All the rumor and speculation can finally come to an end.
During Nintendo's presentation in Japan today, the company announced the 3DS will go on sale in Japan on February 26, 2011. The unit will cost 25,000 yen ($300). The system will be available in Aqua Blue and Cosmo Black.
Nintendo did not provide a release date or price for European and North American territories, but stated those plans will be announced later through Nintendo's overseas branches.
So yeah, a price that translates to $300, but according to some comments, the Yen price is always higher than the European/US pricing, so it's expected that in the US and Europe it will cost around the same as the DSi XL when it came out.
Release date February 26.
Now for the news that caused me to need a new pair of pants. It involves...a certain Megaman series on 3DS.
damn I came in here thinking we were talking about software (3D Studio/MAX) oh well...
last handheld I bought was GBC. I find there are better games on PC and they will usually run on my laptop (especially in the future when I get the $$$ together to get an i7 laptop) maybe I'm a snob, but I felt I outgrew portable game systems around 15 or so... (not counting WORMS on my phone, of course )
I don't think it's something i'll buy at launch. It depends if theres a "Trade in your DSi and get a 3DS for £100" offer or something, that counteracts the benefits of waiting. I got my DSi for £70 instead of £150 at laucnh that way.
It also depends on the launch line-up. I only want Paper mario, Star fox, mario kart and Zelda. If none of those are available at launch, it will be atough sell.
As for the GB Virtual console, it's a great idea (one that should have happened with the DSi), but the pricing has to be rightt. I'm not paying anymore than 800NP for a GBA game. And no sneakily changing the points value (Nintendo points bought on the wii cost £7 for 1000, whereas on th dsi they cost £9).And It needa to support WPA internet encryption, and prefferably have a unified account/transferable purchases.
Even so, they're remakes of great games, and not to mention
-Kingdom Hearts
-Resident Evil (2 of them)
-Professor Layton
-Kid Icarus
-Paper Mario
-Mario Kart
-Obligatory Mario and Zelda games that you know will come out
-Promise of even more games from SE
-A Shin Megami Tensei game
-A Persona game
-Portable virtual console
-MEGAMAN ****ing LEGENDS 3
And that's before the thing even launches, and unless support for the console magically vanishes completely after it launches there is no way for it to go but up.
One Gamestop knew nothing (surprising, right?). The other Gamestop I called knew about the March date and everything announced yesterday, but he didn't know when they'd start taking preorders. He guessed after Christmas, but he wasn't sure.
The more I think about it, it's less than six months away. That's not that bad.
How's this for compromise? It was an awesome game that was badly made
It was an awesome PS1 game; but it sucked on N64. And Megaman Legends 2 was way better. Lots of fans enjoyed it and want more, myself included, and on 3DS with improved gameplay it should be amazing.
Oh and new video of many of the launch games in action; including the RE game and the MGS game.

It was the same game on N64 as it was on PS1, so I don't know how it could be awesome on PS1 and suck on N64, but the game was so bad either way that I never even cared that it had a sequel. I'd rather play the terrible ZX games than Legends.
And by improved gameplay, I really hope you mean "entirely different and not horrible" gameplay. Because MML was one of the most horrible games to play ever. It would be like trying to play Monkey Island by throwing beanbags across a 30 foot room to click on things, that's about how awkward and unintuitive the controls were.

Question on why I was quoted. I admitted there were flaws ( didn't say which version because both had the same flaws ) but despite the flaws I found the game, and still do, to be fun. All it was was an MM Third Person Shooter, but it was at the time where TPS' weren't as functional as they are today as developers were still learning proper camera and character movement for third person view.

I just quoted all the posts that had to do with it, I didn't really take issue with what you said or anything.
I now want this for one more reason. Megaman Legends (Rockman DASH) 3. I tried to convince a friend of mine about this one now. His response is that he hopes it's not majorly controlled with the Touch screen.

You got knocked down once and quit didn't you. Because outside of that, that is the only frustrating thing about the controls at all. The camera was much worse on the N64 and the controls as well because the game wasn't built to be played on an N64. With a PS1 controller it controls fine and the camera is much easier to manage. I admit when I first played it I hated the controls because of how much I would get knocked down then raped by enemies; but I gave it another chance and really played it and it grew on me. But I also played it first on the N64; I play the PS1 version now and I can notice a big difference in how well it controls.
Later on you get rollerblades and can skate everywhere, plus jump REALLY high...etc. And using the rollerblades is one of the most fun things to control ever.
Pardon my fanboyism, but I think the 3DS looks revolutionary. I espcially can't wait for MGS, RE, OoT, SF64, and other games that I can refer to by acronyms that make the titles almost unrecognizable.
A 3DS is a 3DS. Calling it a DS makes you wrong. Because its a 3DS. Not a DS. There is a 3 at the beginning at the title - but there is also plenty different about it. For one the graphical difference does make it a different system or else-
GCN = N64 SNES or NES with better graphics.
PS2 = PS1 with better graphics.
PS3 = PS2 and 1 with better graphics.
PS1 = N64 with better graphics.
N64 = SNES or NES with 3D graphics.
DS = GBA SP with 3D graphics.
SNES = NES with better graphics.

I am asking what is revolutionary about upgrading the graphics. Please read my posts more carefully in the future.
Erm... and glasses-free 3D. That's kind of a big feature.
Also, I guarantee this "feature" will look horrible and that almost every game will look better with it off. It's also a monumental waste of processing power.
Glasses-less 3D *is* just "improved graphics". I mean what changes the device, um, significantly. Other than railroading a significant chunk of processing power that can be used to run better games and using it for a parlor trick that makes things pretty. I mean, not to be rude about it, but there's really nothing there that has value in terms of better games.
I thought the common opinion of the people that've actually seen it in action was quite the opposite of what you're guaranteeing.
The common opinion is also that Wii's motion controls (and DS touch screen controls) add something to a game other than annoying and inconvenient hand jiggling, often just replacing buttons with complicated gestures, so popular opinion does nothing for me, to be honest.

Well you know around christmas is the worst time to save money.
I don't know about that. Most of the games people are excited about are remakes!

Besides it's called hyperbole.
damn you ALMOST had me, I saw "Megaman" then I saw "legends" Now it was MegamanX Complete Anthology It would be hard for me to say no...
Also "Portable Virtual console" --- isnt that exactly what this thing *IS* going by the list of games?
Are places already taking preorders? If so, WHERE WHERE WHERE?
Also only the Japanese release date? I have been waiting months for the release date only for it to be japanese release dates. Come on
Well. You're wrong.

Probably by the end of next week, or soon after.

Seems to be this thing's catchphrase. 3D gimmic aside, it looks like it's just a platform to re-release older games on...
Though while we're dreaming, Anyone want to see a *classic* Metroid Anthology? (i.e. pre-prime)
