Wow, it is impossible to make some of you guys happy isn't it? For the past month-ish, all I've heard is "I'm not upset it was pushed back, just that they haven't given us any information." So, now we have the information, but even that isn't good enough? You seriously couldn't pay me enough to be a game designer and have to deal with all the whining. This is why I don't have children.

Are you sure that's the ONLY reason you don't have children?

    You need to understand why.

    XBLA typically updates on Wednesday
    PSN typically updates on Tuesday

These are viable reasons to hold the release back a few days, as far as we are concerned with telltale. However the important chunk is:

    Steam updates every day
Telltale controls their own servers and can upload files at any time

SO! The only (sensible) reason the game isn't out RIGHT NOW (or weeks ago) on TTG's server or on steam would be to keep the releases close together for PC and PS3/Xbox. If this is the case, why can't they release it tomorrow with the xbla release? (This question may have a valid answer, but too bad we don't know because telltale won't fill us in)

Beyond that, xbox users can't preorder the episodes or buy a season pass, when PC gamers were REQUIRED to buy the season pass, so the entire market of people who have already paid for episode 2 are being excluded from tomorrow's release. Maybe they're hoping the anxious annies will pay the 800 microsoft points to get the game 2 days sooner (more revenue)

Additionally, they cite that the certification process for the consoles is what takes the release date out of their hands. So the xbox release essentially is what held the game back for so long, when the PC version has been sitting compiled, complete, and ready to release, and XBOX gets the first release to drop? Not cool.

This is why PC gamers are upset.

This. It's not the two day wait. Fuck sake I waited patiently this entire time.

    It's the lack of respect.
It's the handling of this that flies in the face of logic.
    It's the lack of reason.
It's the fact that the game IS READY!

There is no goddamn reason they should NOT release the game now.
We waited a month because certification was dragging its heals and instead of giving us the game the soonest they can, we have to wait yet again...FOR NO REASON!
It is like they want to piss off the few people that haven't been so far.

Let me put this in a ridiculously out of context way. Lets say your father (TTG) locked you in a closet for a month (radio silence) and right before the end of the month he opens the closet and says, "You're adopted," then walks away.

    Any reason to be upset?

I'd just like to say that as a ps3 owner, I was very disappointed TTG didn't manage to keep to the monthly schedule, I was extremely angry at the lack of communication between TTG and over a million customers, but I couldn't give a shit if it's released 2 days later than on xbox, I've been waiting over a month, 2 days won't kill me.

Lastly, it is quite amusing to see some that defended TTG's abhorent behaviour over the last month going ballistic because they have to wait 2 days more than xboxers, to them I say 'shit happens', 'go and do someting else' 'do you want the game 2 days earlier and full of bugs or 2 days later and polished?' and all the other myriad excuses they churned out defending TTG's poor P.R.

Sure, playing it a few days (or month) earlier would be nice, but I am glad episode two is finally here. I loved the first and I'm hoping I can turn Larry into zombie chow this week.

Haha, well said! I'm just happy we got a solid date. I'll have to wait a few days more than others, but I got what I wanted. I'm really surprised though that this was the straw that broke the camels back for some of the folks here.

Gonna grab some Yuengling and some General Tso's chicken. Friday will be a good day for beer, chinese food, and zombies!

That they did. Didn't expect that at all.

PC Gamer here, 2 days isn't much and at least it's released.

    Me = the perpetual optimist.

Someone, punch me right now, please. I should be pissed at the double delay (having already paid everything upfront), but I'm not. But I sure as heck won't be buying another TTG game.

The fact of the matter is, it isn't that there isn't a good reason why it was delayed for PC - because we don't know that. Really, it's that there's a lack of an easily-identifiable reason.

Being in the business world, you start to appreciate how messed up some things could be. For example, let's just say that when Telltale signed up with Sony to distribute games via PSN, they had to sign an agreement which states that the game on PSN won't come out any later than the PC version. These types of agreements have existed in the past - in fact, it was something that MS used to do back in the early days of XBLA, only then it was with PSN instead of PC. Anyway, my point is that you combine a theoretical agreement like this with PSN only being able to update on Tuesdays and Fridays and you have the game not being able to come out on PC until Friday.

That was just an example. Anything could have caused this.

Honestly, we don't know the reason. Thing is, I doubt Telltale is trying to piss off PC gamers. The only real logical conclusion in my mind is that there is some other reason that they don't want to talk about or can't talk about which is preventing the PC version from coming out until Friday. I highly doubt the company is going out of its way to release the PC version later just because they "lack respect" for PC gamers or anything else, which I think is kind of an absurd assumption to make given Telltale's strong PC gaming roots.

There is no goddamn reason they should NOT release the game now.

There's got to be a reason. I doubt any company would make a percentage of their customers unhappy for the hell of it. That would be nuts.

Regarding the different dates for the format releases, unless they want first reviews and early feedback to be Xbox based to promote that format this time around (which I doubt) or because the PC format is to release in-line with the Steam summer sale or something (which would make sense in some ways - imagine you hadn't got the season pass yet, bought it, and then two days later it was in the steam sale for less - but I still doubt they'd do this) it's probably something that's just simply out of their control.

Think of it this way.. in a few months, the only people this delay will still effect will be TellTale because some disgruntled customers will remember it, so they'd be pretty dumb to have done it deliberately.

I think what some people are still angry about is the lack of closure (which I can fully understand). You got a date, but no reason why the delay, nor any reason why the different dates for different format releases (I may be wrong, I may have missed it - sorry if I have). I'm not particularly worried about the release dates myself, I just think that it would be good PR for TellTale to provide their customers with some closure on things really.

At a risk of bringing more rage, there is always the possibility that Xbox could have finished testing first. The have to make 3 different types of the same game, let's not be so fast to bitch out telltale.
  • edited June 2012
it is crappy to give xbox exclusivness considering the game shoulda been release like a month and a half ago delaying it was kinda annoying now they gonna delay it for everyone except xbox. Kind of find it very poor unethical buisness move especially delaying it from people whom have already paid.

Really doesnt matter to me least i still get it a few days late but still i find it wrong this will prolly be my last telltale purchase for awhile now.

    Dear Telltale -
I used to think you were a company that catered to customers just like me - fans of old PC adventure games. I liked that.

I see now that you are not. The reasons don't matter much to me, just how you treat me as a customer. I don't have an xbox, I don't want one, and it's clear that means I am not as important to you (as a customer) as an xbox owner.

That's fine, I just want you to know that I noticed.

I will still buy games from you. I just won't buy games until they are complete. There are other PC gamers like me. I sincerely hope your xbox sales make up for our loss. Good luck to you, and thank you for good games. I look forward to the rest of the Walking Dead series.

    John

I have issues with the release dates here.

Xbox hold everyone up, but they get it first. I can kind of deal with that, Microsoft are well known for getting slightly exclusivity deals. It's 2 days, I see no reason to complain. Except for Europe... they claimed the game was ready and it was just Xbox holding everything up, and it was good to go other than the issues they had with Microsoft.

So why is the game released "soon" in Europe on the PS3? If it was ready, why is it not ready now? as stated by others the game is a month late now, Sony have been asked about the game and have stated that they were ready for release when TellTale are, and that it passed all of it's checks for release (Sony Europe are different to Sony America, and sometimes it massively affects release times)

I just don't see they can be a month late, release it everywhere except Europe PS3 and still not even bother to give us a release date. I would download the U.S. version, but it won't carry on with my choices I made, and I already paid the full season price in the UK

I've emailed TellTale about this, and about the original delay, but gotten no reply as if they don't care and to be honest this last item has now made me pretty much give in on TellTale.

I love the company, have a load of their games on PC and PS3 (wish Puzzle Agent 2 would come to PS3 actually) but I prefer playing on my console, in the living room on a big tv with my wife and sometimes my son. I'm already paid up for the full season, I may as well download them when they all come out because they are a lot of fun.

But from now, I'm sticking to downloading them when every episode is available... and preferably when they go on sale, because I no longer feel like being treated as a second class customer.

In lighter news though, hope everyone who gets it today and Friday really enjoy it. It looks great, and hopefully carries on strongly from a very positive start.
