I think hate's just a natural result of having a large online community.
An angry person is much more likely to want to have their voice heard than a content one. Much more so if that person is attached to the company/franchise/game/whatever.
Just look at the official TF2 forums! If that was all you had to go on, you'd think it was one of the worst games ever made. I'm sure once episode 5 wraps up and there's less to get excited about, things'll calm down.
yeah, and i still have hope that there will be more consequences, but if we use a different example like choosing to try and save larry or not, or saving doug or carley, none of these things made the slightest difference to anything anybody did
They made a difference in how the other characters interacted with you. There were also differences in some scenes depending on which person you saved in episode 1.
Are you really learning moral from games?? I am not sure you can take your choices valid because in time you are doing them theres no zombie in RL. I wanna see thinking you about moral when zombies come
I can't tell if this is just ad hominem or a poor grasp of the English language.
Personally I don't think it's all hate, but I reckon a large amount stems from disappointment. In Episode 3, we saw 3 of the group get wasted, and another having to leave regardless of your choice with them. This is the kind of event that should have happened in Episode 4 or 5, to add weight to their loss as we reach the climax, but instead because it happened so soon, we have lost the group dynamic and tension, replaced by three rather.. dull characters. I'm fine with characters getting killed, by the way, I just feel it was too soon and instead gave us a kind of semi-climax where one wasn't needed.
Well, thats why I'm disappointed at least. It's not hate, just disappointment.
I can't tell if this is just ad hominem or a poor grasp of the English language.
Just say what you didnt understand I would love to explain it;) I alraedy wrote somewhere I am not native english but I dont wanna keep writing it in every my post. If you wanna high qality lets talk in czech;)
yeah i in fact like and would recommend the walking dead game, far more immersive than tv and is just generally enjoyable to play, but with that being said, i think it could be better in some aspects

I think it's you who aren't understanding other peoples points. You made that clear in your last post.

And mostly my answer before was mostly joke so I really dont know whats your problem...
I think that Telltale is attracting a whole new demographic with this game. Whether it's your average adventure gamer used to their feel good story lines or Xbox/FPS gamers wanting to save and kill at their discretion, this game pushes all parties outside their comfort zones.
Hopefully, by the time season 2 rolls around, they'll be used to it and can appreciate the game for what it is.
This thread is exactly why games get dumbed down. Innovation gets demonized by annonymous crybabies. Everyone wants to have their cake and eat it too. Doesnt happen that way, not in life or in the ZA. A lot of you are crying about the story and the lack of choice when some things are going to happen no matter what.
Sean dies in the comic so you dont get to save him in the game.
Lily is in Woodbury in the comic so you dont get a say on keeping her.
This game is based on the comic. While it is Lee's story it's still grounded in Kirkman's world. Also, many of you dont seem to understand that death is a constant in ZA and no is immune from it. Especially not in Kirkman's world.
All this commotion over Carley seems like a bunch of teenage boys QQing over the loss of their e-girlfirend. She wasnt that helpful, but then neither was Doug and no one is screaming bloody murder over him. It seems her death has now caused all this hate for the game- a game people were drooling over until this Ep. Now people are finding faults because a $25 game from an Indie group doesnt allow for detailed conversations with minor characters and the ability to CHANGE CANON? Entitlement at it's finest. How long until the petition to re-do the game like the crybabies did with Mass Effect 3 starts?

I'm beginning to suspect that is the motivation behind all the uproar which is kind of sad, to say the least.
In short it wasnt you who like firstt started comparing a moral of throwing a can to bin with shooting kid and some some I dont remember what was the second thing you was writing about???? Am I missing point??
I was making a point about the weight of different decisions. thestalkinghead had made gross oversimplification of choices, comparing them to throwing a can into a bin. One had moral implications for your character while one did not. You then equated that to me learning morals from a video game in a condescending tone, essentially doing what you've complained about others doing. So yes, you missed the point completely.
I'm beginning to suspect that is the motivation behind all the uproar which is kind of sad, to say the least.
Sadly, I started thinking that when there were around 8 or more topics about her. The tipping point for me was the pregnant Carley fan-fiction and the save Carley facebook page.
I agree and disagree. I agree because the journey is definitely important and just enjoying the experience can be as enjoyable as enjoying the ending.
However, a good story is nothing without a good ending too. The problem with saying it's not about the destination is that at some pint the journey ends. There will be no more pages to read or minutes to watch. It means that you have to look at THE ENTIRE experience and decide if the journey was worth the destination it took you to. You could have the greatest road trip ever going to Las Vegas but it will be a downer if it turns out your stay at Vegas was not fun at all. You may live the trip, but you might as well have taken the trip to someplace better.
I will cite the oft referred ME3 ending only to make sure no one forgets it but more seriously to make a point. For the 90+ hours of the three game, you have a concrete and compelling goal of stopping the reapers from harvesting organic life. You do a lot of stuff that is legitimately fun, dramatic and thought provoking. You stop Saren, stop the Collectors and unite the galaxy to fight the Reapers. After all of that, you make it to the final ten minutes only to discover everything you achieved was COMPLETELY CONTRARY to the end goal the game decided for you. You were focused for 90+ hours on one specific goal (everything else is supporting that goal) and that's the one thing the game fails to deliver in the slightest! That makes the journey ultimately pointless.
I'm not as angry as some people about the lack of significant choice but I completely understand the frustration.
I see what you mean, and somewhat agree. If the ending is terrible, then I will feel like something is missing. I can admit that a good ending is as important as the rest of a good story, but I'm sure TT will be able to end the game on a note that we can at least accept. In my own experiences, an ending is one of the hardest parts to write and have it be satisfying at the same time. I'm sure the devs will come through for us though.

Damn I am reading thread whole time!:) I didnt not react to your first post.. Even I am now really trying out to figure out but still cant add your later post in you first post. Maybe its just sound weird to me after translation...
Also another thing people are saying 'decisions' dont matter...they do. Some of these characters are hell bent on their own agenda (Lily vs Kenny) and sometimes it's not what you say but the manner in which you handle the scenario. This story is going a certain way, it's up to Lee to try and keep it altogether and build/maintain relationships as best he can. It's the drama and uncertainty of losing another human, especially one you've come to grow fond of that makes this game unique, much like the comic.

You are so great man:) Do you need to know my identity? Are we friends now or what? If TTG ask for my personal infos I would lovely give them. Same like I would lovely say them to face what I dont like on their game and why. From my point of view major problem of game is how choices tailor your story. I dont know anything about comics and not interested much. Mostly you lack of choice excusing with some story of comics Same like I never played Mass Effect. I love killing main character so I cant se problem in this...
Seems like every second thread here is about how much people hate this game...
Is it just that all those of us that love it don't need to raise our voices, while all those who don't like it do?
I sincerely hope so, because it's a great game and there appears to be some really insanely angry and psychopathic people getting ridiculously worked up over it.
No offence intended there, it's probably in part due to the nature of the internet and how things are interpreted there.
So, where are all the people who don't have any problems with the game at?
Right here...well..me at least. I love it. This story is just incredible and there are still two more episodes to go...all for 25 bucks...what a steal!
The forums are great too. I am just stunned that there are so many people who love Kenny and hate Lilly. Trust me, that is NOT the case in my game. Choice does matter...then I get to read about how choice does not matter...again stunned.
I can only conclude that anyone who does not like this game falls into one of the two categories below:
1) They did not know what they were buying in terms of game mechanics - you get to make choices but the choices you make don't change the outcomes only the relationships with each of the characters.
In e3, Lee was trapped under a door with walkers on top of him. Kenny left me to die...I expected that because he abandoned me before when the plan was for BOTH of us to take down Danny right after we escaped the meat locker. Fortunately, Lilly saved my bacon with Danny and Lee was able to lift the door up and get away from the walkers. Same outcome but Lilly is now my friend and Kenny went from being on my shit list in pencil to being on my shit list in ink.
2) They have never experienced a world so brutal and unforgiving as a walking dead ZA. Being a main character, favorite, well received by all, beloved, etc., etc, , offers no protection against being killed off. When the story says your time is up...your time is up. Maybe a few will mourn your death..maybe thousands...but you're still dead.
I do feel bad for anyone who has both of these catagories apply to them.:D

yeah, i didn't notice it said "you get to make choices but the choices you make don't change the outcomes only the relationships with each of the characters." before every episode
I hope if they come back for a season 2, its going to be advertised as an interactive adventure. I love the game, don't get me wrong, but there isnt any choice to change any outcome
Same thing happened in the comics---people loathed Kirkman as major characters are killed off---same in the video game I guess.
Killing off major characters is fine. But not all at the same time.
TV series killed Sophia halfway through which was heartripping, but fine. It's one of my favorite scenes in television history.
Near the end Dale, Shane and a few nonames got it, makes sense.
Had they killed Daryl, Glenn, Andrea, Maggie, Hershel as well i am sure the TV series would have suffered and lost many viewers before season 3.
Especially Daryl. For many players Carley is the games version of Daryl.
Losing Carley would have been fine, but not when you lose Lily in the process. Then Duck and Katjaa right after.
For me the game blew its engine.
All the decisions i made up untill this point does not matter at all.
And i fail to see how episode 4 or 5 can recover what was lost in episode 3.
Because all you got left is a broken down Kenny, who got nothing to live for. Ben, who is really annoying, an idiot and a traitor. Clem, who is a child and got limited options. And 3 new people that very few really cares for.
The game has to start all over in season 4, and like someone else said. How could things get any worse?
I predict telltale will try to recover from this by killing Omid early in episode 4 and then giving Lee a chanse to get some from Christa. (Mark my words here, love is in the air.)
I also think that the Doug/Carley decision became a huge headache for telltale as the story would have progressed and the easy way out was to just kill both of them, regardless of who you choose back there in the drugstore. And there wont be another decision like that.

He was talking about the comics. Obvious spoilers but here goes;
They killed off all of Herschel's family (except Maggie), Rick's wife and daughter, and several other members of their group IN A SINGLE ISSUE at the end of the Governor's arc.
Also, what's with this weird fixation on Lee's sex life and whether or not he's getting a piece of pixelated ass? It's getting pretty weird to read it as often as I do.

Personally i dont care about lee getting some pixel-ass. But i am sure telltale is taking notes as they have been all along.
And sex sells, always have.
Carley is no way near Daryl as regarding to fan love. Not even close. She's not even close to Glenn.
I would say that Daryl is pretty close to TV show Rick. He's got a legendary status so I guess he'll die in season 3
Really enjoying the game, I like that it seems to be holding true to it's comic style as in it's more about how the survivors are coping rather than a "rescue mission" or just running around finding new ways to kill a bunch of zombies. Great story line, wish I could get episode 3 already, really in the mood for playing it tonight as I've spent most of the evening re-watching season 1 and pre-ordering Book 8 of the comic and The Road to Woodbury
When carley (my favorite character) died I was pissed because it was a very useful character in the group (she knew to use a gun, and this in a apocalypice Zombie is very thing) and got along well with Lee, but so that the walking dead is cool, you do not know who will die, it is logical that the game will not have many choices for different stories, for the entire game is only 25 dollars.
Carley died? Sadly.
I Liked This? Not a bit.
If I could change something I would let her live? Yeah.
More so I'll just call the game bad and stop playing? Never, I love this game it is today is my favorite, when she died I was shocked over this is the coolest reason to play this game.
The Walking Dead Nobody is safe! both the living and the dead.
It's not fair people call the game bad just because your favorite character died, if so stop playing because u are playing the walking dead.
I don't have the time to read the entirety of the thread, bit busy at the moment and it became very long very fast.
I see one of the main antagonists here is Funatick, so humour me here, I can understand that you are upset that your choices don't greatly affect the main storyline, personally I don't care about that myself. For three main reasons, one that would be almost impossible to do programming wise, because no artist (writer in this case) is going to jeopardise their own story to write a thousand potentially boring permutations and because the story they have going is great, I really care about the characters.
I don't understand this angst for lack of impact on the main storyline, don't you have any empathy towards these characters? Don't you feel like it really affects you personally when you say something nice or something mean? Every dialogue options is a choice with varied responses throughout and variations in how we reach an end point. All these things add up to how we perceive our own character and the other characters in the story. Doesn't that impact you?
I only played through once, because that feels like how the game should be played to me. However my brother also played and we compared our play-throughs with completely different takes on different character, and that was cool. Really awesome. Just completely stellar.
This game has a story line, that's what writers do, they write stories, but how you travel along in that story changes between players, even if we all hit the same major plot points.
Now I'm sorry, but if while playing through this game you did not empathise with any of the situations, falter at any point, get angry or upset at a character or event or generally feel immersed then I don't understand why you paid for this game. This game was advertised as a character driven story with difficult choices (as is the whole franchise) and it delivered that. If you cannot empathise in these situations then I'm sorry, but you must be a sociopath, or at the very least disconnected from human relationships. In either case, this is not the game for you, try something without a story.
Also it was $20! That's a sixth of the price of a new release game (in Australia) and for most people probably less than an hours work. Even for someone cleaning floors like me it's less than two hours work, stop being so stingy.

Great post, OP. That's what we've been trying to say the whole night, yesterday. I guess it kinda turned like a private discussion where 10 people are trying to convince 2 to believe in something and occasionally some new people join to throw their 2 cents at us.

Just look at the official TF2 forums! If that was all you had to go on, you'd think it was one of the worst games ever made. I'm sure once episode 5 wraps up and there's less to get excited about, things'll calm down.
They made a difference in how the other characters interacted with you. There were also differences in some scenes depending on which person you saved in episode 1.

It's because she has boobs, not moobs.
Damn I am reading thread whole time!:) I didnt not react to your first post.. Even I am now really trying out to figure out but still cant add your later post in you first post. Maybe its just sound weird to me after translation...
Both of them apply on me:) Because n1 I hate it but because n2 I love it so final outcome is so so Anyway great comment;)
yeah, i didn't notice it said "you get to make choices but the choices you make don't change the outcomes only the relationships with each of the characters." before every episode
Yep, and Kirkman's response was issue #100, basically saying "I don't care who's popular, they die when I say so. Case closed!"
My biggest fear about this game was that this wouldn't be the case. As masochistic as it sounds, it just wouldn't be the same.
He was talking about the comics. Obvious spoilers but here goes;
I would say that Daryl is pretty close to TV show Rick. He's got a legendary status so I guess he'll die in season 3
Sorry for double post.
