I'm sorry. The new console could be the best thing since sliced bread, and it may have the best games in the history of ever...
But Wii U?
Bite me, Nintendo. Stupidest name ever. How the hell do you expect to be taken seriously if you can't even come up with a proper name? You just take an old one and shove a letter at the end? Not even a number - a letter. And a stupid one at that.
"Flash storage" has me worried. If the thing is going to be anywhere close to affordable, flash storage is going to have to be limited, even when compared to the spinning drives in the Wii's current competitors. I know tech can go down in price over the next year, but it's a pretty massive difference in price per gigabyte right now.
Another issue with affordability: that controller can't possibly be cheap. I wonder(and worry about) what corners they're going to cut to compensate.

No, no of course not. You can do something that's tons of fun without involving Who in any way at all. I'm sure you have some urgent fun to get to.
I can see it now: Batteries not included. OH the humanity!

Or, I could be doing another Who-related activity. Like having a marathon of every new!Who episode. Or building my very own TARDIS out in the backyard.
Summary:
Mario Kart 3DS has gliders and vehicle customisation
Luigi's mansion 2
Zelda concerts sometime soon
Free zelda soundtrack CD when you register OoT 3D
Zelda Links awakening goes onto eShop tonight
Mario 3DS is sort of halfway between 64 and a 2D game.
Wii 2= Wii U
Has a controller with a touchscreen that works a bit like an extended desktop
Backwards compatible with wii games (so you can play them on the controller if you want, whilst someone is watching a TV show)
Decent Core line-up
Lego city stories (essentially lego GTA)= wiiU/3DS exclusive
Wii U = 1080p on the TV (but 480i on the controller)
The wii U controller has loads of sensing equipment (motion, cameras etc.)
And the big announcement (for me): Smash bros 4, on 3DS/WiiU. Versions interact (possibly like the pokemon games do). No additional info on that.

Also, what will the maximum capacity be? Will it be SDXC with a 2TB maximum? SDHC's (current) maximum capacity is 32GB.

They said it will be expandable with USB as well. In that case, as long as you can plug in a SATA drive in an enclosure that converts to USB, you could drop in 2TB on a spinning drive for $100.
My worries are less focused on expansion than they are on base console space. If they don't include a couple hundred gigs on a base model, how do they expect to expand their online content delivery strategy? Sell only to people willing to buy large drives completely separate from their consoles at an extra cost?
Sure. It's my understanding that Nintendo, being foremost a Japan-based company, is concerned with the physical size of the console. It has something to do with how, in Japan, real-world space for stuff is a premium. This is shown not only in the size of the Wii console, but also the size of the GameCube and the fact that it has a handle.
Now, granted if this were an issue they could always include a laptop HDD internally- which is considerably smaller than a full-size SATA drive- but that would increase the price point and I'm not sure Nintendo wants to do that.
Paper Mario was barely mentioned. It appears it is called just Paper Mario. what. And the demo will be one of 10 demos out by the end of the year. That was it. That was all I wanted info about, and instead I got information on some shitty tablet that plugs into the TV.
You're missing the point. IT SOUNDS STUPID. Even more so than 'Wii'.
I do have to ask if there is anyone who works in Advertising/has any idea of basic Linguistics at Nintendo. The two Sylables do not match, and doesn't roll off the tongue at all, making it harder to market.

Yeah, There is no tansition between the words like, for example, the phrase "China and Japan". You unknowingly add the sound segment /r/ after "China" for the ease of pronounciation. What can you add between "We" and "You" to make it easily prononced?
I can't wait to see how Yahtzee is going to spoof "Wii U"
Yes, Indeed. I can see why they named Wii. The console was made for a larger audiance = We = The normal people. But Wii U does sound stupid.

Well, "Wii already as the beginnings of the "You" sound, so you can just as easily pronounce it as WiiOo (going straight from one word into the other)

... Yeah, I guess you're right. But it somehow still doesn't sound right ...
Putting that matter aside, What can one say about it's meaning? We & You?
hmm ... Maybe it stands for;
We (The Casual Gamers)+You (The Hardcore Gamer) ...
To me, the reasoning behind the name instantly reminds me of the Scene in Simpsons where Homer is visiting some TV studios to get them to change a character name, and they explain the reasoning behind the show's name "Police Cops". "We thought, what do people like most? Police? Cops? Police Cops." It just seems like they put far too much thought into the name.
Also, why WOULDN'T you want to sound like a siren?
Not a bad year. Sony had a great show, but I'll always be a Nintendo guy at heart so they won. Wii U is still a terrible name, though.
And now, for the rest of my predictions.
Shiggy demos a new game, probably not Skyward Sword
Reggie is still a boss - Duh.
Project Cafe
Name
Controller
Launch Games - Not really.
Pikmin 3 - Maybe next year...
GTA5
3DS
Suprising new games - Well, one...
Kid Icarus release date
Super Mario release date
Paper Mario release date
Mario Kart release date
Animal Crossing info - Not part of the presentation, but it's there.

Nintendo's press conference got me excited about Nintendo again after giving up on them. We'll see how it goes. At least there's a LOT more third-party interest. We've known for a while now that the Wii U will have better graphics than either the PS3 or the 360 (the 3D tech demo video with the bird and the fish looked spectacular). Now all that's left to figure out is if their online delivery system will be improved. If both Nintendo and Sony have consoles with AAA cross-platform titles and free online play then Microsoft is going to have to bend and stop charging for Gold accounts.
Another thing I'd like to know is if it's compatible with Gamecube controllers. I read that it is compatible with GameCube discs but that's useless if we can't use the controllers to play them. And it wasn't mentioned in the specs anywhere. I'd also really like to know what kind of storage possibilities it's going to have. EDIT: I guess the GameCube backwards compatibility rumour wasn't true. It's not listed anywhere
Also, finally we get Game Boy virtual console titles for the DS. Should have happened back when the first DSi launched.
Luckily the Dsiware stuff I got (which is great they carried that over since I didn't have a DSi) divides decently from those figures.
(got 20p left over from £20. A lot I know, but Shantae, Dragon Quest Wars, and Tetris Party are pretty good value and should last me between releases)
Plus it doesn't save card stuff (and option to would be appreciated Nintendo ), so you have to keep entering your card details if you want to buy more stuff.
Yeah, I spent a while poking around Nintendo's site but only found odd pieces of video. Right before I came back to check the forums again, I found the page you linked me to.
Luigi's Mansion 2 WOOT! I am officially getting a 3DS now... Now my list of dream game sequils is down to 3, pikmin 3, banjo-threeie, and tomba 3...
(lol they all have 3 in their titles)
Banjo Threeie came out a while back, people don't treat it as such because it did what Paper Mario did and made it a radically different but still wholly enjoyable game. That said, really glad Paper Mario is back to form.
When Ocarina of Time: Master Quest was announced, I thought I might have to pre-order The Wind Waker to get it, even though I didn't own a GameCube yet. Luckily, I got a GameCube for Christmas before I had to make good on that intention.
Now it looks like I'll have to pick up Ocarina of Time 3D when it comes out, even though I don't have a 3DS, if I don't want to pay through the nose on eBay to get the soundtrack.

NO! Banjo-Threeie was only the devopment code-name back when it was meant to be an actual sequil, it then became something completly different... so it's NOT banjo-threeie, it's not meant to be banjo-threeie, and i will NEVER acknowledge it as such!!!

Except I found it more enjoyable then the first two games, and it was still a platformer, albeit a vehicle-based one.

Two pronouns.
...I can't believe I missed that.

Wow. Thats pretty pricey, even if it is Zelda.
They should make the virtual console stuff a bit cheaper really.
It puts me off it.
Besides I can play gameboy games on my Caanoo if I really want to.
The worst part? The minimum top up value is £10.
Tell me about it!
Luckily the Dsiware stuff I got (which is great they carried that over since I didn't have a DSi) divides decently from those figures.

Yeah, I found the press packet now, but thanks. Swimming in Animal Crossing? Interesting.

Because you're not looking around enough?

Try here. It's on a constant loop, so you'll probably jump in in the middle.
Or Try here, and jump in at around 30 minutes.
