The store I work at just received our initial shipment of 3DS systems today. We received 40. We have presold 2. I am thinking the consumer interest in the 3DS is not so strong.
Oh god, I hate using a touchpad.
I put it to you sir that because you work is not a specialist boutique your traditional sales are undercut by specialists like GameStop et al,the supers like Wal-Mart and super duper websites like Amazon

The store where I preordered my 3DS are all sold out. Luckily I got to change from the blue to black before they did!
I'm sort of worried though, it doesn't seem like Australia has any good release day games.
It's not just Australia. Nobody is getting good launch titles. That's why I don't care about preordering the thing in the slightest. The games I would actually want it for are down the road a bit.

Yeah the ONLY "good" games were street fighter and nintendogs plus cats.

I chose Street Fighter.
I haven't chosen mine yet. It's a toss-up between the very short (less than two hours i'm told) but awesome pilotwings resort, or the longerlasting, but old port: StreetFighter IV. Hmm...
I'll see what Gametrailers has to say (not based on scores, but I take into account the gameplay and the criticisms they make). I might decide not to pick one up at all!

It helps for me that ive never played a Street Fighter game so this isnt a port to me but something new:D

I'd be the same, if I hadn't recently picked Street fighter IV up for ipod touch for £0.59. Sure it's not the best version, but it's basically the same game, just £29.50 cheaper.

The presell program is nationwide at Toys R Us, meaning that any TRU that presold a 3DS was taking them from the same pool. The fact that we had a whole 2 presells, and received 40 units, is pretty indicative that TRU as a whole had way way more units than they presold, since my store is a very low volume store. In fact, my manager had assumed we would receive almost none unless we presold them, and that the presells would be gone pretty quickly, and was really surprised that we received that many.
I think he means people already paid for it, but they'll only get it when it's released.
To preorder a 3DS at Toys R Us, it's $20 down, and then the rest within 7 days of release to ensure your system is reserved (though I can't picture us selling through 40 consoles in any short length of time, at least not at my store).

I think part of the problem is that people still percieve it as yet another DS revision. It was mentioned as such in a recent business studies lecture I was in, as an example of an extension strategy. The majority of the class just agreed with the person, and spent the next couple of minutes ranting about it. I just bit my tongue and listened. Afterall, it's not my job to market the thing! Plus, if it starts of selling poorly, they'll push some releases (such as zelda and star fox, which are basically finished, apparently) forward, to intice people to buy it.
the cursor just has to stay visible at the top-screen all the time and no matter where you put the stylus or where you click with it (no button needed), the cursor has to stay in his old position until you start to "drag" the stylus.
i could live with that. would be just like using a mouse.
Except that is not what people want to do when playing a point & click game with a stylus. The whole novelty is that they want to actually click on it themselves. Using the touchscreen as a laptop touchpad mouse is just annoying. The DS is a tablet with a screen on it not a touchpad mouse. Otherwise what's the point? Sure it could work that way but nobody wants to work that way.

True, but playing a point'n'click on the go in 3D isn't something to sniff at either. They could theoretically put in a touchscreen only mode to please everyone.
@DrRocketGenius: That for some reason, was absolutely hillarious.
So, ignoring the spambot, 3 DAYS (and some hours)!
Yes. One day! (and some hours)
For once, it's awesome to be a European gamer!
Incidentally, apparently GAME have dropped their price in-store to £209.99. Which is still £20 more than every where else, but it's still pretty good. And the Ubisoft games will be £25 on Friday only.
1 day 9hrs here:p my copy of pilotwings came today. Its fun to look at but that gets old quickly, could try forcing it into a DSi
Im still debating on my 2nd game when i pick up the console. I wanted to save Okamiden but got kinda hooked and finished it so Which 3D game that i dont want, do i want?
Not sure about rayman, cant find any info anywhere. If its just another straight port of 2 im not bothered but if its something similar to OoT upgrade i might be tempted. Or monkey ball? Only played a bit of the gamecube one, does story mode provide any challenge later on, or is it easy to breeze through in a few hours? Need something that keeps me playing a while

If it's any help, Rayman (and Ridge racer, asphalt, sims, Madden, Super Monkey ball) will be £25 in GAME on friday only, apparently. If that is so, I'll be getting Pilotwings and Rayman as well. But unlike you, I resisted the urge to play okamiden (well, I don't actually have a DS anymore. But I would have anyway, honest! )
Rayman 3D Is apparently just a port of the Dreamcast version of rayman 2, with voice acting (I can't remember if that version had Voice Acting or not.) Apart from that, I don't think much has changed. Officialnintendomagazine.co.uk will have reviews up of all the launch games tomorrow.
I might just stick with Pilotwings, if it gets a bad review, or if the price is above £25.
"We polished the characters and the level's visuals thanks to the capabilities of the console. Finally, we used stereoscopy to create more immersion so that the player really has the feeling that he or she is diving into Rayman's universe."
Thanks for that Friar, might have to pop into Game and pick up rayman. I see myself getting bored of pilotwings fairly quickly and an improved rayman 2 sounds like a good shout. Ive got some crazy trade-in deal for my XL with HMV for £109 which also nets a £20 voucher. If HMV are charging RRP for Rayman ill save the voucher and go to GAME.
Im annoyed i spend my 20mins at the event playing zelda and pro evo and not more launch games. Pro would normally be a no brainer for me but the new angle was really difficult to play. Only recently dawned on me that the bottom screen would probably be a radar in the final build and the demo was difficult without it. Looks like pilotwings and rayman with pro evo a week later for me
Apparently the £25 GAME pricing is only for those who attend the midnight launch. Which sucks. Still worth a peek I guess. There's no way I'm paying £40 for rayman 2 3D.

(was it here I saw that? Oh well)
and for all you USians
(I would photoshop an image of the 3DS hovering over Termina field with an evil grin, but I'm too lazy.)
I wish i had my pirated photoshop installed now

My legitimate Photoshop to the rescue!
It came out okay.
That's what that "report" button is for. I don't even usually look at this thread and just happened to stop in and saw it.
Like whether or not they can top this?
Yep, that's from last years E3
@GuruGuru: There's a report button? Why have I not seen this before?!
@DrRocketGenius: That's awesome! Now, if you could morph the moon's face into that of Reggie, you would gain much Kudos.
The moon should be popping out of the 3DS. Just saying.
That sounds absolutely terrifying... but I sort of want to see what it would look like. I'll try.
Nuh-uh... because you can't see the 3D effect through your computer screen.
^Awesome cover up
