I've recently proposed some changes to the forum rules... a whole lot, to be precise.

"DO NOT REPLY TO SPAMBOTS" is in there.

Is there a rule to acknowledge me as the official TTG Forum World Champion?

As TTG Forum something at least... wait, let me take a look again.

    Ah, there it is. Geisha.

So we can't have fun responding to the bots, but they can flood the front page on an almost daily basis now.

What we need are some deputy temp mods to go spambot hunting. Five bucks an IP address.
  • edited October 2012
    Ooh! ooh! me! pick me!

    Just kidding.

But seriously, I'm kinda not kidding really.

EDIT: That's better. A mod is on now.

Would upgrading the forums (as was previously promised) actually fix this?

In any case, we need better human verification than we apparently now have.
  • edited October 2012
With the number of spambots on this forum, you could make quite a bundle as a deputy mod.

And by quite a bundle, I really mean be able to afford an indie game. Maybe a mainstream one if it's a busy week.

Seriously, there needs to be more (and more complicated) Human Verification fields, at the account registration page.

There also needs to be e-mail address confirmation. I just created a test account to see if it would, and it doesn't.

Perhaps they could design the forums to require email confirmation before any posts can be made. But at any rate, apparently the current CAPTCHA box doesn't work well enough. Perhaps they could have an easy verification (so any idiot can buy a game) but a more complicated human verification for posting for the first time on the forums. It could even be something simple, yet still requires a brain to make sense of it.

Problem with CAPTCHA is that most bots can circumvent it by delegating the CAPTCHA to a real person.
  • edited October 2012
    How about something like this?

    http://portal.areyouahuman.com/installation/vbulletin

    bED5Q.png

There is also Question & Answer Verification (https://www.vbulletin.com/docs/html/humanverify_questionverify)

or how about using the http://www.stopforumspam.com/ bot database?

    or even Captcha2 http://captcha2.com/

that still requires manual input for creation of the account, which means that each and every account would have been deliberately created by the user. If that user is trying to spam dozens of forums with perhaps multiple accounts per forum, that still requires a lot of human interaction. I think it more likely that some bots have updated their software to overcome CAPTCHA.

I've got a good idea for a CAPTCHA: Play all of CODENAME:Iceman. If you can beat it, you get forum access.

So I'm sure you guys remember my copy of Monkey Island 2, complete with everything but the code wheel.

    DSC02900.jpg

Well, now that I've gotten it signed by Ron Gilbert, Tim Schafer, and Dave Grossman...

    2012-09-16203553-1.jpg

...I decided I was tired of it being incomplete. So I bought some grommets on the way out of work today and took matters into my own hands.

    2012-10-03170429.jpg?

I think I might've overtightened the grommet a little (I was trying to be careful, but it still doesn't move as freely as I'd like), and I didn't really get the hang of cleanly cutting out the windows until the end, so I might have to do it over again.

    I have no regrets.

Political debates :-(. When I want to hear some childish personal attacks and pledges that'll never be kept I go over to see my goddaughter and her siblings argue over their Peppa Pig scooters, at least they're funny whilst at it.

I drowned it out by listening to Gotye and watching The Completionist.

The next debate, however, will be drowned out by superheroes.

The thing that's bugging me most about the US debates is the politicians today talking about who won the debates.

A lot of them are talking about how Mitt won because he had some good one-liners that attacked the president. That's a ridiculous thing to say. This is a political debate, which is supposed to be two (or more) people talking about how they plan to run the country. Who made funnier lines attacking the other doesn't matter. It's not a rap battle.

Those are Republicans saying that. Everyone else is wondering how Romney could so blatantly lie, it's like he doesn't really believe the faith he claims to be a part of.

Yeah, my Republican friends keep on saying how Romney will create more jobs and stuff. My response to that is... how? And is it worth all the other shitty things that are part of his platform?

Because he's a politician marketing himself to decent god-fearing folk? If he doesn't tick the GOP's boxes to appease the profile of their grassroots supporters, man on the street voters and big business financiers then it's hardly worth them having Romney as their flagship product. It's worth saying the Democrats are guilty of all the above as well, they're just not as obnoxious a party.

I greatly dislike that the perception is Christian = Republican or Republican = Christian. I also am annoyed that Republicans are using my faith as a political tool just to win votes.

Are these Republicans Christian? They might be, but there's no way to really know. They might go to church now and then but that doesn't say anything about anything.

Is Obama a Christian? Well, he might be. He did get a lot of flak in 2008 for what his overly inflammatory Christian pastor said. But he's a Democrat, so let's call him a Muslim because that makes more sense.

I always thought Colbert put it best by saying that the common propaganda was that Obama is trying to destroy religion in this country... which is ironic, given that he's also a secret Muslim.

Trying to sign up to Dave's website to stream it as Freeview is unwatchable outside of Belfast in N. Ireland, it'll also be the only way to watch TV outside of expensive subscription stuff by this time next week -_-
