Marcu5 isn't doing a good job arguing, but he's right about the one black man rule being stupid and racist. Rather than debating with everyone on this massively out of control thread, I'm going to summarize.
The Walking Dead show is poorly written as a whole. It's characters are bland and nothing like their comic counterparts, the plot goes lifelessly from one broadstroke of the canon to another, the changes are uninspired (and when they do something interesting, it's a case of reality interfering (DeMunn leaving, Sophia's aging actor (ooh, nested parentheses!!!))), and they could make better use of their characters.
Oscar was a red shirt. He was killed to make Woodbury's escape look dangerous. You know how that could have been done better? Have DARYL get shot. He's a fan favorite, and useful to boot. Oscar dying is predictable and stupid. If Daryl gets shot in the escape, everyone would care. He was gonna get caught anyway, why not connect the A to the B and say the reason he was caught was because he got shot in the escape? Then you still have a black character to put to better use and higher stakes with Daryl against Merle.
Like I said, he does have a point that the writers are pretty horrible. And they are neglecting the people of color in a considerable way. Its like if they keep the black guy around just because he's the black guy. Don't put a character in your show just because he's African-American, if you're gonna put one in their, at least give him equal development to even the side characters.
But his logic, including that the entire franchise is racist, is just beyond illogical.
im going to respond to this first since im on a cellphone, but he called me kuntakinte. if you're not aware of who that is, google it. your message started off strong but degraded immediately to the same ole rhetoric.
Ohohoho! Oh no! My entire point and message has been tainted by my ending statement! Its ruined! Its all gone to hell! Everything that I have pointed out that you even admit is strong is now irrelevant due to ONE SINGLE statement! Whatever shall I doooooo?!
I'm sorry! I'm sorry! I'm so sorry! Please disregard everything I have just said! Truly you are a wise and noble prophet!
I think that marcu5 has been taken way too seriously, while some people have been talking to marcu5 nicely, some others seem to hate on him for everything. His replies don't seem to help much, either. Shoulda pointed that out before ^^

Hate is a strong word... I would say he is a big fat hypocrite...but no I don't hate him.
Actually, if you're against racism, then why did you start arguing about it? What I mean, if you really didn't care about races, you wouldn't even have noticed anything wrong in the Tv-series. In example *comic book spoilers*
Some people were arguing that Michonne was raped, just because she was black, when they could have just seen it as something that could have happened to anyone from any race.
Edit: I just re-read my comment. It sounds a little harsh, I was not trying to upset anyone, just in case
wow, just typed out a few paragraphs only for the screen to go blank when i hit submit. what the hell? if TTG can't fix simple things like this, it's no wonder they never fixed the PS3 delete bug

t-dawg was nothing more than a errand boy for white characters. disposing of bodies, digging ditches, siphoning gas from vehicles. while white characters actually had a background, dialogue, love interest, t-dawg was a humble servant for his group. only to die by trying to save a white chick.
t-dawg 2.0 (oscar) betrayed his fellow prisoners, shot another black guy. became ricks new lacky for all of 2 days, only to ALSO die saving a white chick.
t-dawg 3.0 (tyrese) probably wont follow the comics at all. seeing as how he's already subservient to carl. i see him also dying the same well his predecessors did.
I'm sorry you feel i am ignorant (it's one of those things you can know you are)
the way you have described those characters is not how i see them and i just don't think i am able to see TWD the way you do (not trying to be rude but i am glad i don't see it your way) and as i have said i think its a shame to watch a fictional drama and think that because a character isn't as well developed as some of the others it's a racist thing to do.
I remember hearing a guy who worked on The Princess And The Frog, the first animated Disney movie to have a black protagonist, saying this was a no-win situation.
He basically said "If we had her do or say something seen as typically black, people whomped us for stereotyping and being racist. But if we avoided black touchstones and had her behave in a culturally generic way, people accused us of whitewashing her and making her an Oreo. Whatever we did was wrong."

That quote.
That quote is definitely good enough to be liked by me.

Can the moderators just lock this thread and ban the OP's ip address for good? I don't think I need to explain why. And this isn't the first 'racism in walking dead' thread he has created if I'm not mistaken. Also he argues like someone who has barely completed primary school education.

I just wonder why this has been going on for thirteen pages already. He doesn't have much of a valid arguement and this is getting heated now.
I was about to say the same... this thread is mostly arguing over a guy who replies with two lines of ununderstandable nonsense.
Fact.
Define out of hand? While a few posts seem geared to prove one side or the other are racists, it's been mostly civilized.
Hate is a strong word... I would say he is a big fat hypocrite...but no I don't hate him.
Yeah... I use the word "hate" for everything. Maybe... light hating?
nothing i've said is hypocritical
you just use hypothetical situations and strawman arguments to make your point.
Sure...only the premise you started this on was a strawman. "Lee died saving a white girl. er I mean mixed girl. This is racist!"

This board is probably tired of your shit.
yet you keep coming back, you have the second most post in this thread
and you have the 4th most

Haha just kidding
I don't see why you guys are arguing over 'TWD is racist' when we're getting Tyreese.
That quote.
That quote is definitely good enough to be liked by me.
Because it took the deaths of 2 black protagonists in the same season to get to Tyreese.
Good point.
Lol.. The shit people say.
Seeing as Atlanta is like 50% African-American it wouldn't make sense not to.
They had a forgettable black woman in Season 1 too, she committed suicide at the CDC.
Funny thing is, Whats-his-face said he wouldn't let anyone commit suicide.
This just made my day.
Oh no I missed I'm so sorry please don't oh my god no
And looking back at the last few pages the insults have gotten out of hand.
