Hold on, just let me get my time machine and I'll get back to you.

Seriously it's too soon to make any justified comment. It LOOKS interesting, but until I actually get to play it I must reserve all judgement.

I'll still get it though, because it's Nintendo, and it's a handheld, and they've never went wrong with a handheld. Plus I need my Pokémon fix.

I think it looks pretty decent. The amount of classic remakes it's getting means it can't be that bad! Plus, if the 3d effect sucks, or is painful long term, it can always be turned off. I just hope it doesn't cost too much Anything over £200 ($305)for the standalone console would be far too expensive. It may be ultra-snazzy, but it's a handheld, that will likely get bumped and scratched and will likely need to be replaced in 3-4 years.

So far it looks great. 3D photos will rock as soon as the 4th of july hits again i mean 3d fireworks to stare at when it isnt the 4th of july i mean cool.

I am unable to judge yet. When it was initially announced I was certain that it was a horrible idea. After the E3 presentation I want one. That is not to say it is any good.

As I stated in another thread, the thing is a bonafide beast. Graphically it is stronger than the wii & is capable of nearly match SOME PS3/360 games (that is if the screenshots don't lie)... but in the end it will come down to the games being made for it (which if, you look at the list, are for the most part incredibly strong titles. As long as it stays in the $150-$250 range I am a guaranteed buyer.

I personally don't care much about the 3d effect - its the remake of Ocarina of Time that sold it for me.

Yeah, but can it produce better graphics than my toaster?

...sure it can. Oh! I get it! You're talking about 80s games on the PSN store and Xbox Live Aracade!

Maybe is your toaster those new HD toasters I keep hearing about.

I got it at a garage sale for $5. It makes toast. Have you ever seen the Wii make toast?

Wait, I thought we were comparing consoles based on what kind of food you can prepare with them. Isn't that why they say the PS3 is the best?

It's definitely interesting, although I think I'll wait until some more interesting titles are announced. Remakes of N64 games aren't that exciting so I'll stick with my old, pink DS for a while longer.

Ocarina of Time 3D is going to be awesome. I loved the original and I'm going to love the remake even more.

The 3D effect looks cool, but how exactly will it work. I mean, I could play a game at any angle, so how would it know what angle I am playing the game at. It might be annoying playing games in 1 angle.

3D effect would be cool if it's as great as Nintendo some some reviewers say it is. However just a new DS that's not a slight upgrade makes it better.

    Is that a joke? :p

This is an in-game screenshot of the MGS game on 3DS. I compared it to a screenshot of a MGS game on PSP and this is LEAGUES ahead in graphics.

it's being fitted with a gryoscope and motion sensors so I'd have thought it'd be pretty possible to alter the camera accordingly. Console looks groovy though! want to remain sceptical of it but then I was of the Wii and look how that turned out.

Screen shots look immense as well for a hand held, high hopes!

...and a 3D remake of ocarina is gonna be sweeeeeeeet!

3D gameplay without the 3D glasses, is it? That's... something else alright. How they've managed that's unreal.
  • edited July 2010
I'm reserving judgement on the 3D aspect until I can actually see it working in person. The actual device and the rest of the hardware does impress me and I can see me finally replacing my DS Lite.

It looks barely better than PSP. Sure, it's leagues ahead of what DS was, but PSP was launched over 5 years ago with graphics rivaling that.

Also for the MGS 3DS one they had a team of like 6 people do for a short while. For the PSP one they had a full team and full development cycle to work with it.

Look at the new RE game. Capcom has said those're all in game screens. I'm trying to find the trailer for it.

Sorry, but there is no way that is in game. 3DS is more powerful than PSP, but only to the extent that Wii is more powerful than PS2.

So you are calling Capcom liars now? The proof is in the footage...

The Demo isn't really on the 3DS. Yes it might be the technology behind the 3DS, but as long as I don't see it on the screen itself I'll stay neutral about it.
Besides, the RE screenshots could be pre-rendered cutscenes.

The video of Kid Icarus looks about the same as what the Wii can handle graphically, so no, there is no way that either of those videos could possibly be real-time in-game graphics on 3DS.

I beg to differ. That looks like a blocky PS2 game, 3DS looks easily like something on the 360.

Here. Here's a better comparison picture.

You are judging the system's graphical power by one game? Well by that logic, I guess the 360 must be weaker than the PS2 because Two Worlds looks like crap...
Just because Kid Icarus' graphics look like those of a Wii game (which is impressive in its own right) doesn't mean that those are the limit & no game can ever look better. Plus considering not all games would require 3D, there are games that could just disable it altogether to free up processing power for even better looking games.

I would like to also draw your attention to the following 2 articles

It's not fair to judge a console's capabilities by a first party game made by the company designing the console?

Also, if you read the rest of that first article, they go in detail about why those claims are illogical.

Oh, and the second article points out that the 3D tech is going to take up a significant chunk of processing power. I think it's pretty bad that they're scaling the power back simply to allow some games to use an ugly 3D gimmick.

I'm going by what Capcom themselves have said.

Also, this is Nintendo. They don't care about graphics in their games. Many of their first party games are often beaten graphically, especially launch titles.

First Party doesn't mean anything... I don't even know why you think it would. There are 3rd Party games that are better looking than 1st Party Sony & Microsoft games, so how is Nintendo any different?

used one claimed that the 3D effect was awesome & added to the games. Not to mention that it won't hurt gameplay one bit... so in the end what does it really matter (well unless you are such a graphics whore that you have to have graphics matching or surpassing the best looking 360/PS3 titles before you even touch a game... & for the record, I'm not saying you are)?

You know what all of those titles have in common? NONE of them were launch titles.
How is that different from Kid Icarus? Kid Icarus IS A LAUNCH TITLE.

So even if you apply that logic, then Kid Icarus is STILL in no way a representation of the system's power.

Kojima himself has said the 3DS is a powerhouse capable of PS3 quality models

As for you thinking 3D is ugly... well that is your personal taste & arguing over taste would be a stupid & pointless thing to argue over.
