I'm a white male, and I will start by acknowledging the absolute truth of what you're saying. The black guy definitely dies, mostly even goes first (soon followed by the brown guy). It seems the studios only put them in the movies to check the diversity box, but prefer to kill them off ASAP, because you can't have a truly happy ending with a bunch of darkies still drawing breath, can you?

It's always fine and dandy to have the white hero doing all kinds of heroics trying to save his black "best buddy". That really racks up the political correctness points! But at the end of the day, it just feels so much NICER if the black guy dies anyway. Heck, the black guy might even do some heroics himself (like T-DOG), as long as he dies properly in the end!

Look, race representation in media is a discussion that may be worthwhile having, but the OP's thread has been totally hijacked. Please move on from the race-related discussion in this thread now.

No, I think Kongdong is throwing the baby out with the bath water.

As I said earlier, it is true that black people die more than white people in movies. (Interestingly, not so much in books where we can't see their skin.)

However, it's going too far to say this is due to some repressed desire to see all black people exterminated from the face of the earth. It's usually something much more benign than that and something that isn't even conscious for many creators. They want to create audience empathy, which is easier to do when characters with the most screen time resemble your majority demographic. For producers of mainstream media, their majority demographic is white by default.

    What the fuck?

    1. This is walking Dead. It does not describe how someone survives the zombie apocalypse, it never did, and I do not really think it will do. It just tells the people dying within it. And, people, no matter what their complexion is, die, becuase dead does not know no racism. What you do is just making up some invalid theorys... In this series, no matter if it is the TV-show, the comic series or the game, some people survive the worst crap and some people die for nothing.

We know Theodore Douglas was no essential character, I bet the most of us wondered, how did he get so far? And not everybody in a zombie apocalypse is a Grimes, may he or she be complaining, doing stupid things or lead a group. I am myself a very quite person, not talking very much. In such a series I'd would have like... 3 Lines in one season and would probably get eaten on the fourth or fith episode.

"Thats not how the (TWD) World works"

and you see how they did lee everett

made the walking dead video game a hit, and they repay his character by killing him off

And I applaud them for it.

Clearly they had the entire story planned out before we even had episode one.

They could have tried to change their story to capitalize on Lee's fame, but instead stayed true to their original design. (assumption, but seems very likely)

So while I'm not happy he's dead, I have to applaud them for having the balls to stick to their guns, as it were. It would have been very easy for them to "sell out", and try to milk their creation.

First; you can't say that the TellTale game has any racistic ambitions. The white guys of the group: Kenny (probably dead); Ben (dead); Carley (dead); Doug(dead); Carley(dead); Lilly(probably alive); Larry(dead); Doug(dead); Mark(dead); Chuck(dead)... Then the black ones: Lee(dead); Clem (alive); Christa(probably alive) Omid(probably alive.. okay he is Persian, so you count him to the white ones if you feel better than)... So while most black characters are alive the white ones die.. Moreover Lee + Clem have very heroic character traits while the white characters are mostly cowards and asshole in this story. I don't think that TellTale has any racistic ambitions there and I can't see any.

About the comics: If you count the characters on this site:
Don't click if you are afraid of spoilers; I just want to show the source
    You will see that there are 78,57% whites; 19,39% blacks; 2,04% asian ones;
real population in Georgia is about: 67,9% whites; 28,7%blacks; 2,1 asian
You see its not 100% accurate to the reality but if you walk through your streets you also don't find exactly 67,9% whites 19,39% blacks etc.
Let's look at the survival chances of the characters:
white ones: survival: 32,46% dead: 63,64% unknown: 03,90
black ones: survival: 36,84% dead: 52,63% unknown: 10,53%
asian ones: survival: 50,00% dead: 50,00% unknown: 0%
Yeah, racist Kirkman didn't let 100% of the blacks survive..

About the TV show; you are right that that no black character had a good role in the episodes so far but I think this will change because of Michonne and Tyresee now. Anyway the TV show is the only medium were I can understand your anger but I think you shouldn't care too much about that I can't believe that they really did it because of racistic aspects. If the races would be switched I wouldn't mind about the characters. Maybe it is because I am European (not so much confronted with the black:white thematic) but I can't see the race problem.

Wow, Glenn is pretty hot in the TV show.

... I don't have anything else to add.

Dude, if it was racist, Lee would have ***** Clementine and get killed before anyone else.
The only racist things in this game was Kenny's remark about Lee being... you know, urban? and Larry being racist.

    Alive black people: Clem, Christa
    Alive white people: Lilly
    Alive other races: Glenn, Omid
    Dead black people: Chuck, Lee
Dead white people: Carley, Doug, Larry, Katjaa, Duck, Kenny, Ben, Mark
The game is totally discriminatory against white people :D

Chuck really looks black. Clem looks metis (does this word exist in English?). Kenny was stuck in an alley between 2 large groups of zombies, with no weapons except an empty 9mm. So yeah he's dead. I don't see how Christa is Indian.

how many black people have you actually seen in real life? i've never met a black guy that looks like this:

    ChuckBen.jpg

and im also surprised by how many of you really believe kenny is dead. it's like y'all have never seen a horror movie before. where a character is believed to be dead, only to pop up in the 3rd act and save the day.

and i don't know too many black women who's natural hair looks like this either:

    Christa.jpg

so i guess christa has time to perm her hair in the zombie apocalypse.
  • edited December 2012
again, I already proved clem is black. and maybe you are having a hard time telling christa is black because she doesn't have 9 inch fingernails.
  • edited December 2012
I'm more concerned about how he was able to end up right back in handcuffs as opposed to just getting killed off, even during the apocalypse.

that's the story they give black men

start off the game in cuffs, end the game in cuffs. much like how in a zombie apocalypse, t-dawg still manages to die in jail.

no, i just don't believe in the one drop rule cast down from white supremacy. just because her father is black, doesn't make her black. she's bi-racial/mixed with two races.
  • edited December 2012
again, I proved BOTH her parents are black, but I guess she isn't black enough for you, kuntakinte. And what I'm getting from you is more the black supremacist feel from you.
  • edited December 2012
When did you proved that? How did you do that?
  • edited December 2012
Well in that angle Chuck looks white. Blacks aren't really black. Some have a lighter skintone, especially the ones who may have white ancestry, such as Christa. And I live in a country that has his share of black people. And by saying Chuck is white, even more white people get killed, so the game is dicriminatory against white people :D

What the hell as slavery to do with this? Clem's mum is probably a metis and her dad is black. Not to sound racist but that's enough black for me. Or metis at least.

It's a voice actor. Now you're saying black people have a totally different voice than white people. This is actually racist.

have you ever taken anthropology and anatomy, marcus? I'm going to guess not, so let me point out something to you... a shallow bridge and wide nostrils, along with fuller lips are markers for people of african descent. That picture you showed me looks plenty black to me.

so you proved my point by acknowledging asians could have curly hair as well.

and once again 1 half of a black parent doesn't make you black -- it makes you mixed.
