I installed the latest drivers and redownloaded and reinstalled the game. Seems to work for now ... at least I have not experienced any crashes so far.
changing screen res helped cheers, but what do we do about the lip sync and jumpy screen movement?
Depends on your System. First set the Graphic Level to 1. If that doesn't help, reduce the resolution.
It would help if you could give us some information about your system.
What operating system are you using?
Further go to your Start menu and click on Run.
Type in "dxdiag" and hit enter.
Then go to the Display tab.
From there, post this information:

Sounds strange to me. What Version of the Windows XP Service Pack is it?
Have you installed the recent windows updates already?
I just had a weird thought... I don't know if it makes sense, but i wonder if it could have anything to do with your graphics card having 2 cores...
I have no experience with those, is it possible to deactivate one of the cores?
Maybe you can play around with your nvidia settings and see if you find anything useful.
Since each one of them calculates some parts of the picture it could result in stripes, if one core calculates the odd lines, and the other one the even, and one core fails to run somehow. But in that case the lines should not be whit i guess.
That's pure speculation, but it's better than nothing.
There's another thing you could play around with.
You could try if older or the recent beta graphics card drivers change anything.
Don't forget to uninstall the previous driver and reboot for a clean installation.
Hi, I get the same problem as some people posting earlier with the with the game not starting and simply having a process running. What I tried was to reinstall the game using dont check directX and then I get an error message instead telling me to reinstall the game, Im afraid I cant tell you the exact error as Im not on my computer atm but rather at a rather smoky internet cafe somewhere in argentina ;-).
Im running this on my macbook.
Windows XP
2.2 GHz intel core 2 duo
4 GB ram
intel gmax 3100
Ive been able to run the sam and max games just fine :-)
Fixed by reinstalling downloading the game again using the big download isntead of the one in the email.
so this is my PC, and i wont work, do I have a chance to make it work?
Operating System: Windows XP Professional (5.1, Build 2600) Service Pack 3 (2600.xpsp_sp3_gdr.090206-1234)

What happens when you try to start the game?
Is your display color depth set to 32 bit?
The information you posted is quite sparse.
If you want to give us more useful troubleshooting information please start dxdiag:
Windows XP: Go to your start menu and click on run. Type in "dxdiag" and hit enter
Now click on the button that says "save all information".
It will prompt you to save a file. Save it where you can find it.
Now you have two options to make it accessible to us. Pick the one that works best for you:
If you know how, you can zip the file and attach it to a message.
You can upload it to Rapidshare and copy the link to the file into a new message.

Okay, thx. Now back to the beginning. What happens if you try to start the game?

I see. You should update your drivers and see if that helps. Have you ever used the Lenovo System Update Tool?
You can download the latest version here. It should update all your drivers.

No have never tryede it. but will do it rigth away...
(I've solved this problem now, but in case it helps anybody else)
I don't know whether I'm having the same problem or not. I installed Launch of the Screaming Narwhal not long after release, and it was working fine, but then I wasn't getting much gaming time, and haven't tried to run it for a while. I've just come back to it, and now it doesn't start.
I see MonkeyIsland101.exe in the task manager for a short while (~10s), but then it exits before showing any window. I don't see the spinning skull.
What's odd is that, since the game last worked, I don't think I've changed anything relevant.
I tried dxdiag and it crashed; when I ran it again, it said it had crashed while getting information about DirectInput. That was the clue; a bit of googling pointed to dodgy USB devices as a possible cause of this error, and in fact I had just connected up a weather station. Unplugging that has sorted out the error and the game starts fine now.
So, if anybody else is having problems starting: try running dxdiag (Start > Run, type "dxdiag") and see if it works. If it crashes in DirectInput, check your USB devices. If it works, you'll be in the right place to get the info Will asked for at #44. ;-)
I bought & download all 5 games today and thought i'd start right away, sadly once i press new game & get into the loading screen the skull & crossbones stop moving & everything freezes.
I also tried the treasure hunt but the game also froze once i clicked out of the infomation about it. I've tried all hints & devices posted on this threat (adding files, changing paths etc..) & hopeing maybe someone can help me out.

Have you updated your audio- and graphics drivers and directx?
Can you give us a dxdiag?
dxdiag
Windows XP: Go to your start menu and click on run. Type in "dxdiag" and hit enter
Windows Vista / 7: Press the windows key on your keyboard or click on the start menu. Type in "dxdiag" and hit enter.
Now click on the button that says "save all information".
It will prompt you to save a file. Save it where you can find it.
yes i agree the sound drive is old & that says a lot for the computer =P i've updated it with the intaller provided but my graphics card I updated before installing the game.
It seems to last a few more seconds on the loading screen but still freezes.
I thought i had all the basic requirements... must have been wrong =S
sadly your talking to no computer wiz, how do i disable the audio device in device manager.
I can only guess as well. It doesn't look as obvious as in other cases.
A likely candidate is "nvidia nforce...".
You can check if it is disabled by starting dxdiag and looking at the "sound" tab. It will not list the device anymore when it is disabled, so you can try to disable some of the entries until you found it.
Btw. did you try the clean boot already?
Booting clean in Windows XP:
To Boot Clean in Windows XP
1. Click Start --> Run --> Type MSCONFIG --> Click OK
2. On the General tab, choose Selective Startup
3. Uncheck Process SYSTEM.INI file
4. Uncheck Process WIN.INI file
5. Uncheck Load Startup Items
6. Click on the Services tab
7. At the bottom, check Hide All Microsoft Services
8. Uncheck all boxes in the window or click the button labeled Disable All
6. Click OK
7. Click Restart
8. After reboot, run the game to see if it works.
After performing the necessary steps, restore your system by doing the following:
1. Click Start --> Run --> Type MSCONFIG--> Click OK
2. On the General tab, choose Normal Startup
3. Click OK
4. Click YES, when asked to restart your computer
I have done both tasks & still no change, i guess that rules out the Audio system.
That's sad.
Do you get any error message?
What happens if you try to start the game while you are disconnected from the internet?
Do the other episodes work?

JohanShogun, what do you mean by the "big download"? I'd like to try the same fix. Thanks!

Your Graphics driver is a bit old and your sound driver... is horribly old.
Try to install the latest Graphics Driver and nforce drivers (which are from 2004, but at least a bit fresher).
