicking but they'll survive. And hopefully they'll learn something from the experience...

Somebody's never actually read their PSN terms of service agreement.

I was referring to the way they treated George Hotz. Not having secure servers is another issue altogether.

If anyones money is stolen from hackers they will have to get the money from there bank not PSN my bank told me they will remberse it if my moneys stolen.

    Since I don't own a PS3 or a PSN account...
  • edited April 2011
Well good thing then, because anyone who agreed to their PSN agreement also agreed that Sony is not liable for any money lost due to an external attack. Of course, I'm sure that won't stop some people from trying to sue. But coolsome is right, it's going to be the banks, if anybody, that have to reimburse users, not Sony.
