I miss the old forums. :|

Sorry to whoever designed the new site, it isn't the worst design ever, but it has serious problems and I think the old one was far more user friendly. youtube embedds are nice but can we make polls?

  • Fun fact: Polls were being tested in the open beta, but they were deliberately not included by Telltale in this version.

  • No we can't, I have no idea why not, it boggles my mind, at least the one I at at has a poll system.

  • edited September 2013

    New suggestions:

    • Remove twitter widget
    • Add polls and actual useful features

    While you're at it

    • Put this back into beta so I can stop pulling out all my hair

lock - no, delete - yes, move - yes.

You should be able to lock a thread. It's now called "Close", and you should see the button second from the right if you hover over the OP. Let me know if it's not showing up.

  • A suggestion...

Go back to the original forum style. Please.

  • Maybe each post could be separated more? And be singular and wider like a forum setup? Bigger avatar pictures too. Along with an Omid avatar, please! :)

This would generate so much good will.

    Who agrees? Petition time!

  • Can't do a petition properly. They made off with our polls.

I think I've found the real reason behind removing the polls.

  • I would love to have the notifications of new posts take me directly to said new post.

Not like, 3 pages back or page 1.

Also they said polls were scrapped because they weren't used often at the old forums. I honestly disagree.

  • I heartily disagree, I used to say it is not a normal day unless there is a poll, like said above this is why there are no polls.

  • You should be able to lock a thread. It's now called "Close", and you should see the button second from the right if you hover over the OP. Let me know if it's not showing up

It IS showing up. I was indeed too stupid to find that one. :(

That looks like a bug - I'm getting the same thing. I'll raise it with the web team.

No such thing!! This has been a huge change, it's going to take some getting used to for all of us. The good thing is that this is a product that's under active development, so seriously - give all the feedback you can and I'll try to get the most important stuff prioritised.

    thanks

  • I can no longer put "amusing" comments in the Header and Edit Lines.

So, that probably counts as an improvement ;)

  • you could put polls back i really did like the polls.

  • Release date polls were the best... but they wouldn't make sense nowadays anyway as the week day of release is pretty much fixed.

  • IT WOULD BE NICE IF I COULD LOG ON AND READ THE SITE. As things stand there's no word wrap so I have to constantly scroll my phone sideways in addition to up and down. What forum doesn't design itself with mobile in mind in this day and age?

  • DAISHI's back!! Now that's a forum improvement. ;)

  • Well technically I did make two comments over a two month period :P

  • Its a bit weird that these new forums are meant to help protect against spambots but for the last few days a spambot has gotten on the forums.

  • It would improve the forums greatly if there weren't threaded replies and if the forums used BBCode. How many times am I going to keep saying this...

I'll keep saying it. They won't listen, but I'll keep saying it anyway.

  • I would say the mods are doing a fine job. However as the popularity from the game grows, so does the people coming on the site. I strongly believe that you need a serious reason to ban someone, and if banned you should have the right to appeal to someone directly higher then them. A system that protects the community.

For example, say one mod is having a bad day. He bans person B. Now Person B can no longer engage in talks on the site. They cannot buy products directly from the site. All over a small situation when one sole person decided they should no longer have rights to it. Now personally I haven't seen anything like that here.

I've seen sites before, where people get a tad out of line. Then a mod bans them right away. However the community here is much much more respectful. Their are hardly any mean or nasty comments, people are joined with this site to discuss their love of video games that is produces. Right now in my opinion. It's fine.

No one is stopping banned people from contacting Telltale directly, I know of quite a few members who did so. In fact, I even wanted a proper address to turn to in such cases written down in the new forum guidelines, but it somehow didn't make the cut. And I assure you that should the contacted Telltale official not find an immediate and clear reason for the ban, he'll ask questions in the mod forum. It happened a lot in the past. In some very rare cases, ban durations were shortened; most of the time, our decisions were supported; and in some cases the investigation turned up even more dirt on the community member and ban durations were extended... ;)

Bans mostly are a solitary moderator decision, that's true. Behind the scenes, she or he leaves a note as to the reasons, and fellow moderators or Telltalers will speak up if they consider the ban time to be unusually long or do not understand said reasons. Moderators can't really run wild.

But of course, a ban doesn't keep you from buying, downloading, activating and playing Telltale's games, and it does not keep you from contacting Telltale's support!! Also, almost all bans are temporary. In some cases (on very heated release days), we've even issued some mere 24 hour bans, just as a cool down period for some lovably wicked people who are somehow exploding with aggressive excitement.

As to the 'mod bad day' theory: Yeah, there certainly are bad days. I like to believe that on those days, we actually issue timeouts fitting the crimes instead of applying the usual leniency. ;)

Another word of reassurance: Bans really are rare occurrences on this forum, especially when no game releases are in sight.

  • I'm curious, when you say. The ban durations pulled up even more dirt and their bans were extended. You put a smiley face next to that comment. With all due respect. You are supposed be neutral. Not fist pumping in the air, if the mods happen to find even more scandal in their situation. Now said that.

Everyone is human, and humans have emotions, make mistakes. I would say not giving a clear direct email or some type of communcation rather leaving it up to one person, can turn a loyal customer into a bitter one. Take Bioware for example. They have moral choice games. This one time they banned someone and that ban prevented the person from logging in their game. (I understand even a ban here will not pervent them from playing their game but stick with me..I have a point)

The internet exploded with hatred. Honestly. I had no problems with you or anyone else mod actively. The site is barely active enough you would have to check it once per day. Though one thing I dislike is a person that's not neutral looking at a mod ban, perhaps their friends so they don't want to offend the mod, easier to keep the lid ban on the person. I just truly hope nothing corrupt like that is happening here.

Because this one person, does seem really really upset at the mod community for some reason.

  • I find it a tiny bit odd in this thread. You say you have no idea what I'm talking about, but in the other thread you say and I quote.

Yes. A Community Moderator of Telltale Games' forums who left because the staff have no respect for the community members.

Now, someone at TTG is going to read this and say "we /are/ listening; we're working hard to fix the new forums."

To which I say, you can shine a piece of shit up really nice (you can--Mythbusters did it) but at the end of the day it's still a piece of shit.

  • Could you tell me what part of Iced's post gave you that impression? Because he's one of my best friends, and he's never once expressed an issue with the way the other moderators do their job. When he was writing that article, I helped him make sure that he was saying what he was trying to say, so I'm seriously confused how you've drawn this conclusion from it.

  • I got that impression reading the comments from Chyron8472. He said what I quoted in my earlier post. If you go back to the thread I linked. It's now removed either by Chyron8472 or a mod It's where the "SNIPED" post was at. But he said that. Honestly, I thought I was replying to a post who was upset with the moderation. That's why it stunned me, when Chyron8472 responded in this thread as if he never said that.

Either he misinterpreted it or something else. I should have taken the time to read it at length. Glancing at the first comment. I thought the message was something it wasn't.

Yes, I should have actually read at length what he said. I skimmed through much of it because I don't know him. I glanced at the first comment which seemed like a hostile comment directed off topic at something else. That is where I was given the impression. I wasn't implying moderation isn't up to stranded. I was replying to, what I thought was a discussion about moderation.

So is this a case of misunderstanding Chyron's post in that the moderators are not actually staff? We used to have disclaimers in our signatures after this sort of confusion in the past, but those are gone in the new forum. We were given the option to customize the wording a bit, and this was mine:

The preceding post was made by a volunteer community moderator, not a Telltale Games employee, and does not reflect the opinions of Telltale Games. Remember, only you can prevent forum fires.

Chyron is well aware of this difference, so if he was talking about "staff", he wasn't including the moderators in that.

  • It seems this is a case of giant miscommunication and misunderstanding. However I do sincerely apologize on my part for not reading the post to know exactly what he was talking about. I was in hurry and skimmed through it. I'm aware the mods aren't actually on the staff. I thought the reason he was quitting was either because of staff or mods.

As I said. I do apologize for not reading it in full.

  • Ooo, I know how we could improve the forums.

Maybe we stop calling is a 'forum'. Because it's not one any more. It's a community. (snigger)

But yeah, IcedHope left because of a dissatisfaction with the direction of the company and the new site. It was nothing to do with us mods, who are all awesome and can do no wrong (except when we do, but that's very rare and usually entirely my fault because I am an idiot).
