Just noticed the MT-32 track playing during classic mode. :)
I wonder, will the game have native MIDI, which most costumers can't use properly, because the majority probably don't have an MT-32, or will it be emulated?

I'd say it would be emulated.

Surprised there hasn't been more talk of the music - that trailer is our first snippet of the MI2:SE realisation of the main theme and it sounds great - funky bass line intact and all.

Adventure Treff uploaded the E3 Trailer to youtube in High Quality AND with the audio in sync:

It's a beautiful trailer but sadly it's way better than the actual in-game graphics will be. Dominic has done a really good job as usual, perfect delivery.

LeChuck was bloody terrifying! I love it.

WOW that looks even better then tales! (no offense Telltale)
  • edited June 2010
Well to be fair they had the same resources that the Clone Wars cartoon has, Lucasfilm Animation Singapore, I imagine it took a bit to render all that.... I doubt TTG has the same luxury... but yeah I with they did... Tales was a great game and deserved to have those kind of lush backgrounds.
  • edited June 2010
This looks better because it was fully animated. Tales uses predetermined expressions to speed development.
  • edited June 2010
    That only explains the animation....
  • edited June 2010
But it says that tales was made by Lucas arts as well. Why didn't they do the animation if they had better resources
  • edited June 2010
Only cut-scenes get that kind of animation... even in high budget games.

Actually, I believe it was done by Blur Studio.

thats the first time the SE lechuck has looked scary to me lol

Seriously? The first time I saw the SE LeChuck on the official website I nearly wet myself....

LucasArts is only named because they own Monkey Island. I imagine TTG were the only ones who actually did any work on the game.

Wow, I never expected them to actually emulate the MT-32. But it looks like they did just that. I moreso expected Adlib emulation. However, it's definitely MT-32 emulation because it doesn't sound near as good as a real MT-32 does. Maybe they're using soundfonts? It wouldn't be the first time...especially for an XBoxLive Arcade title (Duke3D for XBL also used MIDI with a soundfont). And of course Telltale themselves used a soundfont-like scenario for the Wiiware version of TMI.

Didnt Blur do the cut scenes for Ultimate Alliance? I love those in that game

    From fear?
  • edited June 2010
Yes. He's scary. Way scarier than the original. I was actually worried if LeChuck would measure up to just how scary he was in the original. I promptly kissed that worry goodbye upon presentation.

That looks like it has been made out of plasticine, but really well done.

Also, hey Dominic! Psyched for the release?

This E3 podcast briefly mentions Monkey Island 2 about 4 minutes from the end. Not much new is revealed, but the podcaster calls the game "a treat" and says that the commentary feature is "really cool", and he hopes it does well so that LucasArts can make more!

Ok, now you don't need to listen to the podcast!

I've always loved their "Warhammer" cinematics. They should just make full-length features that look like their stuff.

Oh, and Dom, are you just dropping in at the forums every now and then, or are you a regular (if silent) visitor?

Well, I think that's it now. I think we've seen the entire game. I can't think of any location that we haven't yet been shown. It's no longer a matter of 'I can't wait to see LeChuck's Revenge: Special Edition!', it is now a matter of 'I can't wait to hear LeChuck's Revenge: Special Edition!' because the audio side of the game is the only part that we are yet to fully experience. I just feel sorry for all of the deaf Monkey Island fans out there.

No, we haven't seen the secret room in Rum Roger Jr.'s house yet, and possibly the room in which you give LeChuck a wedgie. And there is, of course, the bonus concept art. And perhaps the game will be slightly different and slightly more detailed than what we saw in the screenshots, probably as a result of our nit-picking.

Just looking at the Big Whoop Amusement Park screen...Is it just me or is that laid out almost exactly like Booty Island...Or have I just noticed something that has been said many times before?

we havent seen the outside of Lechucks fortrass yet

we havent seen the outside of Lechucks fortress yet

Ah, yes! Good point. That was actually one of the things that I was most looking forward to seeing when the game was originally announced. Strange how I forgot.

I don't think we've seen the back of Elaine's mansion yet either, or the mansion's kitchen, or the interior of the Steamin' Weenie. Wow, there's more unseen locations than I thought.

And aside from the ones already mentioned... we also haven't seen (as far as I remember, though I could be wrong on a couple before anyone posts any smart-ass contradictions; I'm just going from the top of my head):

    The title screens
A couple of the other tunnels in LeChuck's Fortress.
A couple of the underground tunnels locations from the end.
Most of the Dinky Island Jungle screens
    The Phatt Island Library
    Downstairs in Phatt Mansion
    Phatt Mansion Exterior
    Rear of Booty Island Mansion
    Downstairs of Booty Island Mansion
Interior of Scabb Island Weenie Hut
    Booty Island Costume Shop
    Most of the map screens
The cliff face where the map piece lands.
The whole left hand side of Rum Rogers' house interior (and I'm sure other examples of screens that we haven't seen the whole of)

There's plenty still to see, even if a lot of backgrounds have already been revealed. Not to mention that we haven't seen most of it in motion yet, or at the full resolution that will be available in the game. And of course as was pointed out, there is still most of the speech, music and commentary yet to be discovered.

    Just sayin'

Ok, LucasArts are up first in about 1 hour 40 minutes with Gamespot's live E3 coverage. We can assume that Monkey Island 2 will be shown off then.
    :D
Then there's IGN later on tonight...

Er....that's the whole point of the ending. That it was (seemingly, to Guybrush anyway) all part of his childhood fantasy so he skewed his reality to look like a pirate world. This was in the original as well.

It's bizarre to occasionally talk to the voice of your childhood hero.

Yeah I understood all that, but I just didn't notice the similarity to Booty, I got the Steemin' Weenie, and other obvious ones

MTV says the game looks fantastic!
    :D
They also say it's gonna be $10 again.

Just wondering actually, we should start getting some reviews soon, yes? In fact, early prediction, I think Gamespot are going to adore it.

Here's their review of the first game:
    http://uk.gamespot.com/pc/adventure/thesecretofmonkeyislandspecialedition/review.html

Their positive points mention plenty of laugh-out-loud moments, (which MI2 also has) Inventive, satisfying puzzles (which MI2 also has), a new hint system which lessens frustration (which MI2 also has), loads of well-written characters to interact with (MI2 has tons more characters) Look behind you, a three-headed monkey (which MI2 has at some point). They mention that they like the HD visuals (MI2:SE's visuals are tons better)

The only negative point is that there is no option to have voices with the classic mode. And guess what MI2:SE has as a feature!! Along with Developer Commentary, an Art Gallery, a better voice cast (by the looks of the video), an iMuse system (hopefully!) and added animations (i.e. Guybrush's idle animations), I could see Gamespot putting this in the 9.0-10.0 range.

    What's everyone elses predictions?
    :)

    -3 Weeks to go!
    :D
