Because women are just as capable combatants as men are, you sexist sack of shit.

    Yes, I have. Have you?

The antagonists are bullies... just like in Karate Kid 1. Their instructor is a war veteran who is so psychologically fixated on war that he has brought the fight back home with him and teaches his karate students to hate others... just like in Karate Kid 1.

Julie is an easy target for bullying because she's a troublemaker at school. She doesn't bully, but she gets into mischief.

And yes, women are just as capable of fighting, like Fawful said.

No that's why I was asking.

Well yh I get that but they do nonsensical things like jump off the rafters into the prom and his line about every girl would love a chance to fight him at the docks..that's just bloody weird I tottaly understand women would wana kick his ass but he then uses that as a pick up line!?

And the teacher was trying to get them killed because......Who the hell hired him!?

And yes, women are just as capable of fighting, like Fawful said.

Didn't say they couldn't the fact she beats him isn't what I found weird its the fact he wanted to take her to a dock and kick her ass for no reason. I mean if someone was doing that in any high school in real life he would get his ass handed to him by everyone.

Ah, but that's because we don't live in a poorly written 90s film.

Oh, THAT talisman. Yeah, I used it once.

...it broke. I was too awesome for it to handle.

But you're a mod. That's what you want us to think, as it means more power for yourselves!

Is there some kind of ritual when you become a mod? I'm talking initiation ceremony, with monks and candles and Pac-man.

There was, but to speak of it would be sacrilege.

And for the record, there were absolutely no buckets of custard involved. *ahem*

I'm getting old. Does this mean I have to start giving a shit about politics?

I turned 30 last month. Trust me: nothing changes. You just might get yourself a 3DS XL for your birthday.

I don't feel like making games anymore. It's mostly having to do with the fact that gamers these days are ungrateful asshats, but also because it seems that indie game developing is more about making money than it is about making games.

I mean, I love certain indie games, because they bring something unique, but sometimes I just feel like people just want to quickly cash in.

That and you're easily judged for shit when you're more well known. I don't know if Phil Fish or Jonathon Blow deserve the flak they supposedly get, but at least in Fish' case I actually could understand, even Yoshinori Ono gets sick of asshats who keep on bitching about stuff, and he's a generally cool guy.
  • edited July 2013
It's the internet. People will bitch about anything. Unfortunately, that's just how the world works.

See, if I were in charge, then everything would be available on the internet. No censorship, no restrictions, nothing like that. But you'd have to use your real name. You wanna slag someone off? Fine. But everyone will know that it's Dave Generic from Newport that's insulting someone else.

You watch. The amount of negative stuff on the internet will half overnight.

As for your other comments... well, yeah. Some people are in it for the money. But not everyone is - some are genuinely in it for the love of the game. They don't tend to be as well known, but they exist. You just have to dig deep to find them, because they're usually too busy actually making games to be noticed.

Well Mr. Fish has been getting hate constantly since at least 2010. And well. people react differently to that. In his case everything went way out of bound on the hate side. It's no longer the vocal minority. it feels more like 100% even looking from the outside in. Hating him is cool and gets you clicks and by that money. It has gone too far and the only way out is the way out. And he took it.

Someone made the point: Square didn't rage on Twitter when people hated FF13. Well they were:
    a) swimming in their money at that point.
    b) not caring because there were much more people to blame for it than just one or two people.
    c) can afford a PR department that handles stuff for them.

So that's totally comparable I guess.

Everyone has a break point and they deal with it differently. Some use Twitter, others take to drinking, shouting out of their window, eating babies, strangle kittens, cut themselves or beat the wife/kids.
Most of this people will never see though.

Gary? Haven't you made this shitty shit-mod for Half-Life Two? That piece of shit?
  • edited July 2013
Fuck, shit, I just realized. If Phil Fish were to ever sue the Internet for giving him a burn-out, then we're fucked, because people can be held responsible for a burn-out in certain countries.

Given, the amount we'd have to pay would probably amount to about $0.0001 per person, but still.

Also, just realized I worded it poorly. I understand that Fish ragequit, because people were being dicks to him.
    der_ketzer wrote: »

Nope, I'm the guy who's been trying to get people to read his novel by putting it in his signature, where his full name is seen.

    Also, final question.

    Sleeping or pooping?

People suck. On a case-by-case basis they can be pretty cool, but whenever they're grouped into larger populations it seems that the overall personality devolves to the lowest common denominator.

First of all, I generally do agree with this. The sense of entitlement and the view that every new game should compare to any other new game no matter what the budget/hoops are has grown out of control. This is more of a generational change than gamers exclusively. All of this considered, there are still fans of EVERY game that has ever been released. One has to really focus on these people as a creator. Being unable to sift through this feedback, friends of friends are great too. They are less likely to sugar coat excessively, but more likely to give it a good chance to please them.

This definitely isn''t the occupation to go into if you want to be loved. No matter how great your games are, one bad game and the hatred spews.

Secondly, everything is about money. Everyone wants a piece of the pie. People who are doing it for the love of it are vastly overshadowed by those who are "trying to make it", trying to get that big job and get paid for what they love. Aside from this, one is also competing against desperation. Companies form, people invest, people's livelihood goes at stake and the market becomes increasingly cut-throat.

If you love it, do it and focus on those who love what you create and ignore everyone else.

Reminds me of one Derren Brown: The Experiments episode, where annonymymymumymity makes everyone dicks.

EDIT: I guess you're right. Back when I was working in RPG Maker 2000 I was making a game purely for my own. Sure it later turned into a novel I still haven't finished and probably never will, but yeah, it's the idea.

Actually, it's the younger folks who think that caring about politics actually matters. :)

Actually, I was just feeling guilty earlier today for telling Brian Moriarty that I didn't think Stationfall was as good as Planetfall, 20-something years ago on GEnie. Except, well, Stationfall isn't as good as Planetfall. Sorry, Brian. Trinity was pretty good, though, so don't feel too bad.

My point? Umm, well, people have been criticizing games for a long time. In some sense, it's better to get negative attention than no attention at all, because it means somebody cared enough to play it.

And if you want to produce games without making money, no one is stopping you. Heck, GPL 'em, and offer people a chance to make them better!

Having a bad purchasing experience with Green Man Gaming. Made a 15 dollar purchase, and a site glitch cancelled the order so I had to make it again. However, they still charged me for the first purchase that glitched out. I asked them what they could do, and they said they couldn't do anything because that second purchase counts as me getting my product from the first sale. So effectively, they stole 15 dollars from me. I'm working hard to see if there's anything that can be done, I just had to vent.

Edit: The result was me being completely unobservant to see the second key. Oh well...

I've spent most of the morning scanning photo's onto my hard disk. 290 photo's scanned in, and I've barely scratched the surface.
I found a photo of a 5/6 year old me reading what I assume was a playboy magazine. Although I seemed to be more interested in the kitchen counter, which was probably true. Amusing, none the less.

I also dug up some photo's of my father's funeral, which I distinctly remembered not going to until today. But there I was, standing next to his memorial flowers. Hmm....

    You were saying?

Anyway, I've decided to make my own game a pay what you want. As in, the default price is 0, and you'd have to go through captcha to actually pay for it. So it's too tedious to pay for my game.

    Sounds... fine?

So I could pay nothing, play it, love it, and then buy it again for like $10.
