Sony ripped Microsoft's head off and shit down their neck.

    Holy shit.
  • edited June 2013
That was amazing. I've never seen an audience chant for Sony like that.

$399. Oh Xbox is so dead.
  • edited June 2013
    Microsoft is XBONED.
  • edited June 2013
God-damn. Sony, I've never seen someone flat out obliterate a console piece by freaking piece before even coming out. I don't like to swear, but fucking well done.

    Xbox Done.

    Shots fired.

    Okay, so the PS4 retails at launch for: $399 ; 399€ ; £349

Disc-based games do not require being attached to your PSN account

Used games are allowed and trading disc-based games is made available (with no extra fee nor restriction), as there is no system-required online authentication for disc-based games

Indie game developers can self-publish games on the PSN.

Side note: even though the demo for Assassin's Creed 4 crashed, the Pirate I Was Meant to Be really wants that game.

    Yup.

And Sony didn't say anything about Playstation Move. At all.
  • edited June 2013
The *only* downside is that PS+ is required for online multiplayer.

Then again, I might just pick that up again anyway for the free games and discount on the PSN store.

Yeah, I picked up on that they said non-Plus PSN accounts would only have access to single player content (and I assume local multiplayer, though they didn't say so).

I assume that they intend to use the revenue (from not having online multiplayer for free) to improve the multiplayer aspect of PS4... but then, they didn't say anything about having a centralized multiplayer hub a la XBox Live.

I don't play multplayer myself so It doesn't effect me.
  • edited June 2013
Where did they mention you need PS Plus to go online?
  • edited June 2013
Yeah, they specifically said "Online multiplayer". No one's really going to care about that I don't think. Everyone I know, who plays a lot online, already has PS+.

They were talking about PSN titles at the time... maybe it's just online multiplayer for PSN titles?
    Can anybody say specifically?

Where did they mention you need PS Plus to go online?
It was subtly snuck in there, at the end of the "We don't do [MS stuff]" bit.

Where did they mention you need PS Plus to go online?
They had a number of things they said Plus members would have access to and at the end of the list they said "online multiplayer". Then they said (I'm paraphrasing) "Our non-Plus members will still have access to single-player game content as well as the other online media (movies and music) that we have available."

The only think unclear to me was the number of PS4 exclusives titles (as opposed to cross-platform titles with PS4 exclusive DLC).

Multiplayer aside here, let's face it.

The folks who went to bed, flat out missed a massacre of behalf of Sony.
  • edited June 2013
Yes indeed. I hate that I'll have to buy a PS4 AND keep my PS3, but oh well. Sure beats the XBone.
  • edited June 2013
OK. I'm adding a PS4 to my Christmas list now.
(And cancelling my Xbox live subscription)

Bah! I miss all the good stuff.

And this was good. Well done Sony, you just won.

    Sony won...
    Used games...
    Not online...
    £70 cheaper...
    More powerful...
    Looks a bit less ugly...
Microsoft didn't announce Viva Pinata 3...
  • edited June 2013
I guess one of those "of"s should have been an "on". Funny how I didn't notice that before now.
  • edited June 2013
    Did anyone share this?

Ye Gods, I'm almost as funny as that video. Sony, don't stop being awesome. Please?
  • edited June 2013
Okay, yeah it says right on that video(that coolsome also posted on the previous page) that online multi-player requires a PS+ subscription. Oh well, I've had a PS3 since the initial release and I've played online twice.
  • edited June 2013
I've played online a couple of times (mostly for trophies), but then I've also had PS+ for years since it was such good value. So for me - and, I suspect, a lot of people - the change won't be a particularly bad one.

    Just watched the conference...
Only real problem is the majority of the conference was talking about the exclusive Outfits you get on PS4...
  • edited June 2013
Will watch the conference. Already watched the "We are not Microsoft" bits and price point in a highlight video. One I expected, the other I didn't. They are really setting the sail for dominating the market with the PS4 again.

Really surprised by the low price. Well I guess they can kinda afford it because they don't force a NSA surveillance camera on the buyer.
  • edited June 2013
My favourite bit was when they brought on the Indies...
They brought in a lot of indies...
Whilst Xbox just showed us Minecraft...again

All right, Sony. I need a new BR player anyway. You announce halfway acceptable prices for your games, and six years of being without a console will be over for me. Day one purchase if you like.

GOD have they whupped Microsoft's ass yesterday. I'm not sure if Microsoft technically still HAS an ass.

Oh, we know. We know. Sad that you didn't take my bet in the One thread. But I didn't think that they'd actually be a full hundred bucks cheaper. That was a surprise for me as well.

I never take a bet I don't know 100% I'll win. This one was at 70% for me.

I'm over the moon about the news regarding PS4. I was seriously worried for a while that the current generation (PS3) would be my last ever video-game console. The moment that all consoles demand I be online is the day I quit modern gaming.

I suppose there was always the Wii-U as an option but... Hahahaha! Sorry, I couldn't finish that sentence with a straight face.

Same as. I don't need to play with a bunch of annoying brats to have a good time, just like I don't need to be with a woman to have a good time. I've got my own hands, my own brain and my own imagination; you'd be surprised how far that can take you.

Now, if you'll excuse me. I have a vat of hand-cream that ain't gonna use itself to attend to...

Meh... I'm just screwing around really; half-heartedly showing my utter lack of interest in the Wii-U. No biggie.
