Well, they were going to add a pack of bubble gum, but supplies were far too low.

I'd totally get that collection edition if I had the money to spare!
(Its about £90 at the moment!)

Actually it's $89.99 USD for the PC version right now. Console versions are $99.99. That would be less in £'s right?

Here's a very interesting interview with Randy Pitchford (president and co-founder of Gearbox) by Gamespot about the Duke legacy, the game mechanics of DNF, differences and similarities to Duke3D, and the state of shooters today. It's a promising bit of news. Can't wait to play it.

    Well, crap.

Something is strange, though. North American release June 14th and international release June 10th? Why does international get it earlier?
  • edited March 2011
    The 10th isn't a Tuesday is why.

May is L.A. Noire month, so I can wait a few more weeks.

It's done! *****! Release it now!

Speaking of Duke Nukem, anyone seen they are going to remake Duke Nukem 3D?
Going to be nice to see that game with today's graphics.

They pushed the release date back, again...

    XD! that made my day

Good, I'm glad it's been delayed. Very glad.

In the games industry today, how many massive titles do we see rushed out onto the market that are buggy, and even unplayable at times? A lot, and it's an increasing problem. The fact that Gearbox are pushing the release date back is a great thing, and it should (should) mean no bugs.

They may be copping a fair bit of crap now, but it's nothing compared to the amount of ridicule they'd receive for releasing a buggy, incomplete game.

If there's one thing Duke Nukem Forever has not been, it's rushed.

It's not a straight remake. Also, it's a bunch of fans working on it for free not any big-label studios (though some industry workers are involved). Gearbox just granted permission and a fan license. It's going to look nothing like the original game, just follow loosely the designs and ideas of the original levels. Straight copies or even embellishments of the original levels are actually illegal with the license Duke3D was created under.

I have mixed feelings about it. I'm not sure how well it's going to do.

Of course, the game itself, and the giant 12+ year project as a whole, hasn't been rushed, but the finalization and release of the game by Gearbox is something that can be potentially rushed.

I loved the pun in the video: "Duke Never Comes Early".

I was thinking of getting the original on GOG, but since my disc doesn't work I don't think the download would either. This could be the perfect way to play it again if it happens.

Hmm. I think I'd have to see some screenshots or something. I don't mind the idea of it being fan created as fans can do some pretty amazing stuff, but the idea of it being only 'loosely' designed does make me um and er. Still, it has me interested so I shall be googling this a little later on. :D

A remade duke 3d would be hotness. That was my first huge online game ever. Time to break out the 14.4 modem.

I'm excited for the new one too, it's hard to say whether or not it'll actually be good.
  • edited March 2011
There are no screenshots. They haven't released any media other than a new Duke bust render and some concept art. Nothing more. It's actually a touchy subject among the community right now with extreme opinions on other side.

You, sir, need EDuke32. Easy as pie to use. The best Duke3D source port out there. All you need is the DUKE3D.GRP file from your disc. Just drop it into the EDuke32 folder. And it has a high resolution texture pack! And if your graphics card is good enough it can look like this with the new "polymer" renderer (dynamic lighting, realtime shadows, normal/specular/parallax-mapped textures, and 3d models):

This all sounds awesome! I shall definitely be trying this out. I hope it's as simple to use as you make it sound.

EDIT: Oh goodness! It works so well! :D :D :D Guess I won't be needing that fan-made thing after all. Thanks for the link MusicallyInspired!

Great, now I have to get EDuke again so I can play with the new renderer... :p

Cool, that looks great. It will be interesting to see how the DN3D maps I made using the Build engine when I was 16 will look with the new renderer. Has anyone else here made any custom maps that they would care to share?

I'll see if I can upload mine tomorrow as it would be great to hear what others think of them. I've got three maps, that are as follows:

    * A large level set in a shopping mall. It's filled with neat moments such as a mini earthquake and a swimming pool filled with sharks.

    * A map of the first floor of my old house. I'm not sure how interesting this will be to anyone else but whatever.

    * A recreation of the cabin from The Evil Dead. It's very accurate as I sat down with a notepad and mapped out the various rooms by freeze framing the film.

I've started a few maps but never finished any. I started one for a guy's TC once called Island Base. But I never finished it. I always kept going back to see what I could add but nothing ever came to me. Here it is currently in it's unfinished form.

I found a Space Quest map years and years ago of the Arcada from SQ1EGA. It was fantastic. But I mistakenly deleted it and now it is lost to the ages, unfortunately. The original author was contacted at one point, but alas, he no longer has the file.

I searched for you but I also had no luck. In fact, the first site I got through Google was another forum with you trying to locate the map :D I'm always coming across posts made by MusicallyInspired on various forums, you seem to be like the God of the Internet, present at all times, everywhere.

I'm Googling your name all the time because I'm stalking you and as for where I've come across your posts before...

Hmm, let's see... ah, yes! Sexy Furries is one and the Neo-Nazi Appreciation site is another.

But seriously, I haven't kept track of the sites I've encountered you on but I'm thinking that they were mostly gaming related. I know that a King's Quest site was one and obviously 3D Realms. I'm not sure beyond that... The International House of Mojo perhaps? Maybe even a film site. Anyway, I'm positive that there were a couple more besides.

I guess that we just have similar tastes.

It was with deep regret that Jim returned home after attending a fancy dress party and re-read his e-invitation to confirm that it had in fact been a Avatar themed 'Dress-Like-A-Navi' night.

Yeah, they basically replace the Dollar sign with a Sterling one and call it a day and not just with games but all forms of entertainment. It's cynical and unfair but that's Britain for you.
  • edited March 2011
Luckily they do the same for Canada. So our games are actually cheaper! Well, not right now actually because the Canadian dollar is above the American at the moment.

I just realized this is the third time I've reserved a copy of this game. Hopefully third times a charm.

Something like that :). I'm sure the dollar will go back up again and suddenly the games will be cheaper.

...and meanwhile in rip-off Britain, having taken on a fifth mortgage and living off cold beans and chalky water, maybe I'll be able to afford a new game by 2016.

    Me bitter? Never!

Hey all, I'm trying to upload my Duke3D maps on the web via a USB stick, plugged into my PS3. Does anyone know how to do this exactly because I can't get my PS3 to acknowledge any file that isn't an image, video or music (that includes RARs etc).

I've tried going to free upload sites, from where I'm able to select files through my USB but like I said I can't figure out how to get the actual file as an option.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
