I don't see the full menu for some reason. I think you may be right, I need a better graphics card. I haven't upgraded since 2002! Any recommendations?
To be honest - you're probably better off buying a new system; even if you find a newer AGP graphics card your Athlon doesn't cut it in any way, shape or form either... :(

After 8 years it might just be time to let go, even if you've gotten attached to that computer over the years...

Hmmm... frustrating. I tried disabling the sound, no dice. I also tried adjusting my native screen resolution... nope. I'm wondering if someone sent or posted a prefs file with 640x480 detail level 1, would that override the system and get me going? I know we'll figure this out at some point. I really appreciate your patience AND your help.

Let's try to narrow it down. Does it still happen when you disable your sound card in the device manager before starting the game?

Try this prefs.prop. If something breaks just delete it and it will generate a new one.

Leak is right. New Hardware is by far not as expensive as it was 8 years ago.

Anyway it would be interesting to see a dxdiag log of your system.

    dxdiag
Windows XP: Go to your start menu and click on run. Type in "dxdiag" and hit enter
Windows Vista / 7: Press the windows key on your keyboard or click on the start menu. Type in "dxdiag" and hit enter.

Now click on the button that says "save all information".
It will prompt you to save a file. Save it where you can find it.

Then zip the file and attach it to a reply in this Thread.

Can't seem to attach.....sorry here is the long version:

Looks like a completely new system would be the best option. Your slow CPU might be a problem.
If you know a shop that would refund you, you could try just upgrading the graphics card though.

Ok, this is getting stranger and stranger. When I loaded that prefs file, it set to 1024X768 detail level 9, windowed screen. Perhaps this isn't meant to be right now...

    Thanks for your continued support!

    Sigh...

It didn't work, my friend. I'm starting to wonder if I should request a refund/credit and purchase the Wii version instead... It's a shame, because I just pre-ordered the DVD as well, because the demo originally worked so well.

    Hi,

I looked at some graphics cards in a 2nd-hand shop today but they all look very big and have different sockets to mine. I dunno if they are compatible with my computer. I've attached photos of my PC and the cards I saw.

Maybe I will just need an entire new computer.

    Thanks

Well, we would have to see the inside of your computer to see what kind of slt you have. The cards you found are for PCI-Express slots, so maybe you have AGP or PCI? IF you can take a photo of the inside of the case, I might be able to help.

that doesn't quite help. we can't tell what kind of slot your video card is using because the video card is still plugged into it.

in an effort to find out your motherboard specs online, I googled the (supposed) model of your motherboard, according to the specs you listed:
    System Manufacturer: GBT___
    System Model: AWRDACPI
But I can't find anything worth any usable information regarding specs. There must be a different model number written on the physical board that actually would work, but I digress...

Take your video card out of your machine so you can take a picture of the slot it plugs into, then upload the image to us.

A high resolution version of the earlier Picture would be useful too, because the white Sticker should identify the Mainboard Model and there are different AGP versions.

Another option is a new graphics card, which would also solve the problem that you even want to run in a low resolution and quality.

Can you make the settings in Episode 2 or 3?

Have you tried completely uninstalling the Nvidia driver and installing an older one from the nvidia archive?

Great. Your Mainboard is the Gigabyte GA-7VA Rev 1.0, which features an AGP 8x slot.

Depending on the Performance you want there are different cards available, even with relatively new chip generations.
If you can still get one of these the Radeon 3850 will give you good performance for little money. Look here for some benchmarks.

Otherwise the Radeon 4650 or 4670 would be a good choice.

It all also depends on your power supply though. Can you make a picture of the specifications written on it?

For the 3850 it is recommended to have 30A on +12V. Yours has only 10A.
Also some graphics card models require one or two 6 Pin power connectors.

If you pick one of these cards you might want to install a new ATX 2.3 power supply as well.

Some of the less powerful models should run without upgrading it as well though.

So would the 4650 and 4670 need a new power supply? I can't tell even after reading various reviews/specs etc.

Ideally I'd just like to replace my graphics card and not the power supply. will have to upgrade the rest of my PC at some stage, but I'm not that interested in having the best gaming PC. I'd just like to play ToMI.

I can't tell you for sure either. It will probably work.
Consider though that a power supply is an investment into the future. If you buy a good one you can keep it if you upgrade your system further.

Hey, just to let you know. If that can help.

I had a problem with playing TOMI in fullscreen, but not in windowed mode (thanks to the props file in this thread, I could check that). Running Windows Seven x64.

It occured with some other games too.

I found that it was due to Comodo Firewall. it has a "Defense +" mode that does not work well under Seven (it was fine under XP). Changing it to "Training mode" before running the game solved the problem.

    Hope this helps ;)

    Hello again,

    Thanks for all the advice.

I have just bought an ATI Radeon HD3650 (the ones you mentioned were not stocked in the shops I went to and I really wanted to go to a shop rather than use the internet so I could speak to the staff) and a G7 Power Extreme 580W power supply.

ToMI now works perfectly even on full quality graphics settings!....I'm very glad I didn't have to replace anything else.

Looks like another few years for my old PC yet!

@AliaMW I apologize for the inconvenience. Below are a few possible solutions:

    1) Ensure you have the latest drivers for both your graphics card, and your computer’s BIOS

    2) Restart your system

    3) Unplug your gamepad (and all other USB devices other than keyboard/mouse) and plug in headphones to the audio out jack.

    4) Verify your cache if you purchased through Steam (https://support.steampowered.com/kb_article.php?ref=2037-QEUH-3335)

    5) Run the game as admin

    6) Run the game in compatibility mode (right click on game’s icon, click properties, click compatibility tab , and we recommend running the game in Windows 98/ME ) (We recommend Windows 98/ME)

    7) Reinstall the game

    8) Make sure that the Steam application is not set to a compatibility mode (right click on steam and click properties, then check compatibility, and make sure that it is not checked to play in a different OS)

    9) Disable Steam Overlay, if you purchased through Steam (http://forums.steampowered.com/forums/showthread.php?t=3168263)

    10) Opt out of the Steam Beta, if you purchased through Steam (http://steamcommunity.com/discussions/forum/1/828934424165581080/)
