How Do You Feel About Telltale's Direction?

edited June 2013 in General Chat
Just like the good old days, back when a simple discussion of who the best male and female users on the forum were could turn into half the people here changing their avatars to eyevatars... and still seem perfectly natural.

I miss those days.

Aye, 'tis true. This forum sure ain't what it used to be. Personally, I feel that it started going downhill ever since Doodo! was cast out. Perhaps he placed a curse on this forum!

I'd personally say it's because the old forum regulars don't have anything to discuss about Telltale's new games, and discussion on the old games has run dry. Without the on-topic silliness, we've lost people, and the off-topic silliness has decreased.

I am frankly stunned that none of you have blamed me for the decrease in quality foruming. Stunned.

    That's most likely the case.

I must admit that I've been considering finding a new forum to jump ship to for a while now. I still love many of the users here but it's just too much like a darn ghost town at times.

I also don't care for the direction that Telltale are moving in with regards to their new games. Sadly, there's not too much of a reason for me to stick around anymore. :(

I was thinking about maybe joining the RetroGamer community.

Darth, When you don't want people to blame you then don't post telling them to blame you >_> (Btw this is a joke)

Anyway seriously it does seem like there's hardly anything to talk about TTG's games. We all seen what the TWD fourms turned into with people crying about episodes not being out exactly a month later and people just being assholes and making fake threads to just spoil things for people. With Fables and & TWD Season 2 coming, it seems like we won't be getting any comedy or puzzle style adventure games for a while.

To be honest, LucasArts has been taken out back and shot, and it also feels like Telltale--what was left of old-school LucasArts--has declared adventure games as dead to them.

    It makes me sad.

So people aren't happy because Telltale are doing new things and will continue to do so instead of keeping a certain subset of fans happy by making old things newer using nostalgia as a method of forward planning?

If/when TTG releases their new website and "community" page, you can bet a bunch of other old members like me will consider jumping ship as well.

We could all move to Doublefine and confuse people with our inside jokes!

Speaking of... haven't been there in awhile. I made a couple posts and then forgot what my password was.

I'm not happy because the games they make now are mindless drivel for the LCD.

People aren't happy because they love adventure games; they came here initially because Telltale was making adventure games; and now Telltale seems to have all but left them out in the cold. These people had hope that maybe TTG might come back to making games for their original fanbase, even briefly, but Telltale has all but confirmed that they couldn't care less.

All that's left now is to ruin the forum community, by changing to that God-awful mess that was shown in beta, in order to slam the door in our faces.

Walking Dead certainly wasn't that and if you think that then you're just being bitter.

I can give you BttF & JP as they on the whole blips on the path to where they are now. I doubt that the driving force of the future of Telltale Games will be based on those two games.

Like I said, people seem to expect them to stay the same and that is unfair. Let the company grow and experiment.

I agree with you about the forums though, if the beta becomes a reality I'm leaving.

Sorry it comes down to this but I am leaving this forum.

Telltale Games is no longer the Telltale Games that I joined back in 2007. They no longer make proper point and click adventure games that I can play without violating my conscience. I have no interest in playing games that contain foul and vulgar language like the walking dead series.

The Law and Order series that wasn't a true game, to be honest I felt ripped off by it. No real puzzles, nothing.

Back to the Future a massive let down. By the way I never downloaded episodes 3 to 5.

It is a pity that Telltale have gone downhill.

So goodbye people it was fun while it lasted but am moving on.

    :(

I really would like to be able to know where everyone is going to go if/when it happens. I like our community, and so wouldn't want to be left wandering the interwebs looking for where my friends have gone off to.

Go to the Double Fine forums. It's lots of fun there- for now.

I'm only on the Double Fine forums for DFA stuff. Rarely venture outside the Backer zone.

I wonder if it's worthwhile making a fans forum (that is if anyone is still a fan of Telltale) or something more general.
  • edited April 2013
Well, my home away from home is currently myth-weavers at the moment, but I think if everyone started flocking away from here, I'd go hang at Doublefine for my gaming conversation needs.
  • edited April 2013
I only have here and NeoGAF. And NeoGAF is the easiest place to get banned on I have ever seen. So I don't know. I wanted to be around the Double Fine forums, but the community is so big I figured I couldn't get my voice heard amongst it, so I don't post.

We can go there and make a Telltale refugee thread in General Chat until we find our feet.

No need to be rude, folks. I appreciate (if not entirely share) your feelings, daro2096. I hope that you can find a new forum (and games) that suit your tastes better soon enough.

You can bet then that if no one else does this, I will.

If Telltale changes their forums, of course.

I'm cautiously hopeful that Fables will attract a better user base than The Walking Dead did. It doesn't take much to like a zombie TV show, but people attracted to a non-superhero comic might be a bit more refined. I guess we'll see, but yeah, if you all abandon the Telltale forums, there won't be much keeping me around here anymore, either.

So with the recent announcement that King's Quest is finished, and Telltale won't be pursuing any licenses like it and Monkey Island again any time soon, but are looking to modernize the genre, many people have been pushed to the point of jumping ship here and it's pretty much become Mega Butthurt Day on the forum.

So what now? Will you be jumping ship? If so, where?

Will you stay on? If so, why?

    How do you feel overall?

Instead of taking up the other threads, let's discuss it here in a more contained place where we can kind of keep track of each other and such. Oh, and I'm selling pitchforks and torches if anyone needs some.

    A few questions...

    * What did the new layout look like? Would anyone happen to have a screengrab at all?

    * Do we know when's the switchover's happening?

    * Will old threads and posts be deleted once the switchover has taken place?

    * Would you like any toast?

Which is why I said we basically knew. Sure, nothing had outright spelled it out, but the puzzle pieces were all there.

I'm not leaving, absolutely not. No matter the state of Telltale, these forums are filled with such nice people and I keep coming back here because of that fact alone. I still look forward to Telltale's future endeavors and I will continue to be here for the foreseeable future.

Just imagine a fully threaded forum, where every reply is linked to the message it's a reply to, and it's hard to find the new messages (though I think they're working on that). Oh, and it doesn't use BBCode, something else instead. And they won't let you use your own avatar without a third-party service.

    Nothing's announced.

Supposedly not, though things may not be perfectly ported. After all, the current forums aren't threaded except by one initial anchor message per thread.

It's not that we disagree with him; it's that goodbye, hello, I'm back threads are generally pointless unless the person is a pretty familiar face around the forum.

In regards to the new site: we recently hired for a new position, VP of Online, and he's getting involved in the design. I'm not privy to the detail of exactly what is changing, but I believe the final release will be at least somewhat different to the beta.

Staying. I understand people want traditional adventure games, but I honestly don't have a problem with the type of games telltale are making right now. Just the audience they keep attracting with each game, which I can easily hide that forum and just stick around in general chat.

I'll only leave if all the people I talk to here leave. As long as there's a few lonely souls staying, I'll put in a token appearance. But I'll probably move my permanent residence to where ever the highest concentration of people seems to be headed.
