clem being a child is still under the illusion that the world is black and white good and bad.
plus she retains her innocense and there fore is bound to state looting any car abandoned or other wise is wrong..
clem is taking on the voice of reason and humanity..
Right but I think there's a reason for that. I don't think they would just let that hang in the air like that. To make her decision and pressure to not loot have meaning they might offer a reason such as not pissing off someone like the bandits.
Basically that idea would be a counter to getting the reward of looting the car now but with the risk of angering the person or persons that claim ownership of the stuff you just stole.
Essentially a basic cost / benefit analysis that's hinted at by Clem's actions and the groups pulling you in opposite directions.
First of all. I posted in the intro forum, but I will say my welcomes once again. Hello everyone, glad to be here.
*Spoilers for those who didn't finish Ep. 2!*
And now, to dispense with the topic at hand. Part of me really thinks that taking the food at the end of Ep.2 is going to have serious ramifications later on. Like whoever owned that food is gonna be pissed your group took it, and I think whether you had Lee give Clem the sweater will have a lot to do with the outcome.
There's been a lot of talk on this. A lot of people say that episode 3 feels a little late for it to have consequences, others think it's gonna come back to haunt them because it belongs to the bandits. I'm sure it has a payoff of some kind, even if it doesn't factor in an antagonist.
I decided to support Clementine because i need to make her understand that i'm someone trustable, and because i know that we could survive without stealing the food. And i was so proud seeing her facing all the group, i couldn't leave her alone in that.
I have the game through Xbox AND PS3, and just literally downloaded episode 1 on the IOS. I have supported Clem, not supported Clem, been nice to her, not nice to her. I've killed Larry, not killed Larry, and it's barely a difference between the scenes. I know, I am a dork, but I love the walking dead, even if it is 6 months between each episode. Oh, I've also done it saving carly, and saving Doug. There are enough saves to try them all out. Plus, I got laid off of work in end of May, so I've had a lot more time on my hands.
Having read all that, I still think it may have been a car Jolene "borrowed". I think she intended to take Clem (had her hat waiting for her and everything) and needed supplies and that the hoodie in the car was intended for Clem all along. I think being a bit of a wingnut and not really caring about the car, she left it running with the door open while she went to get the cart from her camp to haul supplies. The car ran out of gas in the meantime and the headlights could have been daytime running lights. Consider the timeline, the game starts and Lee is handing out afternoon rations and ends just after dinner, it's reasonable to assume the car battery lasted that long. Jolene would have arrived with the car after the second group arrived at the dairy to make it to her camp while Lee and Danny were there, which would be why no one saw the car on the way to the dairy.
I don't think there will be consequences. I think by the next episode the food will be irrelevant and they'll be scrounging for more. Whether or not you stole the food will boil down to one line of dialogue where Clem states she's cold. I think this is a moral gray issue.
The bandits are coming for them whether you stole the food or not.
It's an easy choice, or at least it was for me to take the food. You have those you rely on to keep you alive so weak you saw how the rationing went, not to mention yourself. Someone could have come back for the food, but there's just as good a chance they won't. Regardless of how Clem feels, she's not going to bed hungry or in pain due to lack of food, and neither is anyone else who has made a point of watching my back. If that makes me the bad guy or costs me a few brownie points here and there, then I'll deal with it.
I took the food, i don't think the car was owned by the bandits though. They seem to have a fair amount of people to leave a car of supplies unguarded. I feel like it was left by a future member(s) of the group who will like/hate you depending on how how you chose
On my first and third playthroughs, I didn't steal from the car. First time was because I wanted to support Clem when she said that it was wrong. The third time was just to gain the support of Lilly. The time I did steal, I wanted the support of Kenny during the second playthrough. I do agree with WalkingDead23 though. I think in one of the future episodes, you're going to run into the people that the car belongs to and have to face the consequences of your actions.
Did anyone else notice that Larry gasps for breath a split second before his head gets caved in by Kenny?
Honestly the car was the hardest decision for me so far in the game. They need the stuff to survive, like Katjaa said "It could save all of us",they were all hungry, including Clementine...but still...the light were turned on,and the doors were open, people wouldn't just leave a car working like that and walk away.On my first play,I didn't loot it,simply answered "We'll survive without it...",n' agreed with Lilly.
Oh, I didn't mean it to be a meme. Just couldn't find a better pic. You have to agree that the car and hoodie has some resemblance. Even though they don't follow the same canon the time line is pretty close... I think >,>

The group just survived a situation that seemed too good to be true and in the end they still hungry, Kenny got shot, lost two people, made Duck less annoying by adding more trauma and pretty much ruined some relationships. Now we have this same kind of situation, only apparently we didn't learn anything ... 3 min after we had a conversation with Carley about been more careful.
Old world rules no longer apply. This is what I kept telling myself when playing this game, so I went with my gut and took the supplies. This is what you have to convey to Clem. The days of running down to the mall for some new stuff are gone, opportunism rules this world. Plus, I read the series so I know the situation they used for that scenario and that person is never coming back.

That picture is from the television show. In the comic (canon), sophia is never lost like that. Telltale has stated the game is based off the comics, not the tv show.
I chose not to steal for Clem's sake but when it came to killing the brothers I let the first guy go to make a moral point but the second brother I felt like he left me no choice. Killing him was what protected me and Clem and I'm hoping she understands that in later episodes.
Clem's new attire would be a good sniper bait and nice tell for the bandits... wait, wouldn't Kenny give the hoodie automatically to Duck, if Lee refuses ?

Exactly what I was thinking. If Clem wears the hoodie, the car's owners might recognize her. She'll say something like "I told you not to steal from the car!"
O.O I know right.
The car seemed to be missing something too.. with the storm not too long ago, I just can't put my finger on it and it looked to be well parked for the group to find.

Why not closer to the motor in ?
No, Jolene, Save Lots people and bandits are somehow connected with this. The boxes that were moved in Jolene's camp, a possibly Save Lot personnel that was shot by a bandit on the road. Whose corpse probably attracted the walkers we see attacking the farm and spooked the driver who run out of fuel. Or it could be a discrunted buttler as it usually goes.

There you go. The decision determines whether Duck or Clem will be in danger when the Bandits recognize the stolen goods.
Growing up ...oh yes ,I forgot about the time skips. Possible, but he is more sedated now with a lot of bottled up feelings that probably will explode at some point. That last scene when he asked Kenny about the car, did it seem like he was afraid of his father ?
If we take into account the debut trailer ,with Lee holding Kenny from reaching someone, it could have been Katja after loosing Duck.

lee holding kenny was teaser image not actual game footage..imo it became 'irene'
duck isn't scared of his papa he's more likely exercising caution with his words and is scared of the unknown.
What if the hoodie you gave Clementine belonged to Jolee's daughter? Considering what's implied about what those bandits did to her...that could be awkward.

ideally, i wanted lee to leave @ least one box of each (supplies & food) but it doesnt look like the game will let you advance otherwise.
very much looking forward to epsiode three. heres to hoping it wont be too long!
Thug Naaaaasty.

I hope not btw, I really want it to mean something. But that's a pretty solid idea, could be.

or kenny is just refering to duck 'growing up' and finally maturing like carl in the comics/tv show...
or there is a saying kind of forgot how it goes but something like
even a begger can strike gold
even a stupid person can make a smart move
even a smart person can do something stupid..

The bandits are coming whether you stole the food or not because the dairy's closed for business.
