About the recoloring, though, shouldn't her vest be brown? I mean sure, it's closed instead of being open, but that doesn't mean it's part of her shirt or something. The original vest was brown, I'd say go with brown if you're trying to keep the colours.

What the hell is this? It looks like P!nk with red hair and a major cold.

(Pic copied because it's a new page anyway (and it's easy comparing them with the other one above ;)))

Looks much better. Makes one wonder why they changed the colors in the first place...

    Don't really like 4 or 5 much..

Yuck, v5 is horrible horrible horrible. Thank goodness she's hardly in the game.
  • edited May 2010
Hey, I don't think they should do a 'mad' and 'angry' looking Elaine, but well...
  • edited May 2010
No blocky hairs anymore please. They scared me already with the poster, and now Elaine.
  • edited May 2010
I'm a little dissapointed in V5. I guess that the voice of Alexandra Boyd will have to do the trick of making it into our beloved Elaine.
  • edited May 2010
Yeah, I'm sure Elaine will be fine. I can't believe how seriously nitpicky most of the fans on facebook are. Be thankful we're getting a Special Edition at all!!! Geez! And yeah, I'm sure Alexandra Boyd will do the role justice again. I wonder if they'll move onto LeChuck concepts next week, or maybe videos! Or a release date? Please? :)

My attempt at giving her a less severe-looking face:

  • I like this color-corrected post-therapy version of Elaine, A LOT more.

I agree, at the end of the day this is just one interpretation of an old game. It may not will not meet everybody's expectations or preferences, which is why it seems like everybody's tearing it apart, but I believe most of us are quite pleased to see there are adventure game developers at Lucas Arts again who are passionate about their heritage. I know I am. :)

    This is win. 100% win.

    Agreed. A huge improvement.

I still dislike the design, though.

In case anyone missed it, Alexandra Boyd commented on versions three through five on Facebook:

V3 - "Yeah! Lose the pearls!! I don't think I would have been able to swashbuckle so well with the pearls!"
    V4 - "Do I get a say?"
    V5 - "Why am I so angry??"

    Haha, that's really funny/awesome.

Actually, I think the funniest thing is her comment on V4 Guybrush: "Where's Elaine!!!????"

I like thesporkman's edit of V5. Isn't it amazing what a difference small changes can make? Character design is a tricky thing to get right.

She seems to be wearing a lot of eye makeup, though, especially in the side view. Elaine, honey, you don't need a pound of mascara to look good! :)

Was LucasArts on crack or something when they drew this? What was wrong with V4, or even V3!?
She looks awful, and she's way to short.

PLEASE post this thread at Lucas Arts, or something, this deserves to win over the other Version 5 version...

Elaine is moody but she isn't a ass hole. She's compassionate at best and worse, that's why she loves her numb skulling husband.

I think this is just her facial expression when she finds out Guybrush was just after the map to Big Whoop.

Do you have a link to that? Not that I don't believe you, but I'd like to take a look at her FaceBook page. I don't have one myself, so that makes searching for it a bit difficult.

Yeah, I wasn't crazy about purple clothed Elaine but it just feels and looks right in these illustrations. I never realized how much of her character was truly expressed in those 8 / 24-bit pixels.

Ugh. All those fan-edits look worse than the original. Especially the re-faced version. Except for the recolour, which is decent. But I still don't have a problem with the new colours. Don't be so hard on it, guys, it looks good.
  • edited May 2010
I think Irishmile's is the best. I still don't understand the change in costume at all.

Im walming up to the V5 now I guess it took a little getting used to for me but I tottaly see elaine now

I think everyone has to keep in mind that we are not going to be viewing the character models this close when playing the actual game. Having a close range shot of the character models is obviously going to make small problems become much more apparent. These types of models are really not meant to be viewed so close because they will become more pixilated. The models will look fine in the actual game and they seem to already be good judging by the screenshots and the video on youtube.

The original reference isn't that detailed either so I'm not sure what that means but I'm sure it messes with our minds some how.

Good job, Irishmile :) Gives us a good idea of what it would have looked like if they had followed the original more.
  • edited May 2010
Although I think they should stick with the purple over the green, the clothes themselves don't bother me. I'm sure Elaine has more than one outfit. But when did Elaine ever have a pale, freckly complexion with orange hair? Not in the pixellated versions, not in the latter games, and not in the close ups in SMI. So where is it coming from?

Elaine looks ugly, that's not even her face.
  • At least she's belongs to the human race!

    *parries attack*

in all honesty its definitely not a deal breaker for me and I like the way she looks in the game.... but I do think they should have softened her facial features a little....

sorry to go all 2008 on you all but someone needs to ask her "WHY SO SERIOUS?"
