Man that would be nice if they went in this direction instead of the extremely stylized direction for the overall game, but hey that's alright.

His arms seem much too long to me, but otherwise I like it. I think I like 3 best.

Any hint as to a release date?

They'll probably announce the release date at E3, which this year will be held on June 14-17.

No, Largo's voice didn't sound right to me either.
Think about how Largo should be feeling. When he's with Guybrush, he's full of bravado and obnoxiousness.

Yet when he's dealing with LeChuck, he should sound frightened and trying to squirm his way out of all of Guybrush's slips as all of his efforts keep going sideways.

And the undercurrent of all this is a deviousness and manipulativeness. He's supposed to be a real slimy character. Also, he should sound more and more concerned as time goes on, as it's more and more likely that LeChuck is going to rip him limb-from-limb for failing so many times.

Now think about how Largo's voice sounds. It's flat and bland. You cannot read his emotion at all. Maybe he's supposed to be coming off as having a poker face, but he's a foil for Guybrush, and the hapless sidekick for the undead voodoo pirate LeChuck.

Flat just doesn't seem to fit for me.

Just did a quick mockup of this:

    You, sir, are a genius!
  • edited June 2010
Wow, this is proving to be more popular than I thought! Thanks guys!
Ok, I can open Guybrush's costume in Photoshop now, but it puts these weird stripes all over the image, is there any way to avoid this or is it natural and shall I just ignore it?

Can't promise anything about putting it into the game, at least not until MI2 is out and not until I understand the ancient art of modding. :)

Here's the concept art for the original game.

I really like this! I always transformed the pixels into images like this in my mind. I never thought of them in cartoon aspects for some reason.

It's not it being flat for me, so much as it's very Dumb Henchman No.3, it sounds like so many henchman/thug voices I've heard in kid's cartoons in the past. I know he's not really meant to be amazingly bright, and he is a thug, but like you said, I thought of him as being more weasly and manipulative as opposed to straight-up thick. I'll still hold out for the whole game, in case it does sound better as a whole, but I still can't shake that I've heard that type of voice a lot before.

I think the dumb voice is just hes scared voice when hes talking to guybrush he sounds smarter.
  • edited June 2010
I actually think that original concept art of that guy is pretty exaggerated and cartoony.

I like the new Marty. It's also funny how he ages 10 years between each concept art.

    :p I haven't looked yet but that's funny.

I like V1 the best. its the truest to the original. The smile they gave him (when he is supposed to be frowning) takes whatever grumpy old man vibe he had and throws it away :/ IMO

I never thought he was grumpy in the game just senial

I like V2 the best, I think someone should be fired for this stuff.

The original sprite looks like it's smiling to me. Maybe I'm as blind as Marty is deaf...

I thought that was stubble/beard. At least that's what it looks like to me with the sideways sprite.

    hes like the mona lisa!

I really like the final one. I think they managed to stay really true to his character even though they took some liberties with the sprite design.
  • edited June 2010
Haha looks like we all have different interpretations of what he looks like.

The UK Playstation store seems to have the game up for release on the 7th July.

Pure guesswork? That date looks awfully familiar ;)

    Of course! San Fermín!

    It all makes sense now.
  • edited June 2010
They should delay it 6 days, though, to the 13th July.
    Best. Birthday present. Ever.

I never got the grumpy old man vibe. I always got the cheerfully senile man vibe.

If you're suggesting that they base the release date on one person's birthday, that would be an illogical marketing decision from their perspective. I mean, you can always just download it on whatever day suits you best, nobody's stopping you.

Don't forget it will upset everyone whose birthday is on the 7th. (Which are most probably around the same amount of people as have their birthday on the 13th).

If they're gonna delay it to any date, the most fitting would be July 15th, the release date of the first Special Edition.
I'd rather they don't delay it though :p
  • edited June 2010
July 15th is my birthday so...

...BUT, I'm away from the 14th to the 16th so...

...any time before or after would be fine!

    :)

I don't really like any of them so far of that antique dealer
  • edited June 2010
V2 of the antique dealer is by far the best one imo. Love the sad expression and the nose.
  • edited June 2010
That nose on version 4 is perfect!
