I skipped over the Microsoft conference, I didn't expect much from them(not a fan myself)...
As for the other two Sony won BY FAR imho... The Vita is likely going to be MUCH more powerful, and much more portable than the Wii U, and I can't see Nintendo beating $250 given that absurd excuse for a controller(which I think will probably need to be connected via WiFi to the console in order to do anything actually demanding, though we wont know until specs come out). Aside from the four or five games over its lifetime that will actually do something creative with the controller it will just be another piece of plastic lying around your house(I don't know many people that still use their wii(at least for wii gaming), even the die-hard fanbois).
I'm predicting that within a week or two of release we will see DS and DSi emulation out of the Vita... Heck even PS2 isn't out of the question at this point(depending on the clock speed, wikipedia says up to 2GHz, putting it right up there with PS3). And that price... $250??? for a pocket-able PS3? That is the stuff of legends lol.

The reason people don't play the wii anymore is simple. It hasn't got a constant stream of decent games coming out every month for it, like the other two. That's because it's dying. It's suffering because it is underpowered, something WiiU will change. That doesn't mean that there weren't a whole host of awesome games that came out for it, just that there aren't anymore. Those games are still out there, and you will get your money's worth out of your console if you buy them.
Secondally, Wii U will almost certainly be more powerful then the PSV. Heck, It's almost certainly more powerful then the PS360. Also, I wouldn't expect the PSV to be as powerful as the PS3 (despite what they say). Yes you're getting ports of PS3 games, but you have to remember, ports can be downgraded too. Afterall, they ported modern warfare to the wii. Also, the WiiU isn't a handheld. It just features some of the benefits (besides, most handheld gaming is done in the home anyway).
Thirdly, the reason anyone buys any Nintendo console is for the nintendo games.

Personally i think there is a big difference between devices which need to be fed by batteries or accumulators and those which don't. The more of such devices you use, the more it gets on your nerves. For that reason i a.o. still prefer a mouse with a cable connection, just to spare another battery/docking station.
I'm sure there will be games which will be fun on the Wii U and which make proper usage out of the input possibilities - Pikmin 3 - but you don't only want to play the same franchises from Nintendo over and over again and it really depends how much effort third party developers put into this. The Wii wasn't shining a lot in this respect.
Secondly and as i wrote already this more seems like a step in between. A precise and fast working Kinect is a lot more innovative, interesting and flexible. Beside of the for todays standards rather weak gfx and the again too low mem specs the hardware seems to be okay, good enough for many enjoyful games but it's also not next gen. Multitouch, gyroscope, camera input is also known from the smartphones and tablets. The new thing is that it will be combined with compareable higher hardware specs but i think it can miss the sweat spot for people because tablets and co already deliver a compareable gaming experince with lower specs/prices and once Microsoft or Sony will come up with a new console the Wii U wil feel like a last gen console again. I'm sure Nintendo will introduce some nice abilities out of this mix but i doubt that i'll really need them.
On a first view it looks like they put everything good together in one console but the more you think about it, the more this seems to be the wrong direction, at least for a console which wants to take things a little bit further. I don't like how Kinect was used until now but again this direction has a lot more potential than combining a dozen of different input possibilities in one bulky looking controller - not saying that it feels wrong in your hands though.
Heck, It's almost certainly more powerful then the PS360.
haha, good one!
Seriously. The tech demo they showed was really really bad looking. I wanted someone in hte audience to yell out 'This would have been great four years ago!'
It's suffering because it is underpowered, something WiiU will change.
...until Microsoft or Sony's hardware launch.
Seriously, the specs seem to indicate a graphics card that is equivalent to a modern day mid-range PC gaming graphics card. Microsoft and Sony will leapfrog that and the WiiU will be in the same place long-term.
Also, I wouldn't expect the PSV to be as powerful as the PS3 (despite what they say).
They never said that, and in fact have directly placed it in a place somewhere between the PS2 and PS3. What you're referencing was saying something entirely different, that the system supports complex lighting, shaders, and other modern effects that are used in PS3 games.
Thirdly, the reason anyone buys any Nintendo console is for the nintendo games.
NES and SNES had really nice third party titles. So did the whole Game Boy line, and even the DS has a fairly large amount of third party support, especially next to its direct competitor.
And if people only buy it for Nintendo games, then why the fuck do you care if it's "dying" to to being "underpowered"? As long as Nintendo makes stuff for it, who gives a fuck if they essentially give a middle finger to third parties with their hardware design and online policy decisions? The thing is, people buy game consoles to play video games, and no single company is capable of providing an entire library.

They showed loads of tech demo's, showing off different features of the console. The Zelda one does a great example of showing off the quality of the picture. If that's the level of the graphics, I'm more than happy.

Woah, don't get me wrong, I'm not hating on the PSV. I just disliked the tone of the posters post, slamming the WiiU and seemingly glorifying the PSV.
Let me clarify my stance on the matter. I'm sure both systems will be great for those who buy them, but the main selling point of a nintendo console is the nintendo games. Other then that, why not get a PS3/360? Afterall, they are bound to be cheaper. After three generations of home nintendo consoles where the majority of decent games have all been Nintendo ones, I would have thought people would have got the message by now.
Also the power thing is the core reason why the wii is dieing. The third party support has dried up (as they have to put a lot more effort into downgrading a port), and that's a major source of revenue for Nintendo. Frankly, that doesn't bother me, but Miyamoto has also gone on record saying Skyward sword will probably be the last major title on the system.
I think we'll be seeing a huge return of third-party titles on the WiiU. I expect to see almost everything on it from Skyrim to the next Final Fantasy. We're already getting Arkham City, Aliens Colonial Marines, and Ninja Gaiden 3 among others announced as launch titles that were mentioned at E3.

That seems....unrealistically optimistic, to me. Or at least highly optimistic without any real evidence on the matter.
Telltale is tweeting that they are showing Jurassic Park and Puzzle Agent 2 to the press, as well as talking about The Walking Dead, so we may finally see some info from these games later.
You can't say a lack of power is the reason for developers leaving, look at the PS1/PS2, there were games coming out for them up to 10 years after launch, some even longer, what killed the wii was the controls, and I don't see that changing just because they've added a touchscreen to the mix. As for power they have released next to nothing, so you are simply speculating, whereas with the PSV, if you look at the specs, it should be capable of ~2GHz per core x 4 cores is about equal to the PS3(~1GHz per core x 8 cores, and yes this is an absurd oversimplification but going into latency between cores is not going to change much) in power, looking at CPU only. Nintendo may come out with the specs and surprise me with something as powerful as you say, but I just don't think its that likely.
And yes I do idolize the PSV, I think it will be one of the greatest consoles of this generation, portable or not, that is my opinion and I understand that. However, as I said, given its power it should be able to(once hacked) run at least games up to the PS2/XBOX generation.
That seems....unrealistically optimistic, to me. Or at least highly optimistic without any real evidence on the matter.
No evidence? Maybe I'm being a little optimistic, but with the current wave of third-party interest in the WiiU I can only imagine that its support would grow with other developers following suit. There's certainly no evidence against it.
And what's the big fascination with the PSV? I never watched the Sony press conference but I watched the video of the PSV unveil and I just...don't get it. It looks great, sure. About as great as anything else. Why is it so special? Am I missing something?

My personal love for it comes from what will be available once it gets hacked. I'm thinking things up to and including PS2/DS emulation, maybe even DSi and many other consoles... That and the two joysticks for fps games, that was the only thing that kept the PSP from being a perfect console for me... Oh and the price, at the same price as a current gen console its quite an absurd amount of power that you can just put in your pocket...
So unless you're a big fan already it's not as impressive. Was never much of a Sony fan. I have a PS3 for a Blu-Ray player and free online play (which I never do). I did enjoy God of War and Kratos' appearance in Mortal Kombat, though.

I don't see how being a fan of it has anything to do with it. I think its more if you are a fan of gaming in general, by PS2/DS I meant that era... including Gamecube and possibly Xbox, that means you could potentially(this is all assuming it gets hacked, and they aren't lying about the architecture) play any last-gen game from any system, in your pocket. I don't get why others can't see how huge that is, no portable device before has done that...
Emusan, the thing I have against your comment is that the PSVita is a handheld. The WiiU isn't.
I know, originally I was comparing the two announcements, saying that the PSV's price announcement was, imho, a better announcement than that of a newer Wii...
That is an appealing concept....assuming it can be hacked at all.
And yes, the WiiU is not a portable device. There is no hardware built into the controller at all. The images are streamed from the game console without latency.

Yeah, that was the main dissapointing thing for me, that controller is BEGGING to become a cool little tablet PC, but the fact that you will have to use it within range of the base console is just a little bit of a bad decision in my mind.
Please don't think that I'm a Sony fanboi(I'm actually a staunch PC Gamer), I just love new hackable things(I don't think it will take to long, given the time it took the PSP to get hacked, and it looks like Sony might be moving from XMB to something with less hack-proofing). My main hope for the WiiU controller is that someone finds a way to cram the guts of some console(n64 perhaps) into there a la Ben Heck and then it could be truly portable...

I would just like to point out that emulation never works out that well. It uses more resources then it did on the native console. Which is part of the reason the PS3 doesn't play PS2 games anymore (they got away with it originally by basically building a PS2 into the system.)
As for one announcement being better, it all depends on what you were excited for. If you weren't overly excited about the NGP, then it's price isn't overly exciting. Similarly, if you weren't fussed about the wii 2, then Wii U wasn't going to be overly exciting.

I know about emulations problems(the rule of thumb is about 20x more power than the system you're emulating, though you can go down to about 10, I could run all the numbers but I don't think thats the topic of this thread), but PS3 is able to do software emulation of PS2(one of the versions had it included, not sure which)... And I actually wasn't that excited about any e3 stuff this year, mainly because I never thought I would be able to afford the NGP(predictions were over $500 originally lol), and I didn't even know what Nintendo would be announcing since I kind of lost faith in them after the 3DS(another topic lol)... But again, thats just all my opinion...
Basically, a software controller which reacts faster than light.
What was meant, obviously, is that the controller is not rendering images on its screen utilizing its own hardware separate from the console itself. It is utilizing a very low-latency connection to the console, one that is low enough that the latency itself is effectively nonexistent. Yes, there is latency(there has to be) and yes, the controller contains hardware, but it's not that hard to interpret the post as intended.

I think we should just agree to disagree. It's really to early to tell which thing will be better. I maintain optimism that the WiiU will be able to provide an intriguing new way of playing games, whereas the PSV will offer something closer to what gamers are used to, which is a safer bet (nothing wrong with that at all. )
I guess the reason the Wii U interests me most is the ability to play both wii and WiiU games (and possibly Gamecube and the VC back catalog) in my hand. I'm no longer the kind of person who enjoys big screen games as I'm far too conscientious of forcing others to watch/listen to it, which is why now a days I really only play portable games, or ones on my laptop. The Wii U will allow me to get back into home console gaming, and breathe new life into the games I already have. That is, if it works properly.
Yeah, that was the main dissapointing thing for me, that controller is BEGGING to become a cool little tablet PC, but the fact that you will have to use it within range of the base console is just a little bit of a bad decision in my mind.
Yeah, because everyone wants to have to pay for four tablet PCs in order to play Super Mario Bros. with their friends.
So there you go people. You only need one...and if it breaks, you're screwed. Cha-ching authorized Nintendo repair.
Cons: That.
No "Splitscreen without the splitscreen"
Pros: I dont have to buy 3 more for multiplayer with my family
first time in a while you can have 5 people at once playing:D
I had a feeling it would just be the one. For a console that is still geared towards younger kids(yes, I know they support adult games much better this time), you can't give them that controller realistically. Just watch, games that are rated for young kids will probably have an option not to use it.
Just watched the Madden footage at Gamestop. "we have tweaked the superstar mode"...I'm assuming that's a technical way of saying "fixed".
Fine. I meant easily hacked. Like the Wii. Or to a lesser extent the PS3....sort of. I'm not into installing mod chips and being banned from online accounts.
I thought they were talking about being able to play Madden Football games with the playbook shown on the controller (even the Dreamcast did this for each player with a VMU.) They also said that, during multiplayer matches in games, whoever has a WiiU controller will have a distinct advantage over those using a Wiimote. So, which one is it? Seems they're shooting themselves in the foot with this.
In the gamespot interview, the EA rep admitted that they haven't even had a chance to touch the hardware yet. They were just speculating at the possibilities.

It's common sense that they wouldn't have game footage from third parties yet. I thought the footage from the third parties titles looked a little lo-fi compared to the actual WiiU tech demo footage. The WiiU looks better than that. This isn't stupid of Nintendo, they have no other way of going about it. And rushed? I sad this is a long time coming. So they may not have the best system by the time Sony and Microsoft catch up, so what? At least they'll probably be back on their game (pardon the pun).
There's a big difference between the way video graphics look and gameplay graphics look. Until they show real game footage, I don't care about the Wii U. People can hype the bird scene but all it showed was that Wii U displays HD. I just have a feeling that they arent exactly going far enough to get rid of what made the Wii "childish".

first time in a while you can have 5 people at once playing:D
Just watched the Madden footage at Gamestop. "we have tweaked the superstar mode"...I'm assuming that's a technical way of saying "fixed".
Everything ever made can be hacked. Most things are hacked within a few days of release, these days.
WHAT??
I thought they were talking about being able to play Madden Football games with the playbook shown on the controller (even the Dreamcast did this for each player with a VMU.) They also said that, during multiplayer matches in games, whoever has a WiiU controller will have a distinct advantage over those using a Wiimote. So, which one is it? Seems they're shooting themselves in the foot with this.
Stupid Nintendo. Make up your minds.

I can't help but feel that Nintendo rushed this out without much need given that the other two haven't even announced intentions yet...
