    Trauma (from the HIB), Steamversion

A really good Myst-like game. A little short but since it is normally free to play on the game's website anyways you should not complain about that.
The game is coded in flash but I noticed no slowdowns on my PC. Every chapter has 4 endings and 9 more or less well hidden Photos. If you want you can rush through the game in 10-20 minutes but will take a lot more time if you want the 100%-ending.

    Rating: 9.5/10
I really like games like this one.

    Bastion(steam)
    8.5/10

Great game with an even better story. My only question story wise was
how did the Kid survive the calamaty? The narrator and Zura(I think that was the tribes neme) I understand how they survived, but not the Kid. Was it that crest or whatever

My main gripe is actually the new game plus mode. Even if that mode allows you to SUMMON PORTAL TURRENTS TO YOUR AID! Its too easy! Of course there are the god shrines which adjust the difficulty, but it feels like they didnt do anything at all difficulty wise, minus the gods, which is odd since you get all of your weapons and abilities(plus portal turrent aid) to kill everyone.

    The Binding Of Isaac 10/10

I killed my mother today. I did it with the Bible in my hand. What more is there to say? Brilliant game. Hard and unfair and only one life unless you pick up an extra life and still every time there is a new game to explore.

    Psychonauts - 7/10

Would have been higher, but the end section is still a bitch, the new shaders make a weird graphical glitch on 75% of the surfaces and the achievements are buggy (make sure you land dead on the relevant Level to get the achievement - gaining a bunch of levels and skipping it means you miss the achievement).

The humour is great and there's still a good game there, but the update didn't really fix any of the big problems, even throwing a new one into the mix (that levitation ball graphical glitch). Good, but not quite epic yet.

Uncharted 1 is was a 5/10. It was nothing new, even for when it came out and was very bland. IT was just an average game. It had fun platforming parts ruined by shoddy gunfights. It had an amazing story, but everything else just felt like nothing new, but not bad or tired. Hopefully Uncharted 2 is better.

Also, yes for me 5/10 is average.

Except at the moment, we have a curve that's been shifted so that a 7/10 is average. So a 5/10 would probably be several standard deviations below the average, making it a failing grade.

...I spend a lot of time guessing curves. Sorry.

    Tomb Raider: Legend - 7/10

Although not as full of instant-death moments as Anniversary (grr), this game still has issues, this time more relating to the controls. Lara handles more clunkily, the camera is an absolute devil and there's some very repetitive boss fights that have zero imagination to them (the sea devil creature excepted).

Graphically it looks nice, and is definitely more varied than Anniversary, but the update for the PS3 (yeah, I'm playing the Trilogy if you haven't guessed) means that the subtitles are unviewable behind the bloom, as is certain other elements of the game. The updates add a grand total of sod-all, really. It looked fine as was.

So it's not a bad game, and a huge leap from the previous Core Design games, but it's still too rough around the edges to truly recommend. If you're after a modern platformer though, you could do an awful lot worse.

    -x-

    BONUS MINI-REVIEW!

Lego Indiana Jones 2: The Adventure Continues - 6/10

It's another sodding Lego game. What more can I say?

Ok, fine. It's a step down from the previous Lego Indy in many areas, despite being more technically proficient and having more features. The problem is, the new additions either add nothing (using Indy's whip to pull platforms, or the ability to have multiple tools on you) or are hugely annoying (the new HUB system is incredibly irritating, which is odd considering how much work must have gone into making the HUB levels).

Even the achievements don't seem to have the same zest or inspiration as the previous game. There's not enough spark or energy to it, no matter how much irrelevant humour they pour into the cutscenes. It's just not as entertaining as other games in the series.

That's because of some rating sites giving every crap a 8/10 so they will recieve more and earlier test copies for games of the same company.
the achievements are buggy (make sure you land dead on the relevant Level to get the achievement - gaining a bunch of levels and skipping it means you miss the achievement).
This was supposedly fixed in the patch that was released today.

So I finished a game today.

    Psychonauts - 8/10
This was my second time finishing this game, first time after the new update on Steam. Not much has changed really. The game is still one of the best I ever played, it still tells a great story and the variety in level design still is unique. This would mean 9 to 10/10 points normally.
But there are some points that are making me rate it lower.

    - The Milkman Conspiracy is still a great level but the second time around I was highly annoyed by the level layout. The thing that makes it so special the first time around just gets annoying. Also surprise-mini-bosses aren't funny. Also the levels around the Asylum - area are a lot less fun than the fist levels of the game. I never liked the Waterloo World level (especially getting all figments there), Black Velvetopia would have been better without the bull (getting all figments there got me more than entertained after it was gone finally) and Gloria's Theatre was still quite good.

    - Second major gripe. The Meat Circus. Yes it was the final level but damned was the start annoying. I hate the kid and it's bunny so much. That part was hard enough without it shouting "Ahhh my face all the time. Also if they should have changed anything in these levels then how much damage he takes. I tried for the better part of an hour to complete a segment of this part over and over again because I could not get to the kid in time while it was corner-fucked by 3 enemies and died again and again and again causing a restart of the whole segment of the level. While constantly screaming. Thanks for that. Sure the level is meant to be hard but it was seriously more psycic terror for me. The rest of the level was good except for that one blue bunny figment I tried to get for 20 minutes. I know where it was I was getting close again and again but the game would not let me jump towards it when I wanted to.

    - Also after a second patch I got heavy stuttering problems with the cutscenes in the game (they worked fine before that patch).
    So yeah. 8/10

Oh and I got 30/32 achievements because I am unable to finish the punching minigame (this will not let me get to level 101 -> 1 achievement lost, abd I will not get the achievement for the minigame itself).

    Orcs Must Die! 9/10.

An awesome experience through out the entire game. The story was great, the main protagonist and the orcs was really fun to listen to. The combinations of traps and magic to kill thousands of orcs gives a lot of options, and watching traps work together was really fun.
The reason I don't give it a 10 is because it lags multi player, but Robot Entertainment have said if the single player is a success they will add multi player later and then I have to give it max grades. :D

Just finished Dark Souls, overall it didnt feel as polished as demon's souls-the framerate is terrible in certain places (Blighttown was a complete mess and Demon's Ruin was just about playable) but it really doesnt matter in a game where you can blast through these areas and get to the boss, while savouring the many exceptional locations which far exceed the bar set by Demon's Souls in terms of level structure and monster design. The monster design is the most imaginative and varied ive ever seen in a game, and the way the world fits together&links up is genius. Its a shame technical issues hold it back at times, but it improves upon Demon's Souls in almost every way. I hope they fix the online soon for NG+, the Smough&Ornstein boss fight was torture doing it solo, and Im never doing that again without a co-op partner! 9/10

    The Whispered World.

8/10 for a great game. Points removed for lack of widescreen, the last consonant sound during some lines of dialogue being cut off, and the the final moments seeming to allow for an alternate ending that turns out not to exist.

Also, Ribs gave the game a poor rating on Steam because he "bought a game not a movie [though the] movie looks nice."

I just have to say, Ribs, that you are a total wacko. This game was great.

Nancy Drew: Ghost Dogs of Moon Lake 7/10

Good game but I really didn't like the lack of puzzles and things to do. You are trying to find your way around the woods for quite a bit in this game. The design of the puzzles... well they are partially great and partially just bad.
Like in every ND game you get to learn something. Here: roman numerals, which I already can use...
Since this was in the Halloween sale: was this game Scary? No. The Ghost-dog scene in the beginning was cool but the rest wasn't even in the least bit scary.
The playtime was a bit on the short side (5.5 hours from start to finish).
Positive: Nancy notes most clues you need in her PDA and even combines some of them so be cautious when you check it. (It actually solved one of the puzzles for me because I had seen all the info that was needed for that, but I couldn't quite remember).
Oh and there are only 3 people to talk to on the whole island (except for phone conversations) all 3 have their possible motives for being the culprit but I didn't suspect the actual one. The other 2 seemed to have way better motives.

    The Ball

It has great puzzles that don't get too repetitive, which is quite impressive given that you only have a giant ball to push around. I'd say the game is worth it just for the puzzles they come up with, which is just as well since the story is quite disappointing.

Sanitarium: Excellent. A number score can't really quantify it. I will also be looking for weird verbal clues everywhere now.

My one gripe with this game was the controls which insisted that I kept on going up and down staircases that I didn't want to go up or down. Luckily nothing was timed, really, so this didn't really cause me to die any more times than I was dying already, but it was still rather annoying.

    Scratches: Director's Cut 8/10

That's an odd one to rate actually. It's a horror-adventure game but unlike Penumbra or Amnesia the scares are few and far between. But the atmosphere is really good though. You are completely alone in a huge manor that has been exiled for years because you need some inspiration to find an ending to your book.
I didn't turn on hints and the game really never gave me any real direction when I did not call my agent, which was needed to advance the plot a lot of times. Everything is as it should be. You find a key and will have to try every lock until you find the right one because the game will not tell you what it is for. I liked that.
But with that there are some complications too. The manor is huge and you will spend a lot of time exploring it especially since the game will not let you continue until you checked everything you can on day 1. Also even with maximum gamma correction some places, where you need to pick up an item are really dark. The item detection on a small rock was wrong so I didn't notice you can pick it up and got stuck. A quick look on a walkthrough was needed.
The scare factor was quite high. The first day you find several notes about the former owner going insane and a scary African artifact and you wake up in the middle of the night because you hear noises and I was absolutely freaked out. Let's just say the fist night was harmless in comparison to the second one that gave me the biggest scare since that one scene in Penumbra Overture....
There is a little bit extra in the Director's cut called "The Last Visit". Don't play this until you finished the game please as it will reveal certain things about the game. It's nice to see what they did with the house and the new protagonist here is fully dubbed (a thing I really missed in the main game). But the ending to it is really not that good.
Playtime: 8 hours with a few hints because I didn't find certain items myself.

The Binding of Isaac - 10/10

This is easily one of the best games I've ever played. After 60 hours, I've finally killed Mom's Heart, and the Halloween update has added a whole extra level to complete. This game is EXTREMELY content-rich, tons of fun, feels completely new every time you play, and I can't sing its praises anywhere close to enough. It's now part of the currently-running Humble Indie Bundle, so basically if you don't own it you're a bad person.

I don't think so. I wouldn't count 100% collection quests as something that is required to "beat" the game, just to "do everything possible", which I don't think falls under the parameters.

And I feel like I can safely say I "beat" Isaac now that I've killed the last boss from before the final update. The Halloween update is like a free expansion that gives new content, but I'd consider it separate from the base game.

That is the ending you get even in the DC. To get the other ending you need sto start a new game and choose The Last Visit. There also seems to be an alternative ending you can unlock.

Fragile Dreams: Farewell Ruins of the Moon 7/10
A great and beautiful game. One of the most emotionally intriguing games I've ever played. Although, it was pretty slow a few times and the combat system was pretty clunky. But not much of a hassle some people had led me to believe it would be.

The main attraction of the game is its wonderful story. Its an emotional experience about a lonely boy who sets out on a journey trough a world where most of humanity has died, looking to find someone too share his life with other than himself. Its a game about some of our greatest fears, isolation and loneliness.

I do realise that this game is not for everyone, but I would like to recommend people to at least give it a try. And you'll see that it was worth it.

Finished my NG+ on Dark Souls and completed Uncharted 3 today on normal. Uncharted really pissed me off at times. There were 3 or 4 places which checkpointed me and spawned too many enemies with little room to maneuver, with snipers, grenades, rpgs and pretty much everything coming at me. Im not great at shooters but seriously, those dudes that are immune to all gunfire and melee are not cool. I love everything in Uncharted 3 including the shooting but certain areas were too much. We dont need more games like it, but when the set-pieces are done so well it's great fun 8/10

Dark Souls can go up to a 9.5 after that playthrough, Ive been able to use the online component more! friggin love that game

    Bioshock 1 and 2.

The beginning of Bioshock 1 was really freaking me out all the time, the darkness and people jumping out in front of me in corners startled me dozens of times, but after I got past that part it started to die down a bit.
The atmosphere was creepy but really made you feel a bit damp and clammy as you walked around the leaking corridors of Rapture. The old music was atmospheric and added to the experience.
I like the combat with weapons and Plasmids, it was good fun.
The story had you guessing all the time, and added a lot of suspense.
I also liked the fact that there was moral choises, and upgrades to weapons and plasmids.
There was sound problems though, especially near the end you had to stop walking otherwise the sound would cut out.
    7/10

Bioshock 2 was equally as fun if not in my opinion even more fun that the first one. Also a tad bit harder in difficulty, but that was a welcome change.
The redone way you use weapons and plasmids worked better, and the updated graphics also looked better. The atmosphere was the same, but I was not really freaked out in this game as I was in the first.
The protection of Adam gathering little sisters was stressful but added a nice challenge to the game.
There was also sound problems in this one, when someone spoke over speakers or in my vicinity and I just turned around it would sound like it was way in the distance and I could barely hear anything and I would have to turn back to get the sound to pick up.
9/10 - I just thought it was a better experience than the first one.

Wow. This was the best adventure game I've played in a while. The puzzles were great, the story was incredibly compelling, the art style was brilliant, and the voice acting wasn't too shabby. The only things keeping it from a perfect 10 are the clunky gun combat and a couple of puzzles that were a bit of a logical leap.

Nancy Drew: Curse of Blackmoor Manor 5/10

God this game has issues! It's what you would expect from a Nancy Drew game but this time I had to go on Junior Mode instead of Senior Mode for one huge reason: I had no idea what I was supposed to do really. There are puzzles everywhere and hints very vague hints on how to solve them but almost no story to guide you along the way. I wasted 3 hours looking around and starting 2 games in senior mode until I finally gave up and started on Junior, so I would at least have a task list. The main object of the case will talk 3-4 times with you and who the real culprit is should be clear from the first time you meet her.
I also hated the minigames which are boring on Junior mode an partially impossible on Senior. The problem with that: you need to play and win all of them to get important information and items from that spoiled little brat. I didn't like Twister that much but at least you knew what you are supposed to do in that game.

    Saints Row 2 on Steam

    7/10

Pros: Very good story, variety of missions, fun side-activities, rewarding unlockables, various customization aspects, inexpensive price.

Cons: Bugs and crashes, some missions/activities are overly difficult on normal difficulty setting.
Fortunately, many bugs are overcome by installing the Gentlemen of the Row modpack.

I recommend it. Just be aware to save every so often in case the game crashes, which is not frequent but does happen.

EDIT: Unrelated to score, as ever the Star Trek fan, I was happy to hear Micheal Dorn (Worf) as the voice of Maero. :)

I never had any trouble with crashing, it was more or less the game ran like shit even though my system was above the recommend system requirements.

The game crashed for me about 4 times during gameplay over the course of my (first) playthrough. It seemed that there was a lot of ingame activity going on screen at the times that it happened, though I can't be certain that such was the cause.

Also, I had a hard time getting the game to launch at all "out of the box" so to speak, which is what brought me to the Gentlemen of the Row modpack when looking for patches. As it turned out, however, it seemed the game just didn't initially like me running it with dual monitors. When I disabled the second one, it was able to run fine, at which point I changed the game's resolution settings and it didn't have problems after that.

Other than all that, I didn't experience anything else to qualify it as "running like shit." What problems did you have exactly? Do you mean you had framerate issues?
