1.What are these crates, and keys?
2.Can I trade with people that isn't online at the moment. Ex:I send the offer, you eccept the offer later on, and trade.
3.Anyone want to trade that new spy knife, for any weapon that I may have(I just got a vintage sandvich.)
Mann Co. Supply Crates are a dropped item that contains one of a specific list of items. Unfortunately, the only way to open them is to use a Mann Co. Key, only available from the store. Mann Co. Supply Keys cost $2.49 on the US store.
They are starting to be used as a form of currency for trades.
So far, there are only Series #1 and Series #2 crates; each series has a specific list of items they can drop, or they could drop an Unusual hat (a regular hat with a special effect attached to it).
Series #2 have better items: Their normal items are new weapons (Black Box, L'Etranger, and Shortstop), and there is one more hat dropped from them than from Series #1.
Edit: Rumor has it that Mann Co. Supply Crates are on their own drop timer. That brings us up to three drop timers: One for normal items, one for hats, and one for supply crates.
I've been thinking about getting this game. You guys think I should get it or think that I should spend my money elsewhere?
Also, if I do decide to get it, should I get it alone or The Orange Box?
It's a good game, a lot of fun. You should have gotten it this past weekend when it was on sale.
If you wait until the end of December, it'll definitely be on sale again (Valve always does an end of the year holiday sale), and then you can probably get the whole Orange Box for what you'd pay for just TF2 right now. You've waited this long, do you have the patience to wait some more?
Not to mention that buying the game for $20 is kind of a rip compared to buying the box for $30. Of course, if it weren't for the box, it'd be well worth the $20, but with the box, it's a no-brainer really.
Yeah... by a whole penny for the PC version. TF2, on the other hand, is only $10 on Amazon. For that matter, big box stores that carry TF2, such as Best Buy, also have it for $10.
Still, The Orange Box contains all of HL2, HL2: Ep 1, HL2: Ep 2, and Portal in addition to TF2.
Side note: The Orange Box has been on sale twice recently for $20.19 (once when HL2 Mac came out, once during the Summer Sale). No idea how much it will be on sale for during the end of year sale.
You could also hold your breath and hope Valve does the Halloween sale again this year... last year, TF2 was $2.49 or $2.50 for 3 several hour periods on Thursday October 29, Friday October 30, and Saturday October 31 (yes, this particular blog entry has the wrong date).

Wow, I must've picked it up on deal I'd gotten it for 25 with no tax. nevermind what I said then.
I emailed Robin asking him when the Halloween event is going to start (which is when we can use the Mildly Disturbing Halloween Mask hat again (and earn the Halloween achievements on koth_harvest_event again if you missed them last year)), but he has yet to respond if he's going to.
So who here has actually used that store. I only used it once because I REALLY wanted that holy mackral. And i still didnt buy it. I bought the sandman for $0.99 and crafted it with a refined metal a got through a trade(it was for 2 crates)
I've used the store about twice now. Gotten a Name Tag, The Rocket Jumper, Zepheniah's Greed (Dark Green) paint, and two Secret Saxtons.
The only thing I don't like about the store is the key and crate idea. I know crates can be used for trades to people willing to put down $2.50 to risk getting a normal weapon or one of the Unusual hats, but I just hate the fact I have to pay for a key instead of hopefully finding one out the wild.

That's just me, though.
Yeah I was going to buy keys, but I think I'd be better off trading them for new weapons.

Personally I think crates are exploitative. They're essentially gambling, since you can open one and get something that's worth less than the $2.50 you paid to open it. I'm certainly never going to buy a key, but I bet crates have been highly effective in bringing in customers. For a company that once said "you buy the game, you get the content", enticing gamers to gamble on DLC is a pretty big change. (Let me be clear, I don't mind the store. I wouldn't mind crates if they were a guaranteed hat, but as it stands there's a significant chance of getting something that costs less than the key does in the store.)
Also, it's frustrating how long Valve is taking in getting the L4D2 items rolled out. You'd think it'd be pretty easy for them to match up who owns both games and make sure the items get added.
The crate idea should be tinkered with. At least make the keys rare drops or drop at all. I understand the store is to limit people from hopping on eBay and getting actual money via hat auctions, and I applaud that, but it's just that liiittle aspect of it that pushes me away from buying those keys.
Also, there's gonna be a huge period of maintenance on Steam on Monday, so that may be when the items can start rolling out in the bulk for everyone else, even though some lucky few already have them.
Just verifying, but you did play a game of TF2 since the hats were released, right? They don't show up in your backpack until you get them as a "drop" in a game.

Play the game a good bit daily, and have been since the hats were released last week. Never got them as a drop. :C

Yes, multiple games, and I've gotten other item drops. I also check on the site http://www.tf2items.com/ (which can check items that are technically in your account but haven't been placed in your backpack yet. My Sam & Max items showed up like that when I checked before I went and played.)
I wouldn't have minded the Vita-Saw though, it's new and shiny and I don't have it. Plus it looks interesting as i'm always right-clicking to activate my uber at the exact second I buy the farm
When that countdown finished and I saw that Equalizer it actually made me feel queasy and nauseous that I wasted £2 on it

Got a Napper's Respite (Pyro) from the Series #1 crate and Pugilist's Protector (Heavy) from the Series #2 crate.

No. They have to be online to trade.
I noticed and filed a bug report on it, as well as reported it on the TF2 Bug Reports thread on SPUF.

Get the whole box. Definitely my best gaming purchase ever.
Streamin a game. Highlander.

Amazon had it all the way down to $20 for the PC version at one point. I have no idea when it went back up or why.
I emailed Robin asking him when the Halloween event is going to start (which is when we can use the Mildly Disturbing Halloween Mask hat again (and earn the Halloween achievements on koth_harvest_event again if you missed them last year)), but he has yet to respond if he's going to.
Last year it came out at the last minute and lasted until well after Halloween. I'm assuming that it will start earlier and end sooner this year.

This is incredibly silly.

I'm gonna go ahead and assume "8AM PST" actually means, when roughly translated to Valve Time, "Later this evening."
almost the same.
1st: Black paint
2nd: Vita Saw
