Hmm. Can I be tempted by Superfrog?

    ...hmm.

EDIT: The answer was "yes", in case you wondered.

Me too. I played it on my Amiga many years ago, and thought it was pretty good. According to the reviews on GOG it seems to have held up well. I also bought Patrician 1 + 2, since I loved the first game when I was in my early teens.

It's always yes with you. Well, unless it's no.
Ah, but I didn't buy any of the Worms games. Partial restraint! I'm so proud of myself.

EA grew common sense, and will let inXile release Wasteland 1 on GOG. And Steam, but this is the GOG thread, so it gets top billing.

    EA grew some sense

Fixed. Let's not get too excited here and start saying things we may regret.
  • edited August 2013
who would ever play that though? And how. how do you play that.
  • edited August 2013
Speaking of EA being uncharacteristically nice, the rest of the Wing Commander games are scheduled for release by the end of the year. And apparently there's good news on the missing EA expansion pack front.
  • edited August 2013
Enough about EA being nice all of a sudden, it's deal time! Your regularly scheduled Classic Gem Promo this week is 60% off Anvil of Dawn. Also, Etherlords 1, Etherlords 2, and S2: Silent Storm Gold Edition are 50% off for a week, to celebrate the release of the Russian language version of each game.
  • edited August 2013
Wohoo, finally! English translations of those games SUCK. At least in comparison to the original Russian versions. Especially the voice acting. Nival was hiring really awesome voice actors for their earlier games like Evil Islands and Etherlords 1 and others (heck, so far I haven't heard voice acting in a game that's better quality than the original Evil Islands one, that one's just amazing all over the board, not a single voice that doesn't fit, not a single line that doesn't seem said right), all of which was totally botched up in the English translations.

Even if it's only a technicality, today's release is still a pre-2000 classic release so... progress, I guess. The Lords of Midnight, the 2013 port of the 1984 classic, is now available on GOG for $5.99.
  • edited August 2013
Your indie gem promo of the week is 50% off Reus. You know, in case you didn't grab it on Steam for trading cards.

GOG jumped the gun a little on the weekend deal, so here it is. It's Dungeons and Dragons again. You know the dril, the more you buy, the more you save, up to a maximum of 75% off.

Edit: And the progress was shortlived, with today's release of Wargames: European Escalation. This package comes with the base game and four DLC packs, all four the launch price of $9.99.

    Ditto!

Hey, there isn't a second weekend deal, but there is a pre-order. Pre-order Amnesia: A Machine for Pigs for only $15.99.
  • edited August 2013

I don't think anyone told GOG yet, they're not saying anything about it on the actual site.

In other news, classic gem promo this week is 60% off Chaos Overlords.
  • edited August 2013

I think this is a pretty fantastic idea.
(One I hope one day I might be able to take advantage of! ;))

People argue that this will lead to GOG publishing a lot of crap, but actually I don't see it being that way because GOG have a pretty good standard of quality when it comes to indie.
(Most of the BAD games are old games, and usually part of a series for completionist sake)

I could see some devs jumping from Desura for more potential exposure for sure.
(I'm not saying Desura is bad or anything, but I guess the appeal of GOG is that these indie games can sit next to the classics which is a pretty flattering though in a way :) )
  • edited August 2013
Given the recent purchase of Desura, I could easily see devs jumping ship when it becomes essentially a Second Life storefront.

Anyway, in today's GOG release news, you can get Shadowgrounds Survivor for $5.99. OK GOG, you can be honest with us... did you just run out of pre-2000 classic games? Are you just making more money off of the newer games and day one releases?

A bold move from gog. But, I believe, a singularly correct one. gog has always advertised as "DRM free revolution". Giving developers actual advances on their royalties, that might possibly not be unheard of, but it still is prrrretty revolutionary.

The Indie Gem Promo of the day is 50% off The Night of the Rabbit. Please be aware that this does not have a German translation, but then again, watching Hogan's Heroes has taught me that all Germans know how to speak English anyway.

    edited August 2013
Also, the German kid's voice acting is... errrrrr...

...let's just say you're actually better off with the second original language of the game. ;)
  • edited August 2013
Wait, could it be? Yes! Yes, it's a pre-2000 classic game, the dark times are over! No, no, don't get excited just yet, it could be a fluke, and they'll go back to all indie, all the time next week. Whatever, Thunderscape is on GOG now and it's $5.99. Also, Hammerwatch is available on GOG for the launch price of $7.99. And, for the people who still don't have copies, we have The Witcher and The Witcher 2 on sale for a whopping 75% off.
  • edited August 2013
Put on your best thinking cap, it's time for the Thinking Gamer's Delight weekend deal. Take 50% off things like FTL, Zafehouse Diaries, Overlord and the Age of Wonders series. And, obviously by sheer coincidence and probably not a cheap tie in with this next news story, Age of Wonders 3 is coming to GOG.
  • edited August 2013
It's a special classic gem promo today on GOG. As far as I can tell, it's the first official sale of Wizardry. You can get Wizardry 5&6 and Wizardry 7 for 50% off each, or 60% off when you buy both of them together.

GOG's pulling out all the stops for their 600th release, so let's get right to it. Returning to the service, after the developer had a hissy fit over rights, are Dark Fall: The Journal and Dark Fall 2: Lights Out. Both games are still $5.99. And now, the 600th game. From a time when Origin wasn't the name of the worst digital distribution platform of all time, we have Wing Commander: Academy for $5.99.

Edit: Dark Fall 2 appears to have been upgraded to the Director's Cut edition. I don't know what that means for it.

It's time for another day one indie game that I don't understand the appeal of. It's Shelter, the mother badger simulator, and it's launching for $8.99. Oh, and Don't Starve is half off for the indie gem promo of the week.

Oy gevalt! Better hurry up with that Witcher 3 so they have something worthwhile to release on their platform. :(

Welcome to your Thursday GOG releases. Today brings us Guacamelee: Gold Edition, the acclaimed Mexican Metroidvania title that you really should already own. It has the launch price of $13.49, and comes with a free copy of Tales From Space: Mutant Blobs Attack. Our second release of the day is... Tales From Space: Mutant Blobs Attack for $7.99, or free if you buy Guacamelee for the next week. And we have another technically old game with The Chaos Engine. The 2013 updated port of the 1993 top-down run-'n-gun can be yours for $9.99.

I was craving for the Chaos Engine. Now that I see it, however...

they've hardly updated anything. The graphics are practically the same, the higher resolution didn't result in any new detail at all. This is the same game. Then again, the interactive Richard Joseph soundtrack alone should bring you to give this game a try. 10 bucks is a lot to ask for though...

...eventually, I can't NOT own this game.

p.s. If this has absolutely the same gameplay and you play in single player: Your virtual partner is too darn stupid to not get himself killed again and again until you seriously upgrade his intelligence for later levels. Don't waste the money. Choose one of the dumbest partners out there (Thug or Heavy), let the monsters kill him off three times in level one, don't give him a new life and just go for it alone.

Hey look, another thing. Pre-order Shadow Warrior for $33.99, and get an exclusive, in-game katana based on the one from the original game. Speaking of, you will also get a free copy of the original, much more racist, Shadow Warrior Classic Complete.

    £34? Wang's expensive these days...

...wait, that's dollars, not pounds. $34... about £22. Hmm.

Are you bummed that summer is almost over? Well, yeah, because summer's almost up and we only just now find out that TWAU has been delayed until the fall. So to help alleviate some of that disappointment, have a bunch of games from Blue Moon Red Owl and Digital Games Factory for 60% off. Err, I mean, enjoy the Fading Summer Favorites, and totally not just the catalogues of those two developers... for 60% off.

Last day of the old forums, you'd think I'd have something interesting to report for the classic gem promo. But nope, it's just Omikron: The Nomad Soul for 60$ off.
  • edited September 2013
I dunno... it's from the guys bringing us Beyond: Two Souls, after all.
  • Why did I need to go into my recent comments to find this thread? Weird. Oh well, first day of the new forums, and GOG brings us Megabyte Punch, which appears to be some kind of customizable robot/Smash Bros. game. You can get into the N64 style action for only $11.24.

  • The Lovecraftian Portal-like, Magrunner: Dark Pulse, is 50% off in today's Indie Gem Promo.

Harlan Ellison, or someone pretending to be him because his website looks like it's straight out of Geocities, says that I Have No Mouth is getting a rerelease by way of Night Dive.

  • And this is kind of why I wish the forums still had an edit feature. Just a few hours after I bring it up yesterday, boom, I Have No Mouth and I Must Scream is now available on GOG. The game is $5.99, and comes in a variety of language packs. Germans be warned, though, the German language version is unwinnable due to censorship.

  • Gibbeynator: It does, but it's only for three hours.
