I think Lucasarts may have already "spoiled" that puzzle 20 years ago.... you know when the game came out?..
  • edited June 2010
You know there are people here who haven't played Monkey Island 2 yet. It's makes me wonder why LucasArts is yelling out puzzle solutions.

    Of course I know, and it's 18.5 ;)
But there are plenty of people here who have either never played the game, or who don't play the game often enough to have memorized every puzzle. Plus, adding spoiler tags isn't really that much effort.

I couldn't concentrate on what they were saying at first. Those voodoo dolls in front were just too distracting.

    I... need... one...:D

    *rolls eyes*

I reckon it wouldn't be too hard to make one yourself.

I'm fairly useless with a needle, and anyway, I want it to be an official Guybrush voodoo doll!

Yes, they did. Only thing is, there'sonly one scene in that bunch of clips with actual music. Probably an early build of the game.

That video doesn't look official at all. It's probably taken from an early build of the game that got leaked somehow; I remember something of the sort happened earlier, when another YouTube user posted a few unauthorized clips from the game.

I suspect the music in the final game will be fine. Don't worry.

no you can still do everything you could in the normal version. when you click on an item the two actions that are most important pop up to save time.

So clicking on the item gives you a choice of the important verbs, but you can go through all verbs before hand, select talk for example then click on the sign?

I'm wondering how the verbs (and inventory for that matter) are going to work in the PC version, since that's the one I'm going to buy. Will it be hold down left mouse and move through the choices? As for the inventory, it's either right mouse or alt.

The other verbs just gave the default "I can't do that" messages. I just checked; here are all the responses for the other verbs:

    Push/pull sign: "I can't move it."
Use/give/open/close sign: "That doesn't seem to work."
Talk to ... : The sign doesn't even register as an object in "talk to" mode.

I remember reading somewhere that one of the control options will be to have the same interface as MI1 special edition. You might have to use this mode or classic mode in order to use all verbs with all objects.

Actually, it's kind of better this way. He said in one of the videos that if there's a witty or non-standard response to an action, you that option will show up on the compass. Which means a lot of us might find dialogue we never even knew was there. For example, for a long time I never knew you could 'pick up Captain Kate,' but anyone who plays the SE will see that option on the compass right away. I'm sure there's plenty of other stuff I could have missed on my first million play throughs :)

If you use the comp I think you still be able to hit P for pick up S for push (shove) Y for pull (Yank) ect

Yea but do think they bothered to record dialogue for those verbs if the verbs dont show up on the compass?

This special edition will be a thousand million billion times better than the last special edition! I hope on the final version the scene where Guybrush digs Marco LaGrande's grave is different, the light was wrong there, on the original scene everything got black (except for the sky) and was only lit everytime lightning struck. In the video, everything is lit all the time, which kinda ruins the effect.

On the classic version all the verbs will still be there, so I hope they recorded those lines.

on one of the E3 vids they mentioned "Nice X" is still in it.

Poor Dominic... he had to record every single object in the game that doesn't have a description... how many "Nice ..." lines are there?

The original game used default messages. They'd only have to record a handful of "I can't move it" and "That doesn't seem to work" lines, and those would be used anywhere in the game where another response wasn't available. The "Nice X" lines are a special case, but as someone said above, they've already confirmed that those will be in the game.

I'm still wondering what they'll do with the "Bottles of Beer" song, though...

I hope they include the CGI trailer with special edition release,so you got your own copy of the trailer...I heard they were giving demo CDs at E3 of the game,I wish I had a hard copy of the special edition

Yknow, I wouldn't doubt if they're purposely withholding game footage with music so that the iMuse system will be a surprise to us all...

Of course, since "look at" is the default option for most objects.

On the other hand, good for Dominic that locking at money is just "I'm rich.". They could just have used that line in MI1 too. It wouldn't have hurt the game a bit. :D They did that kind of "cheating" in Hit The Road as well: When you try to pick up an object multiple times, Sam will tell you the internal object number of that object in the subtitles, which was just omitted in the voice acting.

Although, there are instances where it is essential to the story that the numbers are read: The wheel of fortune, and the map coordinates.

OK, Gamespot have posted a picture of the very last scene. Surely a bit spoilery of you Gamespot? I know most people have already played it to the end, but not everyone.

VERY. But I'm going to be traveling on the 7th, so I'm not going to get to check it out until I get home a week and a half later. That's going to drive me insane.

It's not as bad as you might think. There's a lot, but I just get 3-4 pages all set and blow through them rapid fire. It probably only took 15 minutes or so for each.
