anyone find the voices in mi special edition a bit too quiet and too compressed? - i fired up day of the tentacle and the original sam and max straight after and found the voices just seemed so much better quality.

Can't resist saying that I wholeheartedly agree. Vorbis for the win (SOMI:SE uses WMA)!

Since D2D also seems to be DRM-based (and with a limited number of activations, at that) I'm waiting for the official release on LucasArts' site.

Aargh! LucasArts finally updated their site with a purchase link -- straight to Steam!

I'm sad to say it, but the DRM and extra hassle of the Steam client may keep me from enjoying this installment of Monkey Island. :(

Here's hoping LucasArts will wise up and do a non-DRM, direct purchase edition.

IMO the backgrounds are fantastic, but the character designs are just awful. Guybrush makes me cringe, and since we're staring at him the whole game, that's a lot of cringing.

LeChuck's voice is better than in ToMI (and that makes sense), but otherwise the voice acting is terrible. I think it mostly has to do with bad voice direction, and the fact that the pacing is completely off (it's paced to match the original game exactly). And this is probably even more subjective, but I think the dog's voice is completely, completely wrong. When he says "LeChuck" it shouldn't sound like a dog at all. That's the joke! =)

A peeve of mine is that there is no option to get the updated music/voice with the old-style game. And for some reason they removed the option to skip past a line of dialogue with the "." key in the new versiongame (and can't with a right-click, like most Telltale games), though it remains when you switch back to the original.

If you go to the original version and increase the text speed, the speech has less pauses. Really, I don't see how they could have done this better without changing the original. I think they went the right way with this, and a lot of it really isn't "their fault".

The only exchange that sounds particularly bad to me is Guybrush's encounter with the lookout at the start of the game. It's just so jilted and "off".

I don't think I could really imagine it like that. I think it works fairly well, And apparently the Flashfilm person agrees. =)

Backspace generally works for longer dialogues.

That should have been set by default! This simple option definitely improves the quality of the whole edition.

Is there any other shop to buy SOMI SE except steam? Dont wanna install steam to play the game. Something like Tell tale shop would be nice.

Watch out for Manny from grim Fandango in the scene with LeChuck's ghost ship anchored in the river of lava! He's to the bottom left of the screen.

Well, I finally beat it. Apart from the all the horrible bugs and glitches I kept encountering (most, but not all, of which went away after I uninstalled and re-downloaded the game), it was an extremely enjoyable experience. Some of the artwork did feel a little rushed, as if the artists were pressed to meet a deadline or something, but overall I got the impression that a lot of love was poured into the game. The voices were all pretty spot on; there were only a few instances where I felt like a certain character should have sounded different or a certain line should have been read a different way. The music was phenomenal! I absolutely loved the new version of the theme on the ghost ship. I'm definitely looking forward to seeing what they come with if they do special editions of other classic adventure games.

Bought it the other day and beat it yesterday. Last time I played the original it was like, early 2000. Amazing to go through it again and see how obvious the humor in the series became. Not that that's a bad thing but I love some of the more subtle jokes in Secret.

Anyway, great purchase and judging from the message at the end I really hope we see LeChuck's Revenge remade.

did they leave out the stump joke like in the CD version?

all he says is "it doesnt open"

    Yes they did.

As the cd version is the basis for the special edition, the stump joke is out.

I looked for the stump while playing the special edition to test it.

Anyone notice that they left a few old school chunky pixels here and there in the backdrops? Check out the trees in the forests. :)

Yeah I've noticed that, too. Seems they simply painted the new graphics over the old ones and in a hurry missed some spots to paint over.

As a new fan who played TOMI before SOMI:SE, I have to say that I'm amazed how much they got right. Alot is different. The controls, the graphics, the puzzles, they are all very different. The atmosphere and the humor are dead on. I think that alot of people are a little dissapointed in TOMI and I don't get it. It's obvious that they put alot of effort into making sure that the old school gamers feel at home. I just replayed TOMI again and it was alot funnier. You simply won't get alot of the jokes unless you have played the older games. I think they really went out of their way to apease the old school MI gamers, as they should have. I really respect Telltale for this. Good job guys.

So is this one worth getting? Will it only be released on steam and what does it cost?

Licensing issues, they don't have the rights to create any art based on Sam and Max.

Switch to the old version and use the [ and ] keys I think. Or maybe it's the + and - keys... a pair of keys around the enter and backspace keys anyway...

The only thing I'm on the fence about is whether to get the PC version or the 360 version...

    Any impressions ?

I wish they had a PC demo so I could see how it performs on my rig.
