Borderlands 3 Creative Director Paul Sage says the game's main campaign is over 30 hours long if you "beeline" it.
It's not from Randy Pi… moretchford, so I'm willing to trust it more.
There's going to be plenty of Borderlands 3 to sink your teeth into. At a preview event on Tuesday, our writer James played about three hours of the new looter shooter, which is a mere fraction of the full game, as it turns out. According to creative director Paul Sage, the main quest for Borderlands 3 will last for 10 times that.
"If you beeline it through, and I mean beelining it through, it might take you 30 hours to complete the main story," Sage said.
That's actually right in line with Borderlands 2, according to How Long to Beat. The average for the main story according to several hundred players is 31 hours, but few people finished the game that quickly. Throw in side missions, experimenting with different builds and playstyles, harder d… [view original content]
Apparently the reason David Eddings isn't the voice of Claptrap anymore was because he wanted to be paid for it. He was the Vice President of Strategic Partnerships & Licensing at Gearbox and aside from his regular salary he was not being paid additional compensation for voicing the character all these years, because he supposedly offered to do the voice work for free until now.
I’d just like to say, and I’ll try to mean as little offence as possible when I say this, but if you think that Rhys Strongforks sound so stupid that it shouldn’t be his real name, then I’m sorry but you’re playing the wrong series.
For one, it’s a looter shooter so gearbox aren’t obligated to prioritise character development over running and gunning. But to the main point at hand, borderland is supposed to be stupid, that’s what the series is, the primary antagonist is literally called Handsome Jack. Handsome. Fucking. Jack. My man has some weird fucking face glued onto his face, his entire name is both somehow ironic and unironic at the exact same time, I mean my guy looks sexy but wtf is going on with his face? Anyway the series is 100% not supposed to be serious. It’s supposed to be tacky and over the top, it’s not the walking dead, it’s not fallout, it’s not red dead redemption, it’s borderlands, and seeing as there aren’t many games out there that are just a huge clusterfuck of laughs and stupidity, is it so difficult to like not try and suck the fun out of it for me? Please?
It would be different if Rhys was a new character, instead of a character with a ton of development. It just feels stupid to go "and now he has a last name that is a joke no one understood until after a day of people watching the same clip of the game over and over and over again." Its just annoying watching people who never worked on the character already handling him in a dumb way.

I know a lot of Borderlands character names are wacky and with puns, but it just doesn't feel right with Telltale's Rhys. Yeah it can be seen as a nitpick and maybe some people don't feel the same way, but was it really that necessary to give him a surname?

What Im saying here is, its annoying the character who had so much development, a spin off game where he was a main character, to now just be shafted in such a dumb way. Gearbox also likes to act like they tell great stories, but they will never hold a candle to the original writers of Tales from the Borderlands who out did them writing wise by a mile, which is why its a bit annoying watching this super well done character being butchered because "the xd lol borderlands is DUMB" type of attitude. Not acting like there isnt "xd dumb shit" in Borderlands, but there suppose to be a fine line of characters and brain dead humor. Borderlands 2 did that well, which was also Gearbox's last game with good writing so, RIP, cant wait for Rhys to actually be part Jack to explain his new behavior, completely butchering the Tales from the Borderlands story even more.
So I guess when Randy said that Rhys in BL3 not being voiced by Troy wouldn't matter at all, he was talking about how Rhys' character in BL3 barely resembles Rhys from TFTB?
Its more so annoying because Tales characters like Rhys have had so much character development dedicated to them, honestly more so than 90% … moreof the other Borderlands characters, so its a bit annoying seeing these people who never worked with the character give him such a stupid last name for literally 0 reason, and just make his character so different in general (let alone he isnt voiced by Troy and instead sounds like a terribly done boot leg version of the character)
But gearbox don’t exactly specialise in story telling. They’re no telltale. Most of their games involve shooting and blowing up stuff from an FP perspective, not taking the time out to soak in the environment and learn about backstories, all that stuff is just bonus baggage. I mean just look at Duke Nukem Forever and bulletstorm, both games where Gearbox had a hand in developing. Although Duke Nukem had a weak story, the gameplay was kinda decent and entertaining tbf, same with bulletstorm, story didn’t quite work for me but the gameplay did. What makes borderlands stand out among these two is the wacky side quest, like the one in borderlands 2 (I think) that was literally called “kill yourself” where the mission was to basically throw yourself off of a cliff. Where’s the story in that or development in that? There is none because borderlands doesn’t, and never really has, aside from tales, relied on story to boost its reviews, borderlands has always been built on how fun and wacky it is, and Rhys’s surname supports what the series really is. Did he really need a surname? Not really but so what? It doesn’t change anything.
Tales (and story mode if we’re counting that one) is one of the few “one off games” as I like to call them, because they’re story based games that are based on something that doesn’t have much to do with story in the first place, contrary to TWD, TWAU, GOT, BM and GOTG, which all came from licences where the originals had some kind of story to tell. Some games just aren’t meant to have character development, some are just meant to be fun. I mean look at the classic arcade games like Pac-Man, Mappy and Tetris, not a spec of development to be found but regardless they were fun af. Case in point, Ik Rhys got development cos telltale managed to get their hands on borderlands...but that’s the thing, it’s not telltale’s series to begin with. It’s gearbox’s. And seeing as Rhys is a borderland’s character, making an appearance into the main series, they don’t owe anything to us fans in terms of further developing him, because like the previously listed games borderlands isn’t about character development. It’s for looting, shooting, and having the occasional wacky moment to be thrown into the mix. Pretty much the only bad thing to come out of all this is Troy Baker not being able to reprise his role, but that’s it. Everything else that is happening with Rhys is Gearbox remaining true to the heart and soul of what makes borderlands borderlands

I mean I guess I'm in the minority on this but I actually like Rhys' new voice.
It feels like a natural progression of Rhys aging 4 years since we last saw him. (Traveller fight happens a year after The Pre Sequel)
While the obnoxious side of Rhys isn't really captured, the goofy side is well delivered by Ray. I'd definitely prefer Troy but for now, I'm holding out to see what he sounds like in a scene without a voice filter.
I just really hope they don't recast Vaughn or Gortys
Also here's something good to hear that I haven't seen pointed out yet
Youtuber SupMatto (popular Borderlands Youtuber with 100k subs) was told that Fiona is in BL3 and he seems to believe it.
I mean Id be surprised if Fiona wasnt in the game. Also just so you know, they will 100% be recasted. If they didnt get Troy, they did not get Chris Hardwick. Same with Gortys, same with Fiona. Only person who has a slight chance of keeping the same voice is Erin Yvette, but honestly I bet they recasted her too.

Not to mention he is going to serve a pretty large role in the story. It be one thing if hes just one mission in the game, but no, hes going to be a big player. Seems silly to give him such a large role and then recast him.

I know not many people are visiting the site anymore, but for those who are still here, there's set to be big news on the horizon in regards to not just Borderlands 3, but Borderlands 2 as well.
Despite the game originally coming out in 2012, and the last DLC content releasing all the way back in 2014, it seems incredibly likely now that we are about to get a new Borderlands 2 DLC that will work to set up or lead into the events of Borderlands 3. According to sources, this new DLC will be announced during E3, where Gearbox plans on showing off more BL3 content such as a new planet, and is rumored to be titled "Commander Lilith and the Fight for Sanctuary."
While these rumors have been around for a few weeks, they have especially picked up steam in the last week or so, as many have pointed to huge activity on Borderlands 2's SteamDB page that indicate new content may be on the horizon. I don't know about you, but this really excites me, I've been dying for new Borderlands content and this will definitely tide me over until BL3 comes out in September. Plus, I have an overpowered 7 Salvador (working to get overpowered 8) that I am dying to use for something.
Hm. I assume this new DLC is going to be released for the Handsome Collection, but I wonder... Would they also release it for old-gen versions? That'd be interesting...

The article I was reading did mention briefly this exact topic, asking if it would be available for the PS3 and Xbox 360 versions of the game. If you ask me, I highly doubt it as BL3 won't be released on old-gen consoles, and it would be a lot of work and money just to make PS3 and 360 versions of this that probably won't sell much at all. I would assume it will be released for the Handsome Collection, I don't see how they would be able to work around that as the only way to play BL2 on PS4/One is through the Handsome Collection.

Kinda hoping it will be for free seeing as I doubt its gonna be that large amount of content. Also just in general way less people will be playing it seeing as how old the game is now. Very interesting though, even though I think it should be free, Id be fine paying 5 bucks.

Even 7 years after the original release, BL2 still has over a million unique users every month. The game is still widely popular and played by huge amounts of people, especially now with people preparing for BL3 and either getting back into the series or playing it for the first time.

Well, the chance of a BL3 promo DLC have skyrocketed, in my opinion.
The Playstation Plus games of June 2019 have been revealed. One of them: Borderlands: The Handsome Collection.
Now that's the perfect move by Sony and Gearbox to get players into the Borderlands series, and drop a bombshell around this E3 season of some new content for Borderlands 2.
EDIT: If this DLC does come out, it'll most likely be free. Get PS+ people playing the game, and surprise, surprise! There's new, free content that they can get to get them ready for BL3, and they didn't have to pay a dime! Marketing hype and goodwill = 10/10.

While Troy isn't coming back to voice Rhys, it seems one original TFTBL voice actor will be reprising his role: Chris Hardwick will be playing Vaughn.
While not officially confirmed, it appears highly likely based on this tweet by Chloe Dykstra (as much as I hate citing her as a source, here is the tweet).
Who is Chloe Dykstra? She is an ex-girlfriend of Chris Hardwick who, during the height of the MeToo movement, accused Chris of physical and emotional abuse. In an essay, Dykstra alludes to a previous relationship of hers that was abusive, but never mentions anyone by name, but gives signs that point to Chris. As with many issues revolving around the MeToo movement, a very public lynching of Chris soon followed, where he began being dropped from TV shows, hosting TWD's Comic-Con panel, and was almost blacklisted.
However, outside of the article, which again never mentions Chris by name, no actual evidence was presented. Instead, along with Chris denying the accusations, several other ex-girlfriends of Chris, as well as his wife, came forward and called out Ms. Dykstra and rushed to Chris' defense. AMC conducted an internal investigation and not only found no evidence, but Ms. Dykstra refused to participate in the investigation. Chris also released text messages that not only revealed that he broke up with Dykstra after he found out she was cheating on him, but that she begged for months to get back together with him.
I always feared that, despite being vindicated, Chris would not return as Vaughn because of this very reason, rather than Gearbox not willing to shell out money for voice actors. If Chris is indeed coming back as Vaughn, then I am a very happy camper.
it seems one original TFTBL voice actor will be reprising his role: Chris Hardwick will be playing Vaughn.
If this does happen, then that'll be real nice of Gearbox to do. With all the uncertainty of which TFTB characters are coming back, and who will voice them, if they can get someone from the original cast back on board, then yeah, I'll be happy too.
(Though I do find it weird how they would manage to hire Chris Hardwick (a more mainstream celeb) and not Troy Baker (a celeb in Voice Acting). Maybe Troy costs more than Chris because of his high-profile roles and experience in VA-ing…)
It definitely has to do more with Troy costing more than Chris. Chris' portfolio is more diverse (stand up specials, talk show and game show host, TV and film actor), but Troy has just had so many iconic roles (Joel, Joker, Booker DeWitt, Delsin Rowe, Pagan Min, etc.) that booking him would be much more costly.

A new Borderlands DLC at this point is all but confirmed, and I cannot contain my excitement. The name of the DLC is Commander Lilith and the Fight For Sanctuary.
Based on available information, we now have:
The level cap being raised from Level 72 to Level 80. This one interests me as I'm currently trying to go through the Raid on Digistruct Peak DLC and reach Overpowered Level 8 (currently stuck on 7).
New Rainbow Rarity gear. I've heard about this a couple of months ago, but I don't really know what it is. I think it's supposed to be even rarer than pearlescent weapons, but I'm not really sure. Still pretty cool though.
New psycho style enemies. Some sort of weird mutation of plants and psychos, don't know how else to elaborate on that. EDIT: So apparently, these plant-like psychos were concepts in a cancelled DLC for Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel before 2K Australia closed down.
Returning characters such as Tiny Tina and Brick.
The DLC is supposedly FREE and coming out June 9th (not sure about this since that's a Sunday, but we'll see)
With only 2 or 3 people frequenting this thread (or it's probably just Metallica now), this might not get me anywhere, but...
Borderlands players! I need some tips.
I've decided that I'll try to get back into Borderlands 2 again after its announcement as a PS+ game and rumors of new content for it. I'm playing Gaige (lvl 20 now), as I thought the added benefit of having some AI helper to summon would, well... help.
Problem is, I seem to be as incompetent with it as I was when I left the game a year ago. I keep dying. Most enemy encounters I finish only finish because I chip away at the enemy's health after X amount of deaths. I'm using the best weapons I have and can find with the appropriate elementals, but it's just so hard to pick off various foes when everyone in the area has their guns pointed at me.
I just feel like I'm doing something wrong, as if an enemy downs me and I haven't taken away half of their health, I can kiss that Second Wind goodbye. And it seems to happen more often than it should, with the amount of frustration I keep feeling.
After the Troy debacle, I was fully expecting they'd replace all of the TftB cast, so color me surprised. Doesn't mean I'm still not salty about Rhys tho.
That's super neat. But yeah, that release date is a bit weird. Would make more sense to just officially announce it and release it during E3, since that's around the corner.

Yeah, it’s probably going to be announced on Tuesday during E3, as the schedule has Borderlands for like an hour or so on that day, and Pitchford has talked about what he wants to show off during the conference. So far, we know there will be Moze gameplay, another new planet, and a couple of surprises, one of which will probably be this new DLC.

I remember my first time going through Borderlands 2 and finding it very difficult, I was dying a lot, especially in areas that were considered “easy.”
Usually, if I go back to an old character I haven’t played in a while, I try to refamiliarize myself with what skills I’ve upgraded for them, and then I’ll either leave it or respec my skills at one of the customization stations. I’d recommend the respec, just so you feel more comfortable with the character you’re playing as, as play styles change as time goes by, and something that didn’t seem appealing at one point all of a sudden becomes much more beneficial. For someone like Gaige, I would highly recommend, if you haven’t already, put your skills into Anarchy. Yes, it takes away from your accuracy, but you gain an insane amount of damage when it starts to stack up. You’ll also be able to then upgrade the character so that bullets can deflect off of walls and stuff, so that will help when your gun just starts firing wildly.
I cannot stress this enough, but do the side missions. It’s pretty much a requirement to do side missions in order to level up your character, gain better gear, and unlock new areas. What I like to do in both Normal and True Vault Hunter Mode is to get to a decent vantage point, use a good sniper rifle, and kill a few enemies, before I go charging in and take the rest of them out. Sometimes, you need a gun with a very high fire rate, even if it does less damage than another gun. Lastly, don’t forget about your badass ranks, those come from completing challenges throughout the game and permanently upgrade not only your current character, but all of your characters. They can help upgrade your Max health, gun accuracy, gun damage, reload speed, melee damage, shield capacity, and much more.
If you’re level 20, which part of the game are you at that seems to be giving you trouble, maybe I can offer specific advice about that particular level. I would offer to help since we’re both on the PS4, but all of my characters right now are either in the 50’s or maxed out at 72. By that point, I’m pretty sure all my characters have to do is look at one of your enemies and they would die.

I'm at the "Wildlife Preservation" story mission, but I'm currently completing the previous side mission I was tracking down: "The Good, The Bad, and the Mordecai". Made it to the Friendship Gulag. (I also notice there's a ton of 'undiscovered' missions in the list, so I should probably go track those down too.)
As for Anarchy, yeah I've got that skill. But yeah, I'll respec and try to focus more on that skill tree if it's as useful as you say. (and oh boy, I just wish I could change the 'reload' action to holding the button. Since Gaige's whole thing relies on her not prematurely reloading, if you take a step too far when picking up items, there goes all your anarchy! )

Holding down the reload button can only be for picking up large amounts of surrounding stuff (money, eridium, ammo, etc.) or equipping a gun, so yeah, no way to switch it out. However, if you start the reload process by accident, what you need to do in order to keep the anarchy is either quickly swap weapons or start a melee attack, both of these actions will interrupt the reload and prevent you from losing anarchy. This is a bit more challenging if you're using a Tediore weapon due to how quickly they reload and them being thrown at enemies, but being able to interrupt an accidental reload will keep the Anarchy stacks in place. There is also a skill in the same tree as Anarchy, called Discord, that does something when you loose all your anarchy, I forget what it is though, but that could be useful to have.
The Wildlife Exploitation Preserve is a bit of a challenge, especially when dealing with all of the stalkers. This is only made worse on harder difficulties when rabid species are introduced. With stalkers, it might be helpful to get a shock weapon to get rid of their shields, because once those are depleted, they can't go invisible. Fighting stalkers and other creatures does get a bit easier with practice, but yeah, that entire area can be a bitch at times. There is, however, a lot of secret stashes or places to get loot in that area, so be on the lookout for that.
The Friendship Gulag can be a bit of an overwhelming area at times, due to how small it is and the amount of enemies thrown at you. Corrosive is your friend here, and don't be afraid to try and shoot the plants that launch out corrosive damage at your enemies, that can definitely help. And trust me, the reward for that mission is great as you get an XP bonus Eridian relic, so if you need to level up quicker, that's your best friend.
Thanks.
I'm at the "Wildlife Preservation" story mission, but I'm currently completing the previous side mission I was tracking down: "Th… moree Good, The Bad, and the Mordecai".
Since Gaige's whole thing relies on her not prematurely reloading, if you take a step too far when picking up items, there goes all your anarchy! )
all of my characters right now are either in the 50’s or maxed out at 72. By that point, I’m pretty sure all my characters have to do is look at one of your enemies and they would die.
Yeah, it'd probably be a bit to easy with you there.
...I'll call you if there's anyone whose insides I need melted.
As much as I want to be freaked out over the fact that we're basically fighting a slightly different, much scarier version of Saturn, I absolutely love Tiny Tina's line. Like, of course that's the thing she would focus on the most.
How and where did you get this? You're right in that it looks like you're fighting in the ruins of Helios, wonder if that means Vaughn and the Children of Helios will be, for a while, minor antagonists before they turn allies. We know that the crashed Helios site will also be in Borderlands 3 and that Vaughn (voiced by Chris Hardwick) will be featured heavily.
Still wont be surprised if Fiona is changed though, if she even appears smh.
Honestly if all Tales characters have the same voice but Rhys then thats almost even worse. Like then its just completely shitty. "Idk dude you kinda cost more " like it isnt even subtle at that point.
Now it's official - Chris Hardwick will reprise his role as Vaughn.

After the Troy debacle, I was fully expecting they'd replace all of the TftB cast, so color me surprised. Doesn't mean I'm still not salty about Rhys tho.
While Troy isn't coming back to voice Rhys, it seems one original TFTBL voice actor will be reprising his role: Chris Hardwick will be playi… moreng Vaughn.
While not officially confirmed, it appears highly likely based on this tweet by Chloe Dykstra (as much as I hate citing her as a source, here is the tweet).
https://twitter.com/skydart/status/1133774291529420802
Who is Chloe Dykstra? She is an ex-girlfriend of Chris Hardwick who, during the height of the MeToo movement, accused Chris of physical and emotional abuse. In an essay, Dykstra alludes to a previous relationship of hers that was abusive, but never mentions anyone by name, but gives signs that point to Chris. As with many issues revolving around the MeToo movement, a very public lynching of Chris soon followed, where he began being dropped from TV shows, hosting TWD's Comic-Con panel, and was almost blacklisted.

"planets"? oh shit
BYE PANDORA I NEVER LIKED YOU ANYWAYS!!
I've browsed the horrors of this thread, and while I was going to say that Rhys' new last name is stupid, I'm not.
It's Incompetently Bad
My life has been ruined and my dissapointment is off the charts.
This truly is the darkest timeline!
On his Twitter, Eddings said, "For the first time, I insisted on getting paid for my performance and all of a sudden they couldn't afford me. Now I'm not telling them how to run their business but maybe next time they should put the $12M payment from 2K in the Gearbox bank account instead. Just sayin'..."
It’s borderlands...it’s supposed to be dumb ?
EDIT: Hyperlink is broken, skip to 1:40
I mean Id be surprised if Fiona wasnt in the game. Also just so you know, they will 100% be recasted. If they didnt get Troy, they did not get Chris Hardwick. Same with Gortys, same with Fiona. Only person who has a slight chance of keeping the same voice is Erin Yvette, but honestly I bet they recasted her too.
I mean, the new VA isn't bad, it's pretty good, but if you're going through the trouble of bringing the character back, why not just bring the VA back as well?
I mean...I really did wish they brought Troy back so...yeah, I agree??
Chris Hardwick and Randy Pitchford are good friends, I would be more optimistic then that.
Not to mention he is going to serve a pretty large role in the story. It be one thing if hes just one mission in the game, but no, hes going to be a big player. Seems silly to give him such a large role and then recast him.
As if my opinion of Pitchford wasn't low enough already...
Damn, that's a huge sign that something big is coming soon, brilliant marketing move right there.
Now it's official - Chris Hardwick will reprise his role as Vaughn.

After the Troy debacle, I was fully expecting they'd replace all of the TftB cast, so color me surprised. Doesn't mean I'm still not salty about Rhys tho.
Thanks.

Yeah, it'd probably be a bit to easy with you there.
...I'll call you if there's anyone whose insides I need melted.

DLC takes place after the events of Tales, as you can see with the Helios crash site in this screenshot. Expect a few references to Tales in dialogue.
