I'm psyched, since this is my first new Doctor. I can't wait to join in the online forum discussions about how this new guy isn't as good as Matt Smith.

They've turned the whole bloody thing into a chat show. A fucking CHAT SHOW. And I absolutely despise chat shows like this, because they have a feeling of utter unprofessionalism* about them that just irritates me.
What the hell was wrong with doing it the way Matt Smith was announced, with pre-recorded interviews and discussions from people who actually mattered? It was a good way of doing it! We didn't have all these bloody cheers and whoops from a freakin' audience all the bloody time, we didn't have all these 'celebrities' chiming in with their thoughts on things, and we didn't have Zoe Bloody Ball!
Zod, I miss the old days when the dude just regenerated and that's how we found out who the new guy was.
Well, I'm disappointed that I didn't turn out to be the doctor.
But yeah, Peter Capaldi will make a fine doctor. I loved him in Children of Earth. I can't remember him from "The Fires of Pompeii" though. I shall have to rewatch it. It seems to be the go to place for hiring new people for key roles.
It's nice to see they went for an older guy. I would've loved to have seen Russell Tovey as the doctor though, although I guess his part in the show (as Alonzo) was probably too high profile for the actor to be re-used.
Oh, and the show was cheesy as hell. I thought I was watching Most Haunted Live for a second. I kept expecting them to try and draw what the next doctor would look like.
And that cheesiness is what stopped me from watching it (until my parents yelled for me to come down right when they FINALLY announced who it was). Hell, even then it was pretty damn hokey.
...so yeah, rather appropriate, given the shows heritage.
You can if you want. Just be prepared for some incredibly foul language (and to split your sides - it's very funny).
I'd sooner recommend Torchwood: Children of Earth. He's in that as well (he's Mr Frobisher), and he's excellent in it. Plus, y'know, it's Doctor Who related, so bonus points.
Now all we need is for Moffatt to bite the proverbial bullet and start writing stuff that isn't dumbed down for the kiddy-winks. Kids love violence and misery, just as long as the hero does hero stuff at some point during it. And if the hero's sad at the end, it probably won't even register with the very young. I know, because I remember being a little kid and loving Jurassic Park. Violence didn't bother me as long as Grant saved somebody and taunted a T-Rex.

Exactly, the kids loved David Tennant, and he was always moping.
Well, I already like him. Maybe it will scare off some of the idiot fangirls who only want a "hott" Doctor.
Hot with an extra "t", huh? Are you dropping hints?
So yeah, after being told he was in Doctor Who before, I'll be honest, my first response was "when?". So with that secret 9th regeneration, I guess that means this is really his 13th regeneration. Isn't that supposed to be the limit or something?

No one cares The Master broke the limit but The Doctor has to have 13 lives?

Technically yes, but they've left plenty of get out clauses (That was a rule imposed by the now gone timelords, River giving all her regenerations to him to save him, plus it is reasonable to assume that if it was a biological limit, it was lifted in the time war, to allow them to die over and over again in battle.)
Also, the master broke the limit, but he stole some living guys body to do so. And had to try and steal the doctor's lives to continue in the TV movie.
Personally, I think he's a great choice. I can see this incarnation being darker, and spawning the Valeyard.

Also The Time Lords gave the Master more regenorations in the Time War thats how Derek Jacobi was able to regenerate.
Also in the Matt Smith episode of Sarah Jane Adventures the Doctor said he could regenerate 507 times
Obviously that was a Joke but it could mean that the 13 regenerations might not really be the true limit...
I don't think they really want to end with this Doctor and may find some excuse...
Speaking of darker (spoilers for both Fires of Pompei and Children of Earth):
In the edition of Torchwood Declassified accompanying Children of Earth, Russell T Davies suggested that, since they are played by the same actor, Frobisher may be a descendant of Lucius Caecilius Iucundus (TV: The Fires of Pompeii) and goes on to note that, in a sense, Frobisher's killing of his family brings closure to the saving of Caecilius' family in the earlier episode.
I doubt Moffat would bring any of that baggage into it, but it's interesting
As for the regeneration limit, I don't mind them going beyond 13, but 11 certainly seems to feel that his overall time is almost up, so I'd like to see the limite addressed directly if they're going to expand it

Also, WHY CAN'T IT BE 7PM?! I can't take this waiting any longer!
Yh she can't hold a time candle to him.
Please just announce him to stay on...
It did say introducing John Hurt as The Doctor!
I mean, I CAN, but I really don't want to.

*Is this a word? This needs to be a word.
He played Frobisher in torchwood and the Dad in Fires of Pompeii.
A little unexpected (I don't think I'll ever get the image of Malcolm Tucker out of my mind), but I can see it working.
Can say I'll see the ladies going gaga for him in quite the same way as the others though!
William Hartnell has fan girls.
Glad it's an older guy though.
I love the 11th but he looks like he will fit...

DISGUSTING!
HOW DARE THEY?!
I'M LITERALLY ANGRY WITH RAGE!
I'M GOING TO COMPLAIN TO THE BBC! START A PETITION!
Who's with me? I turn over to BBC2 after watching "Doctor Who Live" only to find they've replaced "Porridge" with bloody swimming!!

"How can you go from Matt to him.. I am done.. horrible choice. Its like Clara will be working with her grandfather now. -_-"
"From Matt to whatever this is.. ew. He could at least be good looking. Just no."
"But Why does he have to be old. He Might Hurt His Back While acting,"
