I'm...not sure what Charlie Sheen has to do with Star Wars?

IT doesn't, I started to go off topic a little too far and then it went on from there. I apologize. I was commenting on the possibility that George Lucas is full of vanity as he has created the most famous franchise ever.

C'mon guys, you should know that doodo! is doing us a favour by trying to distract us from the topic at hand! :p

Seriously, we're over 500 posts into this thread. Someone just make the comparison to Hitler and end this thing already.

I'm beginning to believe that the only way the Star Wars OOT will be properly remastered and/or preserved is when George Lucas is dead.

He has a son though, so anything goes...

    George Lucas, last week.
You dudes still arguing about this?

Its been over 2 weeks since I was last on this forum.
I was expecting this thread at least to have sunk down a few pages, but yet from the looks of it the fires of passion still burn on.

Well my opinion still stands at least. :D

To my credit, I didn't even start reading this thread until 5 days ago, much less start posting in it.

Heh, maybe it'll get turned into a forum game "who can think of the most imaginative insults for George Lucas".

Oooh, oooh, lemme play this game too! I'll go into every single thread with more than, oh, 15 pages or so and post "lol u guise still talking about this that's dumb lololololol" and see how well that goes over.

    Okay...

George Lucas; more like... Porge Mucas! Heh, yeah.

What?! It's an appropriate insult considering it's about the same level of name giving that Lucas applies to his scripts. Dexter Jetster, the Rancor and Salacious Crumb indeed!

Its not that its dumb, its just that its a little odd that this particular thread out of all the other regular threads is still going, when mostly its the same people commenting within it.

From what I've followed in the thread, all that can be said about has pretty much already been said.

(i.e. That George Lucas is a douche, but has, for some reason, uncontested creative rights over the original movies, and that its likely that though the original master may not be around, good quality copies could still be around somewhere, and that possibly one day they may be made available, though its unlikely as long as Mr. Lucas has his fingers in the pie as it were, especially since he seems adamant on distributing a clearly inferior (by todays standards) quality version on DVD, while pushing his altered versions (which he keeps altering in every new version) on the newer formats)

I'm just suprised that it hasn't been closed yet thats all.

Let's not fight, what does it solve? Peace everyone! GO DIE IN A HOLE LUCAS , YOU PIG!!!!

I'm kidding it was a joke, peace Lucas.

Actually this inaccurate. All previous DVD releases of the films are now out of print and the 2006 release with the "bonus feature" laserdisc masters is getting kind of rare and pricey to acquire.

Because no one has sufficiently compared Lucas to Hitler and those who buy his terrible "updates" to a stupid flock of worthless sheep.

Oh wait. I just did... oops.

    Are you happy now? :D

And yet I saw a (used) copy of each at Vintage Stock not that long ago.

Then again, it's the only copy I've seen in a while (aside from my own.)

If you see them out in the wild I highly recommend snatching them up. Check out the prices for the 2008 re-release on Amazon and ebay.

It's almost as if people are willing to pay more for the unedited movies! But that can't be right, sales numbers have clearly shown that everyone ever prefers the updates, right?!

Wait, they released the theatrical editions on DVD? I was under the impression that it was just VHS and that was it.

I suppose you could extrapolate from that that the originals will be coming at some point. Maybe as extras on the 3D blu-ray release. Maybe they'll offer them as digital downloads with them to discourage the second-hand market.

Presenting the Star wars rap! I can't believe it's been so many years since I first saw that.

Also, I watched the clip with the CGI Yoda in the phantom menace. Whilst I don't begrudge them for doing it, I don't think they quite got the facial expressions right. I must admit I found it a little hard to let go of my feelings. I would make a poor Jedi...

The original versions were released as 'bonus material' on the DVD set for the original trilogy. They're shoddy transfers from an early 90's laserdisc release, they don't even look as good as final VHS release, let alone as good as you'd expect. And the excuse given as to why they had to use a transfer from laserdisc is that they somehow managed to alter all the original negatives when they made the special editions.

Lucas has made it abundantly clear that despite their status as classics, he considers the original theatrical versions of the original trilogy to be unfinished and therefore inferior. I think the only reason he tolerates the existence of the original trilogy is because he'd rather spend his time "fixing" it or smashing copies of the Holiday Special.

Lucas isn't a Sith, despite what some of you may say. He's just a foolish old man who has lost touch with what made him great.

There's a sequel (of sorts) by the same guys, but I can't watch it in the UK.

EDIT: Here's the best UK fans are gonna get.

    EDIT2: Here's some more.

Wow, I thought it was a joke at first! They have Yoda, Vader, Threepio, and a very bad Han Solo impersonation.

It's too bad they couldn't get Majel Barrett to lend her voice before she died.
  • edited September 2011
Considering how many lines she's recorded for the Enterprise computer over the years, I think it'd still be possible.

It's obvious Lucas has a lot of respect for the original trilogy

Anyone who defends Lucas' decision not to restore the original edits needs to read the above link. You quite simply can NOT defend these actions and if you do, quite frankly, you're an idiot and most certainly not a true fan of film and the arts.

Someone really needs to take his power away from him... and while they're at it, his fucking CGI rendering machines as well. The man built his "empire" by riding the talented coat tails of the likes of Gary Kurtz and John Williams, he doesn't deserve to wield the control which he posses. Fuck George Lucas.

After reading that article, I'm incredibly happy that I never purchased the Star Wars movies on DVD or Blu-Ray. I'm through with Lucas the Hutt and his moronic ways.
