It's a beautiful game, and very charming, but some of the puzzles lacked logic [...] and some of the hidden items were ludicrously placed, practically forcing you to rely on the hint system. But overall, I enjoyed it
quoted for truth.
and the ending is... not an ending. It's just an opportunity to solve various of the game's puzzles again for no reason.
Seriously, I could have even accepted "Congraturation. This story is happy end. Thank you." but there is nothing like that.
By having credits and/or the words "the end" of a sort. The game doesn't end, it just sort of stops. You can interact with a few things but there's no reason to do so.
Teenagent - 7/10
Quite short (albeit longer than The Blackwell Legacy); hard puzzles which are not completely "wtf" but close; funny dialogue.
Controls are SO BAD on ground. They work fine on land
Dodging is broken. You are not invincible while dodging and Pit dodges on his own. Meaning that he can and will jump INTO attacks or off cliffs. I died more times because Pit dodgd right when I hit forward, or some other way
Some characters got zero backstory to them(
that one Human guy that was hyped, shows up for 3 levels just by cooincidence, not at all because of the story. Or Viridi, who slaughtered so many people and doesn't get any punishment. In fact, you just stop fighting her towards the end, her plans not even being thwarted.
What the crap did the alien invasion have to do with anything? You fight them for 4 levels and then that's it, they have zero connection to the story.
Honestly, minus the controls, these are minor flaws and I highly recommend this game.
This is my second or third playthrough since getting it.
The one glaring flaw of this game is how the image blurs at times, reportedly in an effort to create a feeling of greater depth to the picture. It's tolerable, but a bit annoying.
Other than that, it's a wonderful game, and a must-buy for any RPG fan.
Legend Of Grimrock
My god this game can be a dick to you some times. But then again I was searching for something like this for a long time to notice how much modern games take you by the hand. Not this game. This game is unforgiving and it doesn't care. It hits you in the face and you keep crying for more. More I say! 10/10
Botanicula
I didn't expect too much from this one. I didn't like the other games from Amanita but this game managed something special. It made me smile and even laugh out loud. Something that hasn't been achieved by a game since I played 8-Bit Is Enough. Let's just say it has been a while. I'm on my second playthrough right now searching for creature cards I didn't find the first time. 10/10
2.5 days of almost only Grimrock. That's how.
Who cares if Diablo 3 is in open beta when you have Grimrock.
Also Diablo 3 was a huge disappointment. I know which game I am not going to play in May.
Baldur's Gate II! 10/10 would play again, yadda yadda...
Yes, I finally finished it... last week. Totally forgot to add it here to my small pile of completed games but damn that game was fun. Took a bit (and a few deaths) to figure out how to not die, but that's always the best part of learning a new game. I absolutely loved the strategy elements. As a primarily RTS gamer who likes RPGs this format really worked well for me because I enjoyed being able to fully command all the skills and abilities of all my NPCs and really put them to good use, something that is often absent in other RPGs I've played.
And of course, there were parts that were absolutely hilarious. I never would have thought I would ever be turned into a rabbit in a game... but this game showed me that not only is this possible, if you end up with the Deck of Many Things, it's actually preferable.
I could play this game blind with both hands tied behind my back I played it so many times. Needless to say I absolutely love Baldur's Gate 1+2.
It took some getting used to. And I ended up using a few mods, nothing serious, just an XP evener so I could try out all the NPCs without worrying about them dying all the time as well the expanded spell progression for over twentieth level for Bards, Paladins, and Rangers. But the thing I loved about this game was that a little preparation before a battle really went a long way. I mean, I spent some time creating a strategy for beating Draconis and it was nothing short of pure joy when it worked without a hitch (well, besides the bastard going invisible right as I started my second Time Stop...)
It's things like that that make games worth playing.
Finished this last night. At its heart is a not-terrible game, but the problem is it's got several glitches that really hamper the game.
Good parts: The humour, while not perfect, did make me laugh on more than one occasion. The combat was surprisingly solid. The open-world section is fun (and very reminiscent of Postal 2). The Dude's voice doesn't completely suck once you get used to it. The cameos are fun, if random in places. The branching paths are interesting. Cover system useful... when it works. Soundtrack is actually really, really good.
Bad parts: The sheer number of weapons means you won't use most of them. The open-world section isn't available until you finish the main game. The 'bad' branching path is about half the length of the 'good' one. Cover system frequently had me standing when next to a waist-high piece of cover. Lot of random holdovers from Postal 2 that serve no point. About 6 different loading screens you will see constantly.
Ugly stuff: The achievements are screwed up (I should have had the Personal Jesus one, since I non-lethally tazered everything, but the game never gave it to me). I got stuck in walls surprisingly often. The 'make a rhino crash into stuff' levels were exercises in frustration. The game crashed for no reason several times. Piss-poor AI.
Overall, it's not a terrible game, but it's very much in the style of 'Apocalypse Weekend' as opposed to the original 'Postal 2'. There is an open-world section that's available once you finish the game, but if it's not what you're after from the off, it's a hell of a slog to unlock.
When the game wasn't bugging, I was actually quite enjoying myself. If you're interested, I'd suggest giving it a go. There's really not a whole lot else out there like this. Conker, maybe, but...
(If you do want this, grab it from the Running With Scissors store, where it's an absolute steal and the money actually goes to RWS, as opposed to the Steam version which goes to Akella, the other team who made it. Also, don't forget the earlier games in the series, and there's also a boxed version of PIII, if that's your cup of tea.)
well, this is some kind of game which is pretty difficult to review or sum up at all. It's a quite short but very funny (not so)indie game which probly could be described as Braid "xxl"light version.
The game pretty much is about playing P.B. Winterbottom hunting down cakes in several lvl (I am not kidding). Those lvl (can't remember exactly how many there were) are pretty much like puzzles where you have to figure out HOW to collect all those cakes in order to move on. Sounds lame & easy eh? Well it's not at all I might say. For most puzzles you have to produce clones of yourself using them to get the cakes (punching them with ur umbrella? e.g.) to gain hight, recording a clone to make him follow/doing things - the path you've recorded etc...in fact some lvl are really somewhat of a challenge/braincrackers.
The graphics seem to be pretty much minimalistic on purpose, not that colorful at all but it just fits.
Controls are fine even with a keyboard it's possible to play through smoothly.
The only issue I could mention here is the game's length but then again...for 2-3 bucks it's a real sweet timefiller I'd say!
I made it past the spiders only to have half of my party killed by the poison mushroom things on level four. I always get mixed up between the strafe and turn keys and always use the wrong one. Oh well, I'm getting better at it. And I got treasure!
This really is my sort of thing. This means it's really not gonna agree with a lot of people, but I don't care about those losers cos I get an awesome game.
Superbrothers: Sword & Sworcery EP 9.5/10
I really liked the album. Great songs from start to finish and quite well priced. Oh yeah. There was a game that came with it. Well that game was even better.
I really liked the Anti-Zelda aspect. You collect something that basically looks like an inverted TriForce, and as you progress you maximum HP decreases.
Think Cave Story. No, really, it's pretty much Cave Story, only with a northern poacher as the main character. Lot of exploring to do with some entertaining moves and an interesting plot. The reason I haven't rated it higher is due to some extremely frustrating difficulty spikes and an odd glitch I had that made the audio go staticy after playing for a while. Otherwise, check it out. It IS free, after all.
EDIT: Just finished it again. With the default amount of health (3). I AM AWESOME.
(If anyone else plays this and wants to know how to get the secret boss/ending,
don't kill any of the starting rabbits, any of the Blemineg (the possessed purple people with the same accent as Derek) or Baldy (the other human)
. Near the end of the game, you'll be judged on those, so stick to it! The middle one's probably the hardest, but it IS doable.)
The Witcher 4/10 (10/10)
This game gets 2 ratings from me. One for all elements and one for all elements except the moments when you have to get drunk to progress in the game. Those moments weren't fun at all and running to a nearby fireplace / place to sleep to get rid of the drunk effect was really painful.
If we take this huge annoyance out of the game we still have a really good RPG left. One of the best I played to be honest. Finally a game where they get moral choices right. You can't just pick one, see the outcome and reload. Your choices take effect much later in the game. It isn't always clear when such a choice is made but they will make you notice later on.
Even the rest of the quests are great even the grindy ones. You are a monster slayer and collect trophys or kill creatures that haunt others. For some of them you even have a valid choice. Will you kill the werewolf and use his hair to get a powerful ability or will you try to cure him which will get you support by him on several occasions later in the game. But then you lose the ability to gain that certain perk.
If only that stupid alcohol abuse was avoidable...
Nonono! You're supposed to fight when drunk! That's the fun part.
Seriously, when I started playing this game, I would purposefully get drunk and then stagger around at night and wait for monsters to attack me so that I could have these crazy ass fights where I would have no idea what I was doing. It was great.
Of course, I also had Geralt try to offer all the hookers severed tongues and then hit on all the old ladies.
A word of warning, though. Never try Fisstech. It just knocks you out and then people jack all your stuff.
Edit: I nearly forgot why I came in this thread. I finally finished Legend of Grimrock! Fantastic game, though the boss fight at the end freaked me the hell out. As I mentioned in "whatever", my standard response to the boss approaching me was to scream and then fall down a pit. Made the fight a wee bit tedious.

I can relate to that. Because I did the same.
Also I'd never use a drug in a game if I can avoid it. So no fisstech for Geralt.

I tried it because I thought that it might behave like being drunk but only for longer so that I could have even crazier fights. But I was wrong and lost about three hundred gold as a result. After that I just stuck to drinking all the alcohol I picked up and watching Geralt slowly stagger around.
Also, Legend of Grimrock. The end boss fight would have been much better if there weren't those stupid scavengers scuttling around and boxing me in. Then, I might not have felt so compelled to jump into the first pit I found. I would have preferred to have four or five slowly respawning Goromogs or something running around instead of the little bastards we got.
Batman: Arkham City 9/10
This has to be the best action game I ever played. For 38 hours. (including getting almost all Riddler trophies). They did the same thing as in the previous game: Create a world full of things for fans of the comics / series. Unfortunately the DLC packs are quite useless right now. I enjoyed some of the Batman costumes but they cannot be used before you complete the main story. Bullshit!
The challenge maps & character bundles (nightwing & Robin) are completely overpriced. Even on sale. If they did something similar to the Catwoman DLC it would have been fine.
Did I ever do one for Infernal: Hell's Vengeance? 'cause I finished that yesterday. For the third time. Bloody non-stackable achievements... But anyway.
Infernal: Hell's Vengeance - 6/10
I was debating on whether to give this a 6 or a 7, because the core gameplay's actually pretty solid. it's your standard third-person shooter made by some "never heard of them" European developer, but it actually plays pretty well. The shooting is solid, the tactic of absorbing corpses to regain health and ammo helps drive combat forward, the abilities you gain throughout the game are entertaining to use and the plot... well, it's hilariously bad.
It's been really awkwardly translated and voiced by people who aren't entirely comfortable speaking English (though thankfully the main character is pretty competent), meaning you have a supposed Russian antagonist who says every line without a hint of emotion or accent, brilliant lines from the enemy forces including such gems as "Strike him dead!" and "Assault - over and out", and an guy who may be the Devil or just a demon... it's never made clear.
The reason I didn't score it higher is that the XBox version of the game suffers from some awful aiming, there's NO autosaves whatsoever, the plot's incredibly confusing and, worst of all, there's no shotguns. How do you have a third-person shooter without shotguns? FAIL.
It's not really a bad game but as a follow up to the second best game of all time it's just disappointing. Everything that made the first game good has been changed.
° The first game had a perfect length for what it was. Portal 2 is 3-4 times that long
° Puzzles could be solved in several ways --> not in Portal 2
° You had to think --> You just search the single white spot on the wall and try what it does
° Don't get me started on what they did to GlaDOS. She had 3-4 jokes that she repeated until they weren't funny any more. Murderer, fat, adopted...
° The commentary was awful in Portal 2. Just compare it to the one in the first game where they explain every design decision that they then changed in Portal 2. Seriously listen to the Portal 1 commentary you can learn a lot about good design of a 3D puzzle game from that one. NBot in Portal 2 though.
There were sections in Portal 2 that I just don't need. The worst section is the one where you manipulate her death traps. You just follow the blue orb of annoyance without any choice. They even make this section completely dark so you must follow him.
This game starts to shine in the second half though. All thanks to one man: Cave Johnson! He is what I wanted GlaDOS to be in this game. Also the gel tests were extremely cool. Once you get the white gel you can have so much fun covering the whole level in it. Man was it good. But then they got GlaDOS back into the game and it goes downhill from there again.
They start holding your hands more but at least blue annoyance-orb gets a little less annoying. His test chambers offer a challenge once again. At least a few of them. Then they stop those for yet another escape segment where they commit this atrocity. Really? I tested it. You cannot fail this one as long as you shoot a portal at the (again like so many times) only white panel you see.
Why create these big exterior levels when you just make the player search for the on white wall that he must shoot a portal on? That's a complete waste.
Now that they made the level creator DLC finally the game delivers on well designed test chambers (and a lot of utter crap ones...) that actually made you think because the creators of these didn't feel the need to change them if the testers didn't get the solution in 2 minutes.
Well the game still had a lot of good moments and no matter how many times I see it the turret opera still gives me goosebumps all over when I see it.
Well here we are again,
Reviewing Portal 2 now,
Remember when tried to play it twice?
Oh, how we laughed and laughed,
Except I wasn’t laughing,
Under the circumstances I’ve been shockingly nice.
You want your fanboys take them,
That’s what I’m counting on,
I used to want play you,
Now I only want you gone.
Now I only want you gone.
Now I only want you... Gone.
Edit: Man was I looking forward to playing this game. It was the first game I installed and tried on my new PC just to create a shiny BSOD every time I started it because my processor was to new. Thanks for that.
B.U.T.T.O.N. -1/10
This game is making a strange mistake. It thinks a normal gamer has at least one real life friend to play this in local co-op. This is wrong. Gamers have no friends.
To increase the rage there are some stupid achievements to get.
° Be lucky: there is a 1 in a million chance to get this achievement. Good luck.
° Play the game actively for 8 hours
I played it until my keyboard crashed and wouldn't accept any button presses any more. That took 25 minutes.
Torchlight 2: Beta -/10
Only chapter 1 available, level capped at 21 and I had so much fun blowing mobs to bits. On the same level as Diablo 2 & even better than the first one. Simply fantastic but still has a few bugs with the levels. Had a bad placement of 2 rocks with my first character that blocked my progress completely. Second try only had a few monsters spawning out of reach. They are working heavily on fixing those bugs.
No rating since it's still in beta but what I saw looked and felt great. Just the ARPG I have been waiting for since I got tired of Diablo 2 and they cancelled Mythos.
They will start a server stress test tomorrow. Apply for it (after the stress test the beta will be over!)
cool game really fun the controls were a little fussy but other than that its a good game it would be nice if they did a second one id totally play it:D
You could always go play the first one. It's a bit dated now, but I just have to mention that Madness Returns IS a sequel to McGee's Alice.
I recently finished Alan Wake. I actually enjoyed it quite a bit. Yes, the combat system gets a bit tiring, but I think this game had the perfect amount of weapons. Too many games these days suffer from giving you too many. I might be a bit biased because I got my shotgun though. Except for a few dialogue choices, I found the story fairly immersive and well done. Let's say 8.5/10. Things could have been better...but it was fun.

Think Cave Story, only about an hour long with practically no story and a wicked sense of humour. It's glorious.

I demand a recount.
Well I could pretend that I wrote that blindfolded and with both hands behind my back.

great fun. fantastic 3D platforming.
I've heard that Super Mario Galaxy 2 is better, so I'll have to purchase it soon....
I beat the game as Mario a long time ago but now I have completed it, with 121 stars obtained as Luigi.

Edit: Man was I looking forward to playing this game. It was the first game I installed and tried on my new PC just to create a shiny BSOD every time I started it because my processor was to new. Thanks for that.
So, this playthrough I also finished today. Took about half the time, not surprisingly.
