Walking Dead is great so far, but I'll just say that I think their insistence on every single one of their games being episodic is baffling, when it causes so much frustration and room for error.
Is it just unfathomable to, oh I don't know, make a full game and release it all at once, instead of stretching it out over six months?
which means they missed all of their previously planned "monthly" releases.
The battle of semantics is retarded..
you say all where missed..again missing the point there was no concrete date set. planning is a state of decision making, setting up the rules to find an answer, it is the path to something therefore open to change, confirmation is the end an absolute.

There was a date set, 30 days after Ep 1 came out, Ep 2 should have come, that is that the game said when i bought it, not the forum or a faq or whatever, it said so in the game.

if you mean a sales page ? which version/format ?
as far as i know the 'may' date was probably pure speculation to improve the chance of a sale..
and i bought the season pass for pc and it merely stated ep1 out in late april.till they 'confirmed'.....everything else was coming soon..

Oh quit complaining... It gets old after a while. It's one thing if people have something constructive to say, but just complaining that they didn't release on a monthly basis is just stupid. Did you honestly expect them to put out a quality game and release on a monthly basis? Are you genuinely telling me that you'd rather have a crappy product in 1 month than a great product in 2? If not, then just shut up about it.
Yes, i expected them to put out a quality game in one month episodes. This is my first time with telltale games, so i believed what they were advertising and selling. Do you think i shouldn't of believed them?
And in my opinion, they do episodes cause they can't afford the cost of staff to produce a full game all in one go, they must get people paying ahead or along the way to afford staff and finish the game. Just my opinion, based on what I have seen of the company and thier work so far.

It seems like maybe you should have done some research before just jumping in.

Quit defending TT it gets old.
And yes, i did expect that, becasue that is what they told me they would, then they went back on that, after they had my money.
Welp, obviously they were wrong. Lesson learned. Do you think they did this on purpose?
The big man sitting at the table saying: "we'll tell them monthly and then when we can't deliver we'll just sit and laugh at them". If they would have said periodically to begin with I would have still bought the game and I have a feeling the majority of customers would have also.
Unfortunately the monthly schedule couldn't be kept but that doesnt make it any less awesome. One of the best games I've ever played. If it takes them a year to make it this good, then take a year.
My complaint is nothing about release dates but, reading the OP and some posts here and there I know that Telltale tends to mess up a lot with their customers.
I bought Episode 1 some days ago just to notice that my Retina Macbook Pro with a Quad Core processor, 16GB of Ram and a 1GB graphics card can't run it without issues. All because of an issue the game has with Mountain Lion (I still don't know if it's Mountain Lion or the MBP itself).
I cannot only read ANY text in the game since all the letters are completely blurred but I can't play the game without it freezing every time something different is about to happen. All I have to do, though, is wait for 10-15 seconds and all is normal again. WOW, what a FINE gaming experience!
Worst part is, I posted about this 4 (FOUR) days ago on the forums only asking for a rep to say if there will be an update to fix this and I didn't get any reply. Another fine example of how NOT to treat customers.
I ended up asking Steam for a refund and am waiting for their reply atm. Not buying any other Telltale's game in the near future. Might as well download a cracked version since I'm getting the same experience
Hazl, do you like the game (i.e. story, characters)?
Its okay, but that is not the point, when you advertise monthly updates, that is what you give, anything else is unprofessional.
I really dont understand why people keep defending game devs. if any other industry constantly made false promises and/or sold half ased unfinshed products, they would have been out of business years ago, but for some reason its okay for games, because oh its just a video game....
I bought Episode 1 some days ago just to notice that my Retina Macbook Pro with a Quad Core processor, 16GB of Ram and a 1GB graphics card can't run it without issues.
It's the consumer's responsibility to know whether or not their system meets the specifications of the game.
Its okay, but that is not the point... but for some reason its okay for games, because oh its just a video game....
That is the point. If you like it, it's worth waiting for, and it will get here. If you don't, why waste energy, go do something you do like. I'm willing to bet you've wasted a lot more money in your life on clothing, shoes, music, movies, whatever, that once purchased didn't meet your expectations for one reason or another. This is just a game.

No it is not the point.
And no it is not just a game, it is Telltales job, i wish i could do my job as halfarsed and just tell my costumers that i will get around to them whenever, but then i would find myself in the uneployment line before the day is over.
I'm willing to bet you've wasted a lot more money in your life on clothing, shoes, music, movies, whatever, that once purchased didn't meet your expectations for one reason or another. This is just a game.
If a product did not meet my expectations because of a false advertisement I would be upset about that as well. Why are people acting like its unreasonable to be upset about what happened? Honestly if the game had said periodically when I went to buy it I would of passed and I imagine theres a good number of other folks that would of as well. We should be right around the final episode right now, but we aren't even half way...
the issue of the monthly release date is no longer relevant.
a) ttg have changed the faq to periodic releases
b) it's been approx 4 months and almost everyday one person brings it up like yesterdays stale oatmeal.. seriously get over it..
c) we also paid/waiting/wanting the game out asap..
d) we use our brains before posting shit that is no longer relevant (most of the time)
e) as i said before IT'S LATE WE GET IT, WE UNDERSTAND WHY, SO CAN WE PLEASE MOVE ON...(feel free to insert a 'the fuck' )
I dont mind waiting. On the official TWD page i see episode 6 & 7.Is this true?
TWD game has FIVE episodes.
Can you post a screenshot or link where you've read anything about episodes 6 and 7, and are you sure they're not talking about the "Playing Dead" VIDEO series?
Honestly if the game had said periodically when I went to buy it I would of passed and I imagine theres a good number of other folks that would of as well.
Honestly if the game had said periodically when I went to buy it I would of passed and I imagine theres a good number of other folks that would of as well...
I agree with you.
Later found out that I was buying this game unfinished or in advance. I forgot the exact term, but buying the game before it has been put on shelves.
I am against that. But we have long moved beyond that phase. Lesson learned, and now we sit and we wait.
"Periodically" IS a placeholder time frame and doesn't sound too attractive to the customer, it's true.
With "monthly", the buyer had at least a rough idea when he will receive episode five. But monthly is just not in the cards for TWD, and after the "live" experience of five of Telltale's episodic releases, I find it impossible to believe that this delay wasn't as surprising to the company as they say.
Fraud, false advertisement, false promise, misleading or whatever seemingly juicy terms people have used in the various complaint threads, they all need intent to be fitting. There is none. Failing to keep this "rough" monthly schedule is damaging the company's reputation, which had been excellent up to this point. No company plans on doing that.
Make of this what you will, but "periodically" is the genuine way of communicating the delay for Telltale at a time of uncertainty. They could have announced "just a little longer than a month" to soothe their customers, or "a maximum of two months" so they'd at least never fail to keep their schedule again. "Periodically" says "as fast we can". True to the core, but pretty unsatisfying for fans and new customers alike.
A release date is defined as a fixed date at which an episode releases.
A confirmed release date is defined as a precise release day Telltale has explicitly given to the press AND announced at their blog.
I know of a belated Mac release of TWD episode 1, so that might put the count of missed confirmed release dates indeed up to one, and you might even count the non-Steam PC version of episode one a missed release date (server problem), but apart from that, in all the other games and episodes, confirmed release dates were always kept.
There was a date set, 30 days after Ep 1 came out, Ep 2 should have come, that is that the game said when i bought it, not the forum or a faq or whatever, it said so in the game.
The game said "monthly", meaning about four to six weeks (oh yes, six) between episodes. No TTG advertisement or game description, regardless of franchise, Season or episode, before or after any adjustments, EVER spoke of "30 days".
Can you post a screenshot or link where you've read anything about episodes 6 and 7, and are you sure they're not talking about the "Playing Dead" VIDEO series?
It's the consumer's responsibility to know whether or not their system meets the specifications of the game.
Oh, ok then. Point to where it says that the 2 month old Retina Macbook Pros with Quad Core processors, 16GB of Ram and a 1GB graphics card + Mountain Lion can't run the game. Please do. Oh and how much Telltale pays you as well, please.
I don't quite know what you would like to hear at this point other than we're sorry, but we are! We were later than the originally advertised monthly schedule, and we have updated the wording of all of the storefronts to reflect that now.
I don't know if you've played Telltale games in the past but we are generally known for being the episodic/downloadable company who actually hits their dates, or very close. On some of our earlier games there has occasionally been a small slip either at the very beginning or very end of the season, but a monthly schedule is something we traditionally pride ourselves on, and Walking Dead episode 2 taking the extra time that it took kind of caught us with our pants down, made us deer-in-the-headlights a bit. We've realized now that making the Walking Dead games the games they are is taking longer than a lot of our older games (so we've changed the wording to remove monthly, as that has turned out to not be true), and we're sorry for that, but we hope, and we think, that the resulting content you guys get to play when its done makes up for the delay.
I get that you are upset at the delay, but please know that the delay is not meant out of disrespect, it is meant out of the OPPOSITE. We are honored that you are interested enough in our take on the Walking Dead to purchase the game from us, and we want to do right by your purchase and the world of the Walking Dead with a quality game we hope you'll remember well for years to come. Hopefully the delay between eps 1 and 2 hasn't marred that too much! (Also, if it's any consolation, a silence like that is unlikely to ever happen again.)
Unfortunately, Jake's words were only posted in the "Questions" thread. There was a blog post also, addressing the necessary points but with less detail.
If they would just get it right the first damn time they wouldn't have to deal with any damn backlash.
Look, it's not rocket science how to do things the right way, how to not screw with your fan base. They are purposely vague, and about certain things thats fine, but they NEED to be more open. Are we going to get to September without any updates? Because I could seriously see that happening, and thats what is so wrong about this whole thing.
If they would just get it right the first damn time they wouldn't have to deal with any damn backlash.
Yep. If only they would have. In a perfect world I guess, but we're not in a perfect world and TT games isn't perfect. They made a mistake, owned up to it and apologized.
So is there PR strategy to consistently be late with releases, leave very vague updates, but to always include an apology in them because that'll make us happy and take any blame away from them?
No, that wouldn't work on most people, sadly it seems to for you.

Ummm.. How was their update vague? They said it would be ready for submission by mid-August. What else are they supposed to say? They can't give us a release date if they don't know how long the certification will take. I'm sure as soon as they know, we will know.
And yeah.. I'm fine with it. There is plenty to do while waiting for the release.
They didn't say they were finished with it, well one could interpret it that way. And that is EXACTLY what i'm talking about. The wording was too vague and too open for interpretation.

Then scroll the list of videos to the right.
Yeah. That's "Playing Dead", which is a series of videos that discuss the making of the game, etc.
All right, I was a bit surprised when I saw that. But this is of course "Playing Dead", not "Walking Dead".
They HAVE to stop calling those "episodes" as well.
I've been following your posts and I think you have a point.
They did state monthly updates and they have reneged on that.
Yes, it's true they have never missed a deadline when they gave a specific date, but I agree with Hazl it's besides the point.
I also agree that changing from monthly to periodically is a moot point.
Bottom line, if I paid $25 with the understanding I would receive a monthly episode then that's what I expect. It's a contract.
The people upset about TTG reneging on their word I believe have a legitimate reason to be upset.
Maybe TTG has done so for creative and/or technical reasons, but I agree it is unprofessional.
If they haven't done so already, I believe they owe customers at least the common courtesy to explain their change of direction going forward.
Personally, however, I'm not upset. Then again, I didn't buy the season pass.
They have, and apologized to boot.
Unfortunately, Jake's words were only posted in the "Questions" thread. There was a blog post also, addressing the necessary points but with less detail.
Nope, instead we got a small update, stating that they may or may not be done with the game and may or may not have submitted it.
How generous of them!
Damned if you do, damed if you don't.
You realize they had other releases before the Walking Dead right?? And where you get 0 for 3?? That makes no sense whatsoever.
If they would just get it right the first damn time they wouldn't have to deal with any damn backlash.
