Duke Nukem Forever

edited August 2011 in General Chat
Will Duke Nukem Forever EVER resurface or never...? Is the ship sunk or will they make another daring return somehow? What do you think? I don't know if their ready to let go of all that hype and glory yet, even though the team is mostly gone.

I highly suspect that it never will, especially with 3D Realms being sued and stuff.

There's lots of game play videos out.

I guess in 10-20 years we can download it for free off the internet.

You know...they went out of buisness..so I'm guessing, we may have a copy before the end of the world.

That or in 15 years when games are considered art somebody'll snap the rights and make a Tarantino-esque tounge-in-cheek version
  • edited December 2009
I honestly hope we do somehow get it. Not only because I've been waiting since '97, but because the leaked videos looked quite fun.

    Always bet on Duke. ALWAYS.

    ... ALWAYS.

if they ever made it it better be pretty damn gd for the wait

Duke Nukem Forever is effectively dead as of last May, with the 3D Realms downsizing, complete halt on production on the game and the lawsuit from TakeTwo. Its in the same grave as StarCraft: Ghost now. Its not coming.

Which reminds me, no Black Mesa for 09 people. Let's all take a moment

Well, that was inevitable. Its "almost complete", so perhaps in 2015? Still, the Pirates, Vikings and Knights mod should be out by the end of the year on Steam, that'll fill a modding gap.

Or it could be an elaborate joke...but it's not

I'm sure we will see a leak of whatever completed code there was for the game sometime in the next couple of years.
  • edited December 2009
There could also be a LameDuke type release, where they just shove it all onto the internet as-is for shits and giggles.

If I was rich, like richer than 3d Realms I would totally pay them off to make the game.

You know somewhere out there there's got to be some kid who is a billionaire and a mega-gamer who wants to fund billions to them so the game will finally be released and goes to ask his Dad, and his Dad is like, No, boy! Go do your homework!
  • edited December 2009
I've never played Duke Nukem. I remember my dad playing it on the N64, but that's it. I wish they'd release it on the VC...

Go get it from GOG.com. At that price, you've no excuse.

You probably already are... if I remember correctly, they did go BANKRUPT. Or at least with T2G's lawsuit, they technically are.

So, I guess every little bit helps?! :p

Maybe, DNF is the Pirate God? oooh, how we may ponder on that one.

That's probably bad. He'll just shoot Threepwood's kneecaps off and kick him in the face, headbutt LeChuck and throw him off a cliff into an abyss, rip off Nor Treblig's head and relieve himself on the remains. Then he'll take Elaine and Morgan and err, well, do what Duke does best in that department.

I don't think that matches the general "family friendly" nature of Monkey Island.

No your quite right, but you couldn't tell me it wouldn't be awesome.

It's never coming. But it doesn't matter, it looked pretty shite.

Woah clicked around theie forum for a bit. Yet another bullying/corrupt moderator community. Not joining that place. They're mocking noobs on the main page. That's friendly.

Sorry, dickheads like that piss me off a bit. I'm pretty glad Black Mesa is being delayed if it's being made by shitheads like that. In fact, I hope it never gets released and everyone laughs at them. Would serve them right.
  • edited December 2009
I'm almost glad that DNF will never be released. It won't be as revolutionary as it would have been back in the late 90s. FPS have evolved too much, and from what I have seen DNF seemed fairly archaic by todays standards. The original game was good, but long-waited games often suck - Daikatana anyone?

    Duke Nukem Forever. DNF.
    aka Did Not Finish
  • edited December 2009
Didn't they officially cancel it not long ago?

DNF is procrastination at its very best.
  • edited December 2009
Yeah, everyone knows it was cancelled.

And the company that developed it is being sued for not making it in time. Which is fair enough, they did a shite job.
  • edited December 2009
For a company that did a shite job, they did try to keep up with modern technology, and there were people who played the game early, who found the game pretty much finished as it were. In a good way. It's just that their "when it's done" policy didn't work out for them.

the original Duke Nukem 3D is still good but you have to get the update http://www.jonof.id.au/jfduke3d so it will work with windows & add proper mouse+keyboard support plus Direct3D or OpenGL

it also has an option to replace the old 2D sprites with 3D ones but i dont use that option as the original 2D sprites in highres look better imo

another update (similar to the Black Mesa project) is also available for Duke Nukem 3D, basiclly they have brought it up to scratch with recent FPS engines, i have been told it is basiclly finished but the website seems to say otherwise
http://hrp.duke4.net/ i think this is as close to DNF as we are going to get

    A homemade Trailer

www.eduke32.com is a much better port and has a new renderer that no other port has called Polymer that allows for dynamic lighting/shadows and normal/spec/diffuse/glow maps on models and world textures. It requires a video card with at least Pixel Shader 3 or something, though. It's still under construction but many people are enjoying it now flawlessly.
  • edited February 2010
According to both Wikipedia & the developer's website, the game is still being worked on.

No chance in hell that 3DR's DNF is ever going to see the light of day.

It wouldn't surprise me, though, if we see another dev tackle the series and release a game under that name.
