Why? Just because it wasn't in the original movie. That's why.

Because it sucks, that's why. The soundtrack is one of the big key deciding factors that add up to my liking of a movie. George ruined two of my favourite musical pieces in Jedi by removing that song and the ending song before the credits. They were catchy. I looked forward to those moments. Now they're replaced by...rubbish. Yeah yeah, different tastes and all that, but that's the memories I have of it when I was younger. I enjoyed those pieces. Now they're gone.

On a happier note, I've discovered an excellent fanmade creation called the Star Wars Hyperspace Edition. For those that are disappointed with the SE releases, give it a Google. That combined with the versions by Adywan alleviates much of my qualms on the whole matter.

    Now they're gone.
Aren't they on the soundtrack still?
  • edited September 2011
They're not in the movie. Half the experience in enjoying it is in the movie. Many times the movie soundtrack mixes and arrangements are very different from the ones in the actual movie as well.

Close, but no cigar - it's Hyperspace Collection, not Edition. Just in case anyone else (like me) is interested in these. I very much appreciate you mentioning these, thanks!

EDIT: This is possibly the greatest translation ever.

Meh, the DVD of the Lion King (the best movie ever IMO) also changed a musical scene. I prefer the original, but not making that big a fuss. Getting the blu-ray when it comes out later this year...

I doubt these are the only 2 classics. But SW-fans sure are more vocal...

actually it doesn't I saw it last in 2004. After that I always skipped it. :D
As I posted: a perfect "Big Lipped Alligator Moment".

We shouldn't have to skip it. We should be able to watch the good original version.

    Wait, what changed?

    Wait, what changed?
The DVD of The Lion King contained a completely optional additional musical scene, originally cut from the film but now animated from original storyboards. The voices were recorded during the original production of the film so it doesn't sound or look off, but the pacing crawls to a halt and the song doesn't really add much to the narrative, so it pretty much belongs cut. It's a similar thing to what they did with "Human Again" in Beauty and the Beast, where another cut song(that became really popular when it was kept in the Broadway play) was reinstated into the film. For both releases, you can watch the original cut or the new one with the additional footage.

I'm glad they didn't do that with "Proud of Your Boy" in Aladdin, though that would have completely changed the story anyway.

Except of course translated versions, which weren't.
Also the scene replaces some content where mufasa learns simba to hunt, which is thus missing from the DVD version.

And I don't think I saw any option to turn it on or off, it was just there. Were is this "choice"???

EDIT: Just found it. Why the heck didn't I noticed this earlier? Then again I never visit "set-up" as it automatically sets it right for me. Hence I didn't even knew about audio-commentary either... Damn.

I have come to realize one thing. This COULD be a lot, LOT worse. At least Lucas still disavows the Holiday Special.

Whoop-tee-flippin-do. As one of my friends put it, they put all this build-up, all this back story into this mysterious Boba Fett, and it all culminates in one moment: "Boba Fett? Boba Fett?! Where?!"

And as far as I'm concerned, Empire gave us Boba.

    No it really didn't.

Sir, I salute your bravery. Or your masochism, whichever it was that forced you to sit through that.

Both. I was watching the entire Star Wars film series, and thought "let's watch the Holiday Special as well". Stupid, stupid me.

We enjoy watching it because it's so bad...we watch it once every or every other year.

I would love to read the script for the Holiday Special and see how they describe all the wookiee dialogue.

With one hand, George is taking our money hand over fist, and with the other he is beating us about the head and shoulders with a baseball bat

Speak for yourself! I've been boycotting Star Wars for years, due to these changes!

I only bought the DVD collection that came with the low-quality original versions of the movies... I won't buy another version ever again...

    Gentlemen... BEHOLD!

    main.jpg

I have officially borrowed this from a friend, along with a VCR, and am soon to enjoy blissful THX Remastered but unedited Star Wars original trilogy DVD action.

I actually borrowed it for the purpose of saving some family stuff, but figure while I've got it...

Widescreen THX? Fullscreen is the devil.

    an interesting fact:
If you watch the fullscreen version on a widescreen TV, all the actors look the same as they do today.... It's a fact.

Mark Hamill kind of got more old and gangly than middle-aged and fat.

Also, Hyperspace Collection. Nobody should be turning VHS tapes into DVDs when we have a fan effort like that.
