Palgn.com.au has a tentative release date of June 15th, is that feasible? That would be during the E3.

Just take Guybrush's head from MI2SE and paste it onto SMISE Guybrush.

    ...Beard.

No more concept art this week?

Just did a quick mockup of this:
    guybrushmi1nohair.jpg

Personally, I wasn't that bothered by MI1's hair, but I think using something like this would've made him look a little more likeable than he appears in the first SE.

His mouth looks a bit weird, but that's awesome. Someone should mod it in.

Here's how it would look in game:

Unfortunately, I've no idea how to mod a game and change the hair :P . Maybe that could be my summer project, though, to find out how! :D

If I do that though, I'll need to wait for MI2 to come out though, so that I can get all the sprites I'll need.

    he looks cute like that

He looks so much better like that!

    Loving it!
  • edited May 2010
    That really looks good.

It really goes to show just how excellent the MI2:SE model is when it makes the SoMI:SE model retroactively look bad. Looking back on the SoMI:SE model, he looks like Chris from Life on Mars after a lobotomy.

I never liked what the SMI: SE Guybrush looked like, but I felt bad, because it was a finished product and I was thrilled with everything else about the edition. Too bad they can't exchange him for this one.

The awesome thing about this model is that it really makes Guybrush not only look younger, but still resembles the models from the other four games. The model they used just didn't look right. I don't know why, but the model they used in the special edition made Guybrush look like a pervert to me. One other thing I didn't like was that Dom tried too hard to sound younger, making the acting apparent. He should of just used his usual casual tone, that would have been much better.

    Otherwise the head looks great...

Haha! I love your way of explaining the problem :D.

Well spotted though, I actually didn't notice before you pointed it out.

    THAT'S NOT TRUE!!!!!! :o

This modding thing is really confusing me, where am I supposed to find Monkey1.pak? I'm sure it's really obvious but I'm kinda lost...

Anyway, since the fans reacted so negatively to MI1's hair, I wonder if the Guybrush when he appears in MI1 form in the bone dance will look like/similar to my edit instead of using the MI1 sprite with the sticky-uppy hair.

    Oh my, it's fantastic!
I would not hesitate to install a mod to my SMI:SE with this head.
(I mean Guybrush's head, not the navigator head)

If you've bought it here from Telltale, I think it's in the same folder you installed the game to.
If you bought it on Steam, it's in "C:\Program Files\Steam\steamapps\common\the secret of monkey island special edition".
  • edited May 2010
Urr...there's an file called monkey1_retail.scumm.xml in that folder, not Monkey1.pak though, it's not there.

That's weird... Is that the Telltale version or the Steam one?
Also, can't you just search for it? Explorer has a search function.
  • edited May 2010
It's the steam one. And when I search for it in explorer, even under just Monkey1 it's not there.

Maybe I'm missing the file that causes the game to be awesome!
Lol jk, I liked what they did with the SE enough.

Oh yeah, HAPPY MONKEY ISLAND REVIVAL DAY!!!
  • edited May 2010
I agree that the head is too long, but that looks nice otherwise. You'd have to use that head on the poster in MI2: SE, too.

Without that file, the game won't work. There are two things I can think of:
    1) Your download got corrupted or something. Verifying the cache in Steam should remedy that. But since you've played it, this doesn't seem the likely problem.
    2) The file is hidden somehow. I don't know how that could happen though, because even with "Do not show hidden files and folders" on, it still shows.
How big is your "the secret of monkey island special edition" folder? Mine's 2.44 GB, so if your folder's size differs much, you are missing the file.
  • edited May 2010
Well I dunno why it's not in the one in the steam folder...

...but I looked in at a backup copy I had and I found it. It was right there where you said it was. :)

Dunno why it's not there in the proper one though, the game runs fine...
  • edited May 2010
Maybe you extracted the .pak file before, and deleted the file. The game also looks in the 'art' folder for files, so if everything it needs is in there, it would run fine, even without the file.

I like it..... even with the lego beard

Just saw on the Monkey Island facebook page that the iMuse in the trailer is not representative of iMuse in the game, and they assure us that iMuse IS in fact present in the game.
I suppose it's been updated from that leaked video a while back, which just simply crossfades from room to room. As I understand, the music for the game was not complete when the video was leaked, so iMuse could've been the reason for the music delay.

^didn't you see the new video? they address the imuse issue (although it seemed like they added the word "THERE" in the sound when he's talking about trying to find a way to do it with digital audio.)

The point was, when he's talking about the smooth transitions, the music is totally not doing the transitions in the trailer, so it seemed a bit odd.

Well i don't think it's gonna be as seamless as the midi, but i trust them to get it right.
there is something that I'd like to see\hear tho in the game. When you get to Elaine's house at the party, every time you go near someone you "hear" them (text pop up). I wonder if they're gonna play with the volume in the SE at that part (you hear less of someone the more you are away from him, etc').
