I'd like to point out that circle pad plus support was clearly just an afterthought.

Sure, I already knew it just mirrors the controls but in practice it doesn't really work very well.

(I wish Nintendo could patch in a fix to be able to use both stick to aim and move. It would fix everything)

The problem is with the bulk of the pad and how you hold it.

The extra bulk and weight makes it very uncomfortable to hold on the right hand side.

The only way I got it close to feeling right was changing aiming to the face buttons, using the left pad to move and the right trigger to fire.

But of course the face buttons make aiming a bit slow and is not fluid like the touchscreen is.

Trying to use the D-pad to aim and the pads to move is again, very confusing.

Trying to use the touchscreen with the pad plus is just too heavy.

So it looks like stand controls it is.

(I will get some use out of that stand. The PSP slim and the iphone fit on there quite nicely. Would be great for RPGs that grind too)

I have kid Icarus paid for... Just gotta wait to pick it up.

Had to pay shipping due to busy schedule, brought it up to $50.

    50 F-ING DOLLARS FOR A HANDHELD GAME!!!
Would have said "F it" and preorder Walking Dead instead, but... I got a literal 20 hour trip in a week, and... I needed a handheld game, so if Kid Icarus can last me that long, it will be worth it.

The funny thing is I am not even looking forward to KI all that much... I just like the idea of Nintendo bringing back a classic franchise... I do not even really like the old game either... I hope this surprises me though.... I already know my addictive personality will require me to buy all the AR cards I can find.

Same, I just... needed a handheld game for a 20 hour drive.

This game is NOTHING like the old game.

In fact, if anything it mocks it. Repeatably.

Even futher, the game mocks almost everything.
Its pretty self-aware. Its great. Its as if RARE made it at some points.

    Read this item description:

"Tired of pixies asking you to listen? Try these spritely orbitars on for size!"

"Its said the lightning gods created the Lightning of Judgement as a way of blowing off a little steam... Super effective in Solo and Together mode"

    "That First Town"

    Twinbellows the Ferocious

"A two headed dog (hence the name)...for Pit, the louder they bark, the harder they fall"

I think this could be one of Nintendo's masterpieces. Everything feels so fresh and fun! :D

I was a huge fan of Luigi's Mansion. Very few haunted house games around. Actually, are there any others? And I don't mean in the Alone in the Dark sense.

There's a Haunted Mansion (the Disney one) game for the Gamecube. It's actually pretty good.

I usually have to wait until after work to pick up my games...and I really wish Nintendo would offer retailers early demos. Umm...yeah sorry.

There's Haunt for the Xbox 360. As a bonus, Tim Schafer is the voice of the narrator in it. :D

I missed the free Club Nintendo card giveaway.. I was sad.

I'd like to point out that Stars can be converted into booster packs!

    250 stars for 2 packs.
(So 12 cards for 250 stars)

I just converted all my stars I had, (3500), into packs.

    3500/250 = 14 * 2 = 28
    (2 packs of 6 for 250 points)

So hopefully I will have 28 packs come in the mail.
    Thats 168 cards!

Well, it was either this or the Hanafuda cards, and these are so much cooler.

(Besides, the reward program is usually crappy anyway... :/)

EDIT: Yep! 168 cards for free. I am indeed insane!
I hope they have a list somewhere, so I can see how far I was off from getting all of them! XD
  • edited March 2012
Nice... Its not a US club Nintendo reward at the moment though... I currently have 610 coins.. I have been using them on the free game downloads...
  • edited March 2012
There are supposed to be over 300 cards from what I hear.

So 168 is pretty paltry compared to the amount you would need to complete the set..

(Still can't grumble. Its free afterall! :D)

You do realise that the console is probably the cheapest its going to be in quite a while right?

I mean unlike Nintendo, Sony normally sell the hardware at a loss.

Give it a year, maybe two, then you may be able to afford one! XD

I heard there was 400. Dunno whether to spend some of my stars on packs or just save up hoping I can get something better on the catalogue. I've got 6750 stars saved up so far.

They make is sound like right now there are only 20, and there will be hundreds later.... You may end up with a ton of doubles RetroVortex..

Maybe, but on the pack it does say "starter pack" so it may be that only the starter pack is a pool of 20 different cards.
  • edited March 2012
hopefully... for your sake.... I wish they sold card packs in the store already... they would be making tons of money right now if they did... unless they are trying to create hype right now.
  • edited March 2012
    No I'm pretty certain.

I just looked on the UK version of the Kid Icarus site and it says:

    g1bGP.png

"A pack of 6 random", and "while stocks last" would indicate that these are the regular version of the packs they would be selling in stores.

Plus I don't think I can see "starter pack" on the picture, but I can't zoom in and see the text.

EDIT: I think the plan in Europe at least, is to promo those cards and reward Nintendo fans first, then release them on Retail. Probably via the same outlets other collectible card and card games are sold in.

I think its safe to assume this is exactly what they will be doing for any future Pokemon games.

I'm hoping that every future major Nintendo 3DS release will have its own set of collectable cards.

Not so much Pokemon, but Paper Mario or Luigi's Mansion sets would be AMAZING!! :D

EDIT: I wouldn't be surpised if one of the "enhanced features" in Pokemon Black and White 2, was AR card support.
(EDIT: Oooh! and with version exclusive effects! Imagine how awesome that would be! :D)
    It would just make sense.

I feel so torn regarding Kid Icarus. I really like the gameplay style, but the controls are annoyingly uncomfortable. I also enjoy the dialogue, but dislike the fact the dialogue occurs while you're playing(meaning I often miss it). x.x

Edit: Oh, and I dunno if anyone else got it, but I got a survey about Kid Icarus, and one of the questions asked whether I'd pay £1 for a pack of those cards. So they're definitely considering selling them.
  • edited March 2012
A £1 a pack isn't so bad, considering how much other collectible cards costs these days.
(Pokemon and Yu-gi-oh booster packs tend to sell from £1 to £3, depending on the newness of the set, and rarity. Normally its closest to the £2.50 - £3 mark)

I'd be tempted to buy a few packs at a time, if I had some spare change.
